I am so sick of this crap. Blacks can say anything about whites that they wish, but if a white person says ANYTHING, even repeating things that blacks say, they are chastised for it and told "You're not allowed to say that because you are white." That's total B.S.! I am so tired of these people picketing and attemtoting to sue over this crap!

ENough is is! If we cannot repeat commeon terms of another culture because of our skin tone... that's racist!

If WE can't say it... YO can't say it either. HOw's that? How about NOBODY says those things? Maybe then things will be equal.

Hold everyone to the same standard, not just whites.

Don't be hypocritical!

I may joke about my family by calling my wife a silly hoe but what do you think would happen if a stranger were to call her the same name? You should expect anger. I'm not saying every race is its own family and have the right to call each other anything they want but each race does share some type of bond because of the problems they have faced due to their skin color. A person outside of a race cannot use these degrading terms and not expect anger.

BTW I'd like to know what racial group are you saying that can speak down towards white without any punishment. Rappers? some rap groups cannot get mainstream play because of their lyrics. Black comedians? comedians like Paul Mooney(?) are not able to get on many mainstream programs because of their content. The big comedians and rappers that get away with it? Their audiences are not only black and they are selling to all groups of races making millions.

I think you're fighting an uphill battle there ash. This is years of evolution from the slavery days and I think it'll take years to evolve again. Hard to fight evolution, just "live and let live" [Smile]

Basically, people need to stop being such "pussies." I am so sick of the whole, "Oh, you offended me" crap.

Why can't people accept that everybody has their own opinions.

I don't care if rappers or black comedians make jokes about white, just as long as they don't bitch and complain when someone makes fun of them.

It has to be a two-way street.

Our society is so screwed up now. People are looking to sue others for miniscule comments made in jest.

Hell, even if the comments are made in malice, what ever happened to personal opinions? Freedom of speech?

People need to stop being hypocritical and complaining. If people don't want things being said, then don't want certain things said, they shouldn't promote the use of them.

If every person was honest and open about their opinions and every person had the understanding that opinions are just that, opinions, then maybe this world would be a better place.

I just believe that some opinions should not be allowed in certain forums. Honestly, I didn't view this Imus comment as racist but just poor sexist taste. (That damn Al Sharpton always feels the need to represent for blacks making it a black/white issue) Can any media personality who reaches so many listeners compare a female to an unkept street walker w/o any backlash? I hope not to see Al Roker tell West Virginians 'You toothless skanks better hold on to your mobile homes because there's a twister comin'.

I agree with what you said about rappers and black comedians but keep in mind that they are not 'the black community'. These are just entertainers who make money by saying bullshit to shock people. If they dish the bullshit out then they should not be offended.

I don't go to work and make insults about people I barely know. You want my candid opion you can find it on the net, in my home, at any bar or among my friends. Anyone who wants to join in are always welcome to join my crazy mix of Russian, Pakistani, black and white friends.

And Don Imus got paid for quite a number of years, first on WNBC and then on WFAN, for doing the exact same thing you say black comedians and rappers have done: being an "entertainer who makes money by saying bullshit to shock people".

I think to say that rappers are not "the black community" really doesn't hold any water. Exactly what community are they then? I realize you're talking in general terms but what cross section of the population are they representing then?

Let's face facts. Before Don Imus made his comment on the radio, we have not seen any action or protests by any black people at all - including the two "flagships for racial equality" in the black community, Jessie Jackson & Al Sharpton - for finding the lyrics and/or certain words used by rappers as offensive or degrading. This includes the "n-word" (either ending in an "a" or "er"), and the words "ho" and "bitch" referring to females. Rappers tout it as "freedom of expression" and justify it because of their hard life out on the streets and, as such, it was not only considered part of the culture, but embraced by a certain percentage of black people. You can't tell me that only white people are buying CDs by these rappers using that kind of language! Rappers made it en vogue to use these words in the first place and it really didn't make a difference that certain "hardcore rappers" couldn't, or can't, get any airplay because it still got out there to the public. One doesn't have to look any farther than Ice-T as a typical example of this 15 or so years ago after his "Original Gangsta" CD came out. Where was the outcry from Mr. Jackson and Mr. Sharpton then over Ice-T's lyrics, which are about as "hardcore" as they come???

I agree with ash. If it's so damn wrong for Imus to say what he said, then it sure as hell should be wrong for rappers to use the term in their raps as well and they should be held just as accountable as Imus. As a result, they should lose their recording contracts with the record labels they're signed to. After all, Imus lost his job for saying the same thing some of these rappers say, and say repeatedly, by the way, in their raps. Imus and rappers, after all, are both in the entertainment field and both "make their money saying shit to shock people". And, speaking of money, Imus initially got a 2 week suspension for saying what he did and it wasn't until sponsors began pulling ads off during Imus' air time that the decision was made to let him go. Bottom line, it wasn't until broadcast corporations began losing money that pulling the plug on Imus' morning show became a viable option.... Kind of makes me wonder if a record company will pull a rapper off their label and drop their contract when their last "ho"-ridden diatribe that was recorded and made available on CD sold a million or 2 million copies, but I digress.

It wasn't until this comment made by Imus that Jackson & Sharpton, after raising such a huge stink about it, have been called to the carpet about black rappers using the word "ho" in their raps. So, as a result, let's be fair and make everyone accountable for what they're doing, no matter what their race is. It's not a two way street and what's good for Don Imus should be good for rappers using the same word, rather than making it a double standard and saying, "Oh, well, they're rappers talking about their lifestyle, so it's ok for them to use that word." Please!!!! Let's see if Jackson & Sharpton really follow through on their pledge to pressure record companies, who have signed rappers using this kind of language, into releasing these rappers from their recording contracts.

Short and sweet-

If you believe rappers represent what most blacks say and how they think........well, we have a long way to go before understanding each other.

They need to get rid of ALL shock jocks, because they all are mental cases deep rooted, and since the public loves them so much..so spreads their hate.Weather it be Jesse jackson, sharpton, bin laden {in his own way} or Imus..a mass audience is paying attention and it gets ingrained in people's brains as something that they should "tolerate"..yet it's wrong.

Well, either they should censor EVERYONE and we can ALL surrender freedom of speech, or people can grow thicker skin and understand that opinions ARE like assholes, everybody has one, unless they are some deformed freaks of nature... (OOPS, I probably offended the minority of people without assholes! I might get sued! In which case... I whole-heartedly appologize and I will attend counseling to address my insensitivity toward "scphincterly-challenged" people.)

It's not a matter of censoring EVERYONE..just use the common sense God gave you and know when to shut your mouth..you can't tell me you would go {just to prove your point} to the most "black" neighborhood in LA and walk around calling people the N word and then telling them to "grow thicker skin"because it was your right of free speech? LOL you'd get shot man!
