I have always believed that too, but have heard conflicting views on that weeks prior....my computer wouldn't get to my log-in screen when i would go on, it wouldnt read the hard drive....after the warning to close Porn Hub having spyware I immediately back tracked from that site and now I think I have a sense of what went wrong with it....but at least I'm stoked with the new Macbook pro its got a built-in cam and lots of other goodies!

Shelley you are right....I spoke to a gentlemen today that fixes Macs and there still aren't really viruses out there just yet....looks like my hard drive crashed and beyond repair.

I've been using MACs since the early days - going back to the MAC II with floppies, for example (circa 1977) ... along with unix, linux, windows, etc.).

Yes, you can get viruses, trojans and malware, and I've been inflicted a few times along the way (with various Apples). The reason you don't see as many virus problems is not anything inherently better or different in the OS (or the computer itself).

The simple fact is, MACs amount to less than 8% of all home computers, and therefore the payoff is insignificant to the script kiddies, hackers and others a..holes who write the malware. What they want to do, is deliver the biggest, most harmful payload, and for that payload to spread in the widest path possible.

Target MACs, and your script or trojan won't travel very far ... the maximum impact it can have will affect less than 8% of the home PC populous, something terribly unsatisfying to the malware writers.

If Free BSD held over 90% of the home pc market, that's what they would write toward - or linux, unix, etc. In your case - you are describing a malware attack that you suspect was delivered by a website, or a visit there. That makes sense, there is a lot of that going on. That type of malware is less OS-centric, and delivers pretty equal numbers across all operating systems.

In web surfing, and PC protection, this is one arena where it pays to be paranoid. In addition to staunch antivirus, trojan, spam and rootkit protection, regardless of your operating system ... it pays to keep a wary eye toward sites that are either known or suspected to deliver malware.

Respectfully,

Ben
