Nice selection of clips you have there! [Thumbs Up]

But if I have to choose only one of those cool clips as my favorite, it'd be Voltron III, the Lions, because that brings back some good memories to see it again. [Smile]

Now I have a question: Why no live action robot transformation sequences? Bro, as much as you seem to like robots, I'm sure you've checked out a lot of those Toei produced sentai series (you know, those great shows that got butchered into what we call Power Rangers here in the West).

Seeing this topic made me run a quick search for some of those transformation sequences, and I found two that really brought back some good times.

This first one is a pretty complete transformation sequence of the Dinosaur Megazord from the first series of Power Rangers.
Dinosaur Megazord

The original Japanese story (Jyu Rangers, or roughly trnaslated to Beast Rangers) featured five members from the original dinosaur tribes, humans that co-existed with dinosaurs, kept in a cryogenic sleep until Bandora (Rita Repulsa) attacked the Earth once again.

This next one is a pretty cool transformation sequence from Dinosaur Megazord, to Dragon Megazord, and then finally into Titanosaurus Ultra Megazord.
Dig this cool as hell geeky stuff!

What you see in the clip is the final result of the American editting, with original Goldar footage spliced in. In the original, which was a stand alone original short movie which went straight to video in Japan, Bandora's son attacked the Rangers in the giant white robot they're fighting. Of course it's never revealed that Rita ever had a son in the Westernized Power Rangers, but in this fight Bandora's son is killed, sending her into insanity. The series ended eventually, with Scorpina having a baby, with Goldar as the father, and they present their child to Bandora. This act sort of gave the old lady some peace as she was once again sealed away on Planet Doom (in Power Rangers, they'd have you believe her base of operations was on the moon), and the series ended on a rather sympathetic note for Bandora.

Sorry for these nerdy ramblings, but it's been a long time since I got to talk about some of this stuff. But keeping in step with the topic, this transformation sequence is probably my favorite, because it was Power Rangers that lead me into checking out the original Jyu Rangers, and then Dai Rangers, Kaku Rangers, O.H. Rangers, etc... Good stuff! [Thumbs Up]

Sweet as hell! Check this out!
Zyu Ranger episode one subtitled 1/2
Zyu Ranger episode one subtitled 2/2

(okay, so it's Zyu Rangers and not Ju Rangers, I never claimed my understanding of Japanese was any good [Wink] )

Why read my geek-a-nerd ramblings in the previous post when you can watch this superb stuff for yourself? I can remember making connections and going to all kinds of con's and buying bootleg tapes of this stuff, with no subtitles. Keep looking on youtube for more of this sweet stuff...this is cool!

I gotta wonder why some distribution house hasn't wised up and subtitled the original Japanese sentai series? Folks that grew up watching Power Rangers could appreciate it...nerds like me who still dig on this stuff would love it...seems like money waiting to get made! [Thumbs Up]

Lou, I kinda figured that the Power Rangers were Japanese related, it just had that atmosphere about it. And the Megazord transformation will always be in my head. lol

Yeah man, do yourself a favor and be sure to check out some of the original Japanese episodes if you can. Make no mistake, it's a kid's show in Japan too, but it's got enough redeeming qualities for us big kids to enjoy as well. For instance, there was an episode of O.H. Rangers where the sexy yellow ranger ran through an entire episode in nothing but a swimsuit, and stripped down even further at the end! Think that made the cut in the Americanization we knew as Power Rangers Zeo? No chance in hell! [Big Grin]

Another transformation sequence that I always thought was cool, even though it was kinda' flawed in the execution was in the show Mighty Orbots. This sweet show only lasted one season, and was Japanese made for American television, but the art and animation was WAY ahead of it's time! Check this out:

Thanks for the new clips you've added too! [Thumbs Up]

Very nice looking art in those new clips! Seems like a pretty interesting series those were taken from. [Thumbs Up]

Glad you enjoyed the Orbots clip. I loved that show so much...it's a damn shame that it only went one season and fell through (and I understand that it was because of a lawsuit filed by Tonka of all people, claiming the Orbots were Go-Bot rip-offs! puh-lease). I wish it'd hit DVD, I'd buy it up in a minute!

And since we're talking early 80's retro here, let's go back even further than that to Star Vengers, otherwise known as Getter Robo G. These transformation sequences are ridiculously impossible to believe by today's standards, but they sure were pretty back in the day. I never got to see this series in it's entirety, but I did see the edited together movie that airred on Showtime waaaayyy back when my parents first got cable. I was about 8 or 9 years old when I got introduced to this cool stuff:
Star Dragon
Star Arrow
&
Star Poseiden
