It's not that simple. It really depends on the foot. Like with sunglasses, you have to pick the right pair of that fits your face correctly.
Toenails are the same way. Some feet look better with square nails, and some with round.

For me, the ideal pair of feet have square shaped toe nails. For example, last week I spent some time with a gal that had size 10 feet. She had great soles and toes. However, I did ask her if she always went with the round toe nail shape. Her answer, was that she sticks to a round shape because it looks the best. That said, I know better than to bite the hand that feeds. Instead, I feed her a line. I told her that I normally think square shape is the best but that her feet might be the ones to switch me over to preferring round. Of course, that last part was a white lie in the name of being flattering to her. I didn't want to seem like I was bemoaning instead of worshiping.
All the while this whole picture is complicated by the fact that nail shape is natural. That is to say, some women don't naturally have square shaped nail beds.
It just occurred to me how specific this post really is. I can imagine women going back and forth on how a guys hair should be lined up when it comes to the back of his head. If I am going to get my hair cut I would ask for the back of my head to be trimmed down to a square shape. I hope someone finds it funny that my correlation came to this.

I generally prefer square-tipped toenails that have deep, long, and broad nail beds. Nail bed shape is another thing that really fascinates me, because they come in a wide variety of sizes.
Generally speaking, I think you can break the predominant shapes down into trapezoids (the base flares outwards into wider tips, with variable depth), squares (evenly wide from tip to base and across the nail), horizontal rectangles (wider than deeper, but even from top to bottom), vertical rectangles (deeper than wider, still even from top to bottom), and triangles (wide at the base, dramatic tapering towards the tip). From there, you can even throw in how the base of the nail is shaped, from perfectly straight to dramatically bowl-shaped. From there, there's also the wide variance in how curved the nail is across the toe. Some are perfectly flat, while others curve along the toe's surface. By the way, this is all mostly talking about big toenails; toenails on the smaller toes are almost predominantly rectangular, either vertical or horizontal.

Props to, Salvy_Mic, for taking the time to speak on the spectrum of nail types. One thing is for sure, there is beauty in reconstitution; at least when it comes to women's feet.
