Fantasy, especially if not bounded by reality (in other words, you've never experienced it) can be extremely heady. Unfortunately I've found that the fantasy can often surpass the reality.
I'll often get quite horny and aroused planning sexual activites to do with my wife, but often the reality just doesn't happen the way I fantasized about it. In some case I fantasize about things she'd never do- that can be extremely arousing.

This is an interesting question that really has me thinking. I'm of the type that likes to keep my fantasies bounded by reality. I don't really have anything that turns me on in my head but wouldn't do it for me in real life. However there are some fantasies that I have that absolutely must involve a certain person if they were to happen IRL though they can never realistically happen. It's more than a fantasy about a certain person mind you. I think it may be a comfort thing.

In my mind I imagine the perfect scenario, then I look at people engaged in the realities of being a parent and/or spouse and I'm turned off completely.
I'd rather spend my time, money and energy elsewhere than on a marriage. I certainly don't want the responsibility of being a parent.

Hmm, I hadnt thought of the 'wife/girlfriend not being into it' angle--thats a commmon reason a fantasy wouldn't live up to expectations.
