For Democrats it's intellectuals, usually intelligent educated young people and families. They tend to think more idealistically, as their lack of real world experience has prevented them from a jaded outlook on life.
For Republicans it's usually middle aged to senior citizens. Concerned with crime statistics going up every year (it is remarkable how easy it is to manipulate statistics to further a cause) and perceived threats whether real or unreal. Also they take a pretty big chunk of the well off/rich population who would rather not have to pay taxes on their 1.5 million dollar salary.
Since Im Canadian I don't support either stance, but it's obvious I would lean more towards a democrat. To me, there is nothing in this world more evil than hypocracy. Men who yell from the highest mountain top how righteous they are and how the rest of us are evil, meanwhile they participate in sexual misconduct, racism, corporate crime, environmental attrocities, adultury etc. etc. etc.
Whom do they think the Lord will pass a heavier judgment upon? A man who likes big booty on the side, or a man who constantly preaches the word of God to the public but practices the opposite of his teachings? A whole lot of people are in for a pretty crappy welcome at the pearly gates.

I'm relatively conservative with a libertarian bent (in other words, less is more)
I dislike regulation (Republicans always want to regulate/legislate morality, Democrats want to regulate and legislate everything else, both of which I disagree with) I don't like taxes I don't want even bigger government I do support gay rights I am pro-choice Not too big on religion, though I'd never go on the offensive against it as Democrats and the ACLU do. Not a fan of unions I am totally, completely ambivalent on the death penalty.
The description I have given above is about as close as I can come to describing my politics...the unfortunate thing is that neither Republicans nor Democrats speak to my thoughts, and I'm not hardcore libertarian enough to commit to them, either.

I'm a hardcore Democrat. However, I getting sick of the Dems as well as the Reps.
As long as we get THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER out of office I don't care if it's Dem or Rep at this point. I've about had it with corrupt $$$$$$$$$$ politics...
And Ralf Nadar is a wanna be cantidate who leads people with false hope...

I am with Wiggler 100%!!! And I also agree with Sasha above....the problem with this country is the multi-billionares that are running it! They are businessmen....thats it! They dont give a shit about politics, or whats good for the country, they are just running their businesses the way they want, and fuck everyone else! That is why they ran for office. I dont think it matters anymore if a Democrat or Republican gets into office. If they are money hungry, or if their buddies are money hungry, we will be fucked again! I have said this before......the person I want to win is the one who spends $25,000 on their campaign......not $50,000,000! Because the person who only spent $25,000 probably didnt take any bribes from corporate businesses. That person will be more likely to do good for the American people, and not just help the giant corporations. Laws HAVE to come before money....right now they dont!

Agreed! Admittedly, I haven't done all my homework on politics the way I probably should here lately, but I watched some clips of Ron Paul speaking, and the things he proposes sound impressive! I don't know if they'd be feasible in a four year term, but these ideas sound very good, and quite frankly long overdue.
The way it stands right now, personally speaking, Ron Paul would get my vote before anybody else.

Personally, I am Independent. I believe in the way our country was founded (as a Republic). We have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have more rights than any other country in the world. Lets keep it that way. One of our greatest rights is being exercised right now on this forum. Best damn country in the entire world!!

Some countries have more rights than the US...for example the Netherlands....which is probably the most liberal country in the world.

Everyone is born with the same rights, what it boils down to is how much your government oppresses you. Let's see, the US robs us at gunpoint then uses the money to kill brown people worldwide, they tell us we can't light up a joint or have sexually explicit material on our fetish websites.
I can think of only one candidate who would fix each one of those gripes and then some.

Republican senators are for FUCKING too, just seemingly only with their own sex... while condemning homosexuality too.... confusing..... anyway, i am considered by republicans to be way liberal but i dont support any specific party, i vote for the person but i can tell you i wont be voting republican for quite some time... where the Christian Right hangs around is where i want control of our country the furthest from

I can't affiliate with either side myself. The closer you get to one extreme, the closer you simultaneously end up to the other. It's not a political spectrum so much as it is a political ring. The Michael Moores and Anne Coulters of this world need to just shut the fuck up, they have absolutely no sense of anything and talk out of their asses.
As of right now, I'm a registered voter who is not affiliated with any political party. I suppose if anything, I lean left on most things, but I strongly support the military and the need for this country to defend itself. This whole quagmire in Iraq is not defending ourselves, and we've put ourselves in one fucked up situation. Staying there doesn't do anything, and pulling out means all our guys died in vain without achieving anything long-term. It's a no-win situation at the current moment, because our jackass of a president thought it was okay to double-task and to do each task half-assed.
I don't care who becomes the next president, as long as they're not another member of the Bush Mob or the extremely religious right.
