John Madden's cruiser is heading to another network in 2006.

NBC announced on Wednesday that Madden will serve as a game analyst when the network begins televising its Sunday night NFL package in 2006.

"In my opinion, John Madden is the best analyst of any kind in sports television history," NBC chairman Dick Ebersol said. "John is much more than a football legend, he's an American icon."

Madden spent the last three years at ABC as an analyst on Monday Night Football with Al Michaels. Madden will continue to serve in that role at ABC in 2005. But Monday Night Football is moving from ABC to ESPN, starting with the 2006 season.

"When I went to ABC I thought I would end my career there, but when the NFL did the new television deal I looked at NBC and I thought this Sunday night package really fit me well," Madden said.

Desperate to get back into business with the NFL, NBC signed a six-year deal worth $600 million to take the Sunday night package, previously on ESPN. NBC also will get the Super Bowl in 2009 and 2012 and Pro Bowls in the same year as part of the agreement.
