I got some very bad news at work, today.
Our company is very blue collar, with a very lax dress code. Not any longer. A new vice president has come in, and I guess he wants to throw has weight around, a bit. So he's initiated some new dress guidelines. Not coat and tie, fortunately, but a little more formal than it used to be.
The biggest change: No flip flops! What's more, there's some discussion about whether sandals are permissable, at all! [Mad] This means I will have to face a summer where the girls will have to keep their feet enclosed! [Cry]
Well, maybe there's a blessing. Perhaps they will be more likely to slip their shoes off, at their desks.

you have to admit it is much more professional to not dress like you are going to the beach

plus it is distracting, even to non foot guys

Yeah, that sucks. But you got to look on the bright side. You still might be able to see them slip out of their shoes when their feet hurt!

Really, really stinks man. I feel your pain. It's one thing not to ever have it (lax dress code) but to have it then have it taken away really sucks.

My office doesn't allow flips but does allow sandals and many girls take adavantage of that. I've seen some really strappy dress sandals at work.

The non-profit my wife works for is much stricter. Sandals must be very dressy and not too strappy. Her new executive director came close a while back (as a power play) to mandating hose with sandals. (something you hose lovers would kill for I know, but I'm into bare). Interestingly, there is one gal at my office who ALWAYS wears hose every day.

One thing I have been VERY appreciative of is the lax dress codes in many retail stores, (compared to when I was growing up) especially those that serve younger buyers (Pac Sun, Abercrombie, etc) but also even stores like Bath & Body Works who allow their employees to wear flip-flops and sandals.

You're in for a lot of dangling and, if you like it, a fair chance to catch a nice whiff of lovely foot scent.

man, that really sucks and i think its kinda stupid. i mean honestly.. its distracting?!! how the f*** is it distracting?? a woman with some full beautiful lips is distracting too so maybe we should require them to wear burkas. total horsecockie. i never understood that. it's not like a belly shirt or a bikini. seriously.

lucky we dont have that kind of rules here.. bad news is that we have 2 women working for us and both are over 60YO.. and even worse, one is my mother. BLECH!

I've always wondered what a boss has found out or been deprived of to stop sandals at work!!! What about hand fetishes??? Gloves at work all day??? It's almost like they're childishly saying "If I cant see/have pretty feet then you can't either, na-na-na-na-na!!!" But on another note, it may be the complete opposite because they know nice pedicured feet being shown all day at work will REALLY affect production... Either way the end results stink (pun intended)!!!

Nothing wrong with a nice pair of sandals in the workplace. If I employed women I would bring in a uniform of a crisp tight white blouse, navy tight fitting trousers and white strappy sandals. Perfection!

as a foot guy are you honestly saying you wouldn't be a little more distracted than if she was wearing regular shoes?

the fact that you guys complain about it is more than enough proof it would be a distraction

it's all about being professional, show up to a job interview in flip flops and let me know if you get the job [Wink]

well at least the feet will be stinkier after work and we all know what that means for those footsniffers out there who crave that really stinky scent, hee Hee

i prefer a nice worn sandal scent but enclosed shoes will definitely make for more footstink after being enclosed all day

Thanks for all your thoughts. Yeah, maybe it will just encourage women to slip their shoes off at their desks, more often.

would i be distracted.. no more so than a woman who has a pretty face, but are we going to ban that? do you really have little control?? and do you really think that rule is in effect for foot fetish guys?? i would say 90% of non-FF ppl dont even think about the fact that anyone is paying attention to their feet.

i have an old school view for a guy as young as me. i like a work place that has more a formal attire to it. be that as it may, mandating in a blue-collar area what to wear is not as productive as this exec thinks it's going to be!

as much as i'm a hose fan, some sandals should never be worn with hose (oops.. did I say that out loud?).. though others work just fine with me.

bottom line, in this economy, i've learned that many top brass will do whatever it takes to justify their position... even (at my job) mandating what color and how many layers of polish a woman can wear on her nails!! yes.. that is true.. at my job. they now check and make sure you comply wiht the new code. one coat clear polish or bare naisl period! or you're sent home!!!!!!!! the guys almost opted to do their nails in color to support the protest the women have put up!

RPM

p.s. just one little tidbit. at my job, for safety reasons, fake nails are hazardous. but polish is not. the crackdown makes no sense! (and though i'm not a fan of flipflops... a relaxed office setting shouldn't ban flipflops.... it's not that white-collar a job.. as you put it)

like i said flip flops appear unprofessional in the workplace, how is that even debateable? a workplace doesn't allow sleveless tshirts either, why? because you don't dress like you are going to the beach when you work

people notice feet in the workplace, they don't have to a be foot person

read this article, it's mostly about the northwestern girls lacrosse team wearing flip flops to the white house but it is similar to our discussion

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05219/548870-158.stm

it has nothing to do with foot fetish guys and comparing a face or hands to feet is just a desperate attempt to complain about the rules
