I will put away all the statistics I ususally bring with me to my arguments on baseball topics and just have a fun, non-stat conversation about another sports theme. In this case, NFL cheerleaders.

----

You had a great seat for that big game your favorite team was playing.

It was a fantastic game, the game that put your favorite team in the playoffs, or kept in contention, or kept them from porlonging a losing streak, or something along those lines.

In the fourth quarter, your team is mounting its imporbable comback.

In the sidelines, right in front of you, your team's cheerleaders were jumping and dancing and pumping thier arms.

"Let's go, team!" they were shouting. "Let's go!"

And for one instant, it seemed you made eye contact with one of the cheerleaders. The blond one.

She looked right at you and shouted, "Let's go, team!"

She smiled and shook her pom-poms before turning away.

---

Let me tell you something about that cheerleader:

She's probably a nice person. And she's NOT interested in dating you.

That moment you believed you shared with her? It's her job, you idiot. She has hundreds of moments like that during every game. She smiles, shouts, and looks into the stands, and occasionally, often accidentally, she makes eye contact with a generic male figure in the stands who is wearing the same colors as the team for which she cheers. When she happens to make eye contact, she smiles because that's her job. It says it right there on the job discription. "Essential functions of job: leap, cheer, smile."

That moment you'll remember for the rest of your life? She was forgetting it as it was happening.

- Don't tell your friends that you "shared a moment" with that cheerleader.

- Don't tell your friends that you are going to track her down to see if she wants to date you.

- Don't spend your time at work fantasizing about the date you're going to have with that cheerleader, or about how she's going to become your girlfriend and come to the office christmas party.

- Don't spend your time at work trying to imagine how she looks in her bra and panties, or naked.

- Don't go to your favorite team's website to see if you can find her name.

- Don't send her flowers in care of your favorite team, particularly a note referring to "the moment you shared."

- Don't send her a note asking her to meet you somewhere for a drink.

- Don't send her your photograph to jog her memory about "the moment you shared."

Just leave her alone, and get on with your life.

There are reasons courts issue restraining orders.
