Hey guys

i've had problems with this numerous times with a few pro's.
Under the "show hidden files & folders" option the box stays ticked but it won't show any of my hidden files.Use to but all of sudden 1 day it just never showed. It's my music that i have chosen to hide. The Music folders themselves are there but all the music inside the folders ain't there.Obviously i've chosen to hide them but even though it says "show hidden files & folders"the songs are nowhere to be seen.

I go to "Search"on the computer & "look in hidden files & folders" & all my music from those folders show up but when i right click on a song & click "open containing folder" the music folders are empty but, like i said the "show hidden files & folders"option stays ticked [Confused]

Howdy howdy...more PC problems with hidden files! [Smile]

did you hide those files under the same user name?

Not sure if this would apply, but sometimes when you change some viewer settings, you have to also click the 'apply to all folders' option to make it universal

Well, what i've decided to do is do "Search"on the comp locate the hidden folders,go to "properties"& untick "hidden"that way the Folders have re-appeared back where they should be.
BUt that still hasn't fixed the problem.I'd still like to make my chosen folders "hidden" but i would like them to "show" when i choose to but, that option has obviously stopped working & now, that option automatically STAYS on "show hidden files & folders"even if i change it to "do not show hidden files & folders".If i choose that option, after i close the box it will automatically switch back to "show hidden files & folders"

[Confused]

hmm...not sure what the problem is.

Are you free & clear of your encryption stuff that plaqued you last time?

Do you know how to navigate via DOS window? I could tell you how to manually reset the files...or I could make a batch job that could reset ALL hidden files of a defined type, like .mp3.

btw...I wouldn't rely on modifying the hidden tag via the Search window...it is mearly another overlay.

Did you say in Windows Explorer you navigated to the file and then attempted to change the hidden bit?

Does your user have admin rights? I am guessing this is the same user that hid the files.

there are 4 user accs plus 1 guest acc on this comp but i'm the only one that ever uses this computer because the others usually use laptops.
The Owner of this computer never uses it he also uses a laptop so,you could almost say this is mine it's in my room anyway lol.
The folders i have chosen to be "hidden" are My Documents(pictures, vids & music folders)
Yes i did get everything back to normal after that other problem but now my "hidden" folders aren't showing up at all & it automatically is set to "show hidden files & folders" so they should be showing obviously but they're not [Confused]
I just did i tester on one of my music folders yesterday, ticked "hidden" it disappeared & now it won't show up.It's like throwing my folders into the Bermuda Triangle haha.I don't use IE i use Mozilla Firefox.

Well,i did get my music folders back yesterday except for 1 which i can't remember the name of.
i typed in the name of each folder in "Search"went to properties & unticked "hidden" so they have now shown back up in My Documents.

Is there anyway i can get all the files within the hidden folders to all show up at once instead of having to remember the name of every single file & unhiding it.
I'm slowly getting all my songs back but i have to remember the names of all the tracks contained in those folders so, i'm getting them back one by one.
In 1 music folder showing under "properties" it says there is 2,360 files 15 folders so,i have 2,360 tracks in there but at the moment only 5 files & 2 folders are showing.
I must have selected something to hide all files in those folders.

ah...Windows Explorer is not Internet Explorer:)

Windows Explorer is when you right-click on the START button, then select 'Explore'.

To answer your question...yes...very easy to mass unhide files, specially if you have a defined file type, such as mp3.

Are you good at navigating the file/folder structure? Sorry, not to sound insulting, but need to make sure you can dig down to where you need to go...but then again...if you know all the files you are looking for are of a defined file type...then I can tell you how to mass get your files back. PM me
