Interesting. Luckily my wife doesn't like to walk outside barefoot. My mom always told me and my sister to always have on shoes when going outside. I remember my sister getting yelled at just from stepping barefoot on the porch. My mom worked in a hospital for almost 20 years.

It's unfortunate that there is so much "garbage" floating about in our waters and parks, etc. But c'mon - there is nothing like feeling cool green grass tickling the soles and rising up in between your toes! It's almost sinful it feels so good.

Yeah you have to be careful where and when you walk outside barefoot. Plus i am not into all the dirty soles and toes look anyway. You have to take care of the little peds so they last a long time.

I doubt this article will have much of an impact. I spent all afternoon in Central Park's Sheep's Meadow yesterday(Monday) and there were literally thousands of people going barefoot. New Yorkers are still going to go barefoot in the park. Thank goodness for that!

Fortunately there is little danger in going barefoot around my home and I do encourage my female guests to dispense with their shoes. My grass is always dry and brittle and I have walkways to the important destinations such as the dock. The only threat there is duck/goose shit; I've been successful in by efforts to make those feel unwelcome.
There is some practical advice in the article which I'm sure has been passed down through 50+ generations: KEEP YOUR FEET DRY!
Additionally, it is clear that the reporter has no background on the subject of the article, passing on an old wive's tale about tetanus and rusty nails. Tetanus bacteria reside in the soil and can cling to your skin. Should you cut yourself where the bacteria are located, you are potentially in a heap of trouble. OK, so keep 'em clean, too.
If you can see past the alarmist slant of the article, it is interesting and informative...just no cause for alarm.

Some of my models are some of the most hardcore barefooters and have been walking barefoot for years...none of them has ever had tetanus, athlete`s foot, worms or warts....and my city is probably just as dirty as NYC. Plus, they even walk barefoot on the streets and not a park. There`s seriously no risk of walking barefoot in grass, apart from maybe stepping on a bee. Some journalists are just full of crap...all they can write are scare-stories!

i think its sad if people r too scared to go barefoot, im a barefoot lover and i always walk barefoot, where eva i can get away with it, i even drive barefoot sometimes, so it wont b scarin me to put my shoes bak on no chance x

I went to Bryant Park in NYC yesterday and, as usual, there were scores of barefeet on the lawn. Granted a lot of women had their feet propped up on seats, but their were also plently lying in the grass as well. At one point, I did overhear a young lady telling her boyfriend she wanted to take her shoes off, but was afraid too now. But, she seemed like the only one.
