I know it's still two weeks away, but I thought I would start a thread predicting the NBA finishes for 2007-2008. I'll go division by division, and put a + sign next to the teams I think are going to make the playoffs.

Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division

1. Nets +

2. Celtics+

3. Raptors+

4. Knicks

5. 76ers

Southeast Division

1. Heat+

2. Wizards+

3. Magic

4. Hawks

5. Bobcats.

Central Division

1. Pistons+

2. Bulls+

3. Cavs+

4. Bucks

5. Pacers

Western Conference

Southwest Division

1. Mavericks+

2. Spurs+

3. Rockets+

4. Hornets

5. Grizzlies.

Northwest Division

1. Jazz+

2. Nuggets+

3. Trail Blazers

4. Sonics.

5. T Wolves

Pacific Division.

1. Suns+

2. Lakers+

3. Warriors+

4. Clippers

5. Supersonics.

NBA Western Conference Champ-Suns

NBA Eastern Conference Champ-Pistons.

NBA Champ-Suns.

Yes, I realize that the Spurs have won three titles in the last five years, and four titles since 1999, but I just think it is going to be Phoenix's time to shine. They have an explosive offense, and they should win the Pacific Division easily, and challenge for the number one seed in the Western Conference in the playoffs. The Spurs and Mavericks will give them a run, but I believe it is the Suns time.

I hope to hear others thoughts on the NBA season predictions. Thanks.

Mitch

I'd like to think that my Lakers will get their shit together, play good, solid D, and hustle on every play to give Kobe that support he's needed ever since we traded Shaq, but as a realist, I don't see it happening. We have not made any significant moves, asides from bringing back the dependable Derek Fisher to play point guard and help groom Jordan Farmar for the future. Kobe will be Kobe, of course, but unless guys like Walton, Bynum, Farmar, Radmanovic, and Brown really step up and contribute, I can't see anything but another 45-win season and drawing either Phoenix, San Antonio, or Dallas in the first round, as usual. I hope I'm wrong though, less talented teams (well, teams that don't have an all-universe guy like Kobe) have been able to have great seasons and make deep postseason runs.

Anyway, as I can't reasonably root for any team in the Pacific Division that aren't the Lakers, and I've never liked the Spurs that much, I'm picking Dallas and Boston to make the Finals, with Nowitszki finally picking up his first ring.

Lebron holds court once again.

But first he needs a beat down for wearing that Yankees cap. [Wink]

Co-sign about the Yankees hat Adam. That's not the worst part of it though. Considering he grew up in the 90s, like myself, he said his favorite teams, despite growing up in Ohio his whole life, were the Yankees, the Cowboys, and the Bulls. That just reeks of front-runnerism, one of the worst offenses for a sports fan to be, especially when you live in a place that already has teams.

I can accept Yankees fans from places like Alaska, North Dakota, or Virginia. If you come from a place that has a baseball team, you have no business being a damn Yankee fan!

Salvy, I used to live in the NY metro area until 1999, a city with two baseball teams, and, since 1983, I have been a Braves fan, even from 1985 to 1990 when the Braves sucked. Now I live about 90 mins from Philly, and I still go to Citizens once a year to see my Braves.
As for the Yankees, it will be interesting to see how they do next year with Torre gone. I have a feeling his departure is going to make a huge impact.

Was your dad a Braves fan or something? I ain't saying its wrong or anything, but it must have been hard growing up a Braves fan during the 80s. About the only good guys they had on that team were Dale Murphy and Phil Niekro, and Niekro would have been close to retirement. The Mets and Yankees fans must have been really insufferable, what with the Mets being good then and the Yankees sucking after the Reggie-Munson-Guidry glory years.

I think with Torre gone, a lot of the team is gonna leave too. Posada and Rivera both said they might leave if Torre doesn't stay, I seriously doubt A-Rod is gonna stick around for another season, and you have to believe that the old and/or expensive guys like Clemens, Giambi, Matsui, Abreu, and Mussina will either leave or retire. With all that high-salaried talent gone, I may not hate them so much as I used to.

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread there Mitch.

Sorry salvy, didnt come back to this thread until now.
No, my father is actually a lifelong Yankees fan. I got into the Braves solely due to the cable. I started watching them, and they were decent at that time, and then, my interest in them just grew.
I agree with you that a lot of the Yankees will leave, especially now with Arod having opted out, and with Torre gone. It will be very interesting to see what kind of team the Yankees have in 2008.

I don't follow basketball as much as I follow football, but I do like the Nuggets. I'm a big Iverson fan. I'm hoping Denver will go to and win the championship.

I regret not taking part earlier in the season but now it's playoff time (I originally predicted a Laker-Celtic showdown as many other surely did) but let's go PISTONS!

ABSOLUTELY! Tonight proved that Boston isn't the only powerhouse left. And just think. This weekend in Detroit we have the Red Wings playing, the Pistons playing and the Electronic Music Fest happening. BIG BIG weekend here in the city. By the way, Wings in 5.

It's like Phil Jackson, Mitch Kupchack, and the bench in general granted my every wish. Seriously, I could not be any happier with the team as it is.

Naturally, I want the title (and preferably over the Celtics), but man, I am already so excited for next year. Just check out our potential roster here:

C Andrew Bynum
F Pau Gasol
F Lamar Odom
PG Derek Fisher
SG Kobe "GOD" Bryant

Bench:
Sasha Vujacic, Ronny Turiaf, Luke Walton, Jordan Farmar, Vladimir Radmonovic, Trevor Ariza, and whomever.

Do you realize that's 7 YOUNG guys capable of coming off the bench and able to make a contribution? 7!! And best of all....no more Kwame Brown! The only other possible thing I could ask for as a bench addition would be another serviceable big. Might have to settle for Mihm or Mbenga.

I love my Lakers. And I've loved them since the Sedale Threatt/Elden Campbell/Cedric Ceballos years, when our best guy was an old James Worthy. So no one dare call me a bandwagon fan...

Denver was eliminated in the first round by LA so my hopes are gone. I started cheering for Boston, but seeing as they lost a home game, its not looking to good for them.
