Have any of you had a closer look at the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II photo camera? If you`re planning on taking professional photos this really looks like an amazing camera for the price.
Plus, it is the first Canon D-SLR camera that can record full-HD (!) videos at 1920x1080.
Here is a little movie that star-photographer Vincent Laforet filmed with his Canon 5D (and various Canon lenses).

Definitely for the professional photographer and not for someone just taking holiday snaps of the kids! Pretty impressive. The $3,500 price tag keeps that out of my reach for things I need, but I'm sure some of you guys here would put that to good use. 21 mega pixels... wowza!

I am seeing it, but I am not believing it. This is the most crystal clear stream I have seen and looks way too professional to be comming from a still camera, or at least with the aid of pro lighting....
If you get one Hal, show us what you can achieve or give us a demo and then I'll consider it. I can be a sceptic at times, and with a hefty price tag like this, I would have to think twice. ....
(As If I would get one ).. The pro cameras of yesterday are within' arms reach in price now So I'd have to wait a couple years before I can afford this monster pixel colossus.

Just think what the pros will be using by the time any of us can afford to use something like this! Wow!

The video itself is astounding, but I'm not really surprised. The video capabilities of digital cameras has advanced spectacularly, over the past five years - to the point where even $300 point-n-shoots yield good results these days.
There are also pocket cameras (from Pentax, for example) that record video straight to Divx and even the low-life "aipteks" of the world are now capable of HD recording (albeit, with poor optics and barely passable fundamentals).
This is typical Canon excellence and they do have a lesser version (if you can call THAT lesser), the EOS 40D for about half the price. One thing is certain - if I should win the lottery anytime soon, that EOS 5D MK II is probably one of the first five things I'd score.
