That was pretty much the original premise to Dr. Scholl's exercise sandals. The shape of the foot bed made the toes grip with each step, exercising the foot and leg.

Here's what the product description says in part: "The contoured wooden outsole has a specially designed raised toe grip that encourages calf and leg muscles to exercise just by walking. So, the more you wear them, the better your legs will look."

PS - still one of my favorites - I guess it's from so many good memories of seeing hot feet in them during my "formative years."
