Texas people love their guns
If you disarm America, you open up defeat.

guns don't kill, people do!

I usually don't post on these kind of threads.
It opens a big can of worms.----but--

For instance, 2 weeks ago we had a prowler in our backyard, about 3am in the morning, my wife letting our dog out about ran into him.

After all the screaming yelling, i grab my 380 and mace, ran out to a guy who was in just as much fear as we were.

Shaking, claiming he was jeremy. Got the wrong house. drunk, drugs, whatever, I let him go.

I dont think he will make that mistake again, if it was not a mistake he won't come back.

The thing is, we had that protection, or who knows what. We tend to ignore the bad things in our world unless it happens to us,or someone close. It goes on everyday folks.

Always be ready, Carry protection, mace, stun guns whatever, don't be a victum.

I think the kind of legislation we have right now is okay. Waiting periods and all that. I don't think it's anybody's place though to be able to tell another person how they can defend themselves. If a guy wants an AK-47, he should be allowed to buy an AK-47. If somebody else wants a pellet gun, that's fine too.

Amen! And from my personal observations, to me it seems like the people who are in the most favor of gun control are the upper crust types who deal with little to no crime in their neighborhoods to begin with. They're the ones with an abundance of cops and private security services patroling their streets, they face little to zero danger, so this naturally skews their perpective on the rest of society.

I agree with you Lou. The laws we have now are fine, but they should leave it as it is. Don't take away our right to own assualt rifles & other high-powered rifles. (I own two of 'em myself) BTW, I've heard that John F Kerry supports a ban on these type of weapons, although I could be wrong. The way I feel is that guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Exactly. If the government were to suddenly start removing anything that could be used to kill people, they should confiscate steak knives, automobiles, baseball bats, etc. The way I see it, if some goofy basturd wants to off somebody, he'd find a means regardless of what guns are avialable or not.

Just last Friday I was eatting lunch with a few of the therapists and things at my workplace, and the head honcho doctor mentioned how he's in favor of gun control. He said he was cool with your "standard" types of guns (hunting rifles, pistols, etc), but assault rifles, armor piercing bullets, etc should get taken out of the reach of the average Americans. I asked him, since he'd worked in an emergency room before, what calibur of bullets did he see gun shot victims coming to the hospital over. I told him that more often than not, it seems people are being shot by things like 9mm's, hunting rifles, etc, not the assault rifles, machine guns, or with armor piercing bullets that seem to be the target of the gun control lobby. He shrugged and said he really didn't know, and that he didn't have an answer for me. He's a cool guy, but I think this is an area he hadn't really thought out an answer for.

But again, backing up my observation I'd talked about earlier, I noticed that among the therapists and doctors present at the luncheon (and me, the lowly security guard), the higher paid that the people were in the room, the more pro-gun control their answers to the discussion were. One doctor, a lady, actually asked why there were such a thing as guns. [Roll Eyes] [Laugh] She's a sweet person (she gave me a fifty dollar bill for Christmas last year) and friendly as can be, but I had to bite my lip from laughing at the naivety this highly educated doctor displayed, but again, I couldn't help but wonder if her living situation, i.e. rich neighborhood, may have swayed her train of thought.

Sir Mixalot had a song about this back in the late 80's, and I'll never forget a couple of lines out of it:

Hypothetical situation
Gun Control starts sweeping the nation
You'd have a bunch of unarmed innocent victims
Getting fucked by the system

Still, too many people are killed by guns. I think people who don't abuse guns should have the right to own them. I just think guns should be used carefully, and people should have a close watch on them, or else 10000 will still be killed a year by guns.

I agree with you, and that's where I have a problem with the gun control crowd. They're so hung up on regulating what responsible citizens should be allowed to do or not allowed to do, that they seem totally negligent in acknowledging the criminals who get these guns illegally. A law abiding citizen will stop when they're told to, but a criminal has no scrupples, so if gun control laws get passed, the law-abiding citizens get their hands tied while the criminals are in hog heaven getting their hands on weapons. The result? The law-abiding citizens are left with nothing to defend themselves against these gun-totting criminals. Sad really...

10,000 people a year is no number to sneeze at. It's traggic and sad without a doubt, but the fact remains that more people are killed in car crashes every year than by guns. In fact, more than three times that amount are killed in automobile accidents every year. I think if the government is going to start regulating anything, it should be who it is who get's behind the wheel of a car, not some guy who like to go shooting on a range, or likes to have protection for himself and his family. [Cool]

In Australia, there is a total ban on semi-automatic and automatic weapons (which sucks bigtime)!!! In 1997, a buyback scheme was introduced for all people to hand in their rifles. The honest people did...the criminals didn't. The system is fucking crap. This happened just because a lunatic named Martin Bryant went psycho in April 1996 and killed 30 people in Port Arthur, Tasmania. Martin Bryant is now rotting in a maximum security prison where he can hopefully die there. So our dickwad Prime Minister Johnny Howard introduced this scheme and tighter legislation which doesn't solve a fucking thing. Now there is a tighter legislation introduced against handguns in 2003, just because some fuckwit lunatic shot up several people with a handgun at a university in Melbourne (thank god I didn't go there).

Personally, I think people have the right to defend themselves against criminals. If these arseholes start breaking into our house or attack us on the street, we have the right to kill the motherfucker! Fight fire with fire. Just don't use too much excessive force so you can justify the shooting in the court.

A bloke I know says that some people deserve to die. That's true some people deserve it, but what if he flips out one day and kills a person who did something very insignificant. He is a top bloke and I highly respect him, but I do question his moral judgement.

I have more to add to this topic, but my brain is exhausted.

Cheers for now. [Cheers]

I'm looking forward to reading more Brother Mulholland. Good post! [Thumbs Up]

One of my all-time favorite movies is Romper Stomper (dig my avatar), I've got it on DVD and seen it about 30 times or so. It was made in Australia, and I've seen it a couple of times with the director commentary turned on. Geoffrey Wright, the writer and director of the movie mentioned the gun-control laws in Australia in explaining the fights between the gangs. He only grazed over it, but essentially said that gangs in Australia tend to fall back on hand-held weapons because attaining fire-arms was next to impossible. I've wondered since then how and why such laws got passed down there in the Great Outback, and your post helped clear a lot of that up. Thank you sir! [Cool]

As for gun control? I carry one with me all the time, so it's controlled [Evil Grin]

Actually, I have been required by my profession to carry one for most of my adult life. Stacey sometimes ask's me why I have to carry it when I am not working?

I always tell her that if we go to McDonald's, I am going to be prepared if someone tries to order up a "McMassacre" ---
