I can't recall if I read it or saw it in an old movie (likely an old b/w swashbuckler) but the answer applies to most opportunities that one wishes to create:
" 'Tis time and tide, me boy, time and tide..."
I used to get here more often (times and tides have changed for me, too) and would love to explain this in a bit more detail but, I think, with some consideration, you'll get the notion.

On topic, I'd say it's either patience, straight out asking, or try to do activities that bare feet are common with. Offer to do her nails, go swimming, etc.
