i just blew a sub out the other day, after about 2 or 3 years of abuse. i went to buy another cone then found out that the speaker is on back order. luckily there were still a couple left on amazon so i grabbed one.

but it made me realize that perhaps sometime soon it might be time to update my setup. my 15" R types are doin the job but if i blow another one i will prolly replace both. the guy at the local sound shop was ranting and raving about this orion 4000 watt woofer. im not all that hot about it. what do you suggest for a 15" cone?

i also have a 2600 watt hifonics amp. its a powerhouse but if i dont have my backseats folded down while bangin it, it will over heat and shut off within an hour or so. im thinking about going SO big that im using less and less of the total available power so that it doesnt overheat so easily.

Nah not really. Early teens used to dig the bass thumpin' from cars goin by. Late teens, a buddy of mine had a 15" JBL in his RX7 (powered by don't remember what the watts were back then) but Dang sittin' in the back seat nearly blasted a hole through my chest on every bass kick thinkin' "I GOTTA GET ME ONE'A DEEZ" [Hump]

Early 20's, grabbed a cheap xplod 12" 1200w sub powered by a 1500w amp (bridged) runnin' off my alpine deck and had fun with that for about 6mths then started to have electrical probs with the car, so I sold the sub & amp.

Think I'm gettin' a lil' old now because 2 simple 200w 6x9's would do me fine nowa days...lol [Laugh] Just thinkin' back in the day... Used to like bumpin' sounds like...

My little brother used to be heavy into car audio systems 20 years ago. He had a crazy expensive custom system built for his car that would rattle the windows in the neighborhood when he would drive by.

Never understood making that much of an investment in a car stereo though. One time he had it all stolen by a thief and then another time wrecked the car.

i could never explain it. ive had a pair of subs since i was 14 before i could even own a car. im 27 now and bangin harder than ever. in my audio history i must've spent tens of thousands of dollars on speakers and amps. ive literally been thru dozens of pairs of speakers and amps.

footlong, both those songs are some oldies and take me back to when i had a green thunderbird with a pair of 12" 800 watt pioneers runnin in the trunk. i remember it was when one of my best friends had his first apartment...

im very much into music - an audiophile if you would. by merely hearing a song takes me back to the point in my life when i used to listen to that particular song. i get so nostalgic.

lately ive been listening to a lot of dubstep cuz it really bangs but im real heavy into rap music, i rap myself as well. i have a very broad range of music that i listen to and become highly offended by people who shrug off my love for rap music, particularly when followed by "you dont know what good music is". i listen to everything from eagles (HOTEL CALIFORNIA BANGS, SON!), to motown oldies, to jazz (lee morgan - totem pole), to rock... the list will go on.

Nope there is nothing more fulfilling then the sound of my exhaust notes. No subwoofer can replace that sound. Nevermind that I can barely hear the stero in my car not that I could even fit a new sound system in it. Barely fit in it myself [Big Grin]

I used to be heavy into it as well, buying my first sub off a buddy with spare change i has accrued. Stepped up to component systems on all 4 corners and 2 12's with a 1000watt amp ( birth sheet said close to 1200 ) and a 4 channel throwing 75 each. With a skipping deck, no cap and a bad rca cable i still hit 143.5 at a local SLAP show. Now that equipment sits on a shelf in the garage. Sold the car it was in, and while i did get another camaro, it is way too mint to put a system in it. Now with a baby on the way, im not sure when the next stereo is going to happen [Cry]

I used to be. I liked building boxes and filling them with pro thump speakers and Rockford amps.

I'm heavy into the car audio...I don't know if its too late to help you, but I'd start off with that amp. I never heard of hifonics and if you're having to lower your seats in your ride after an hour or so...I hate to say it...but you probably have a cheap amp. Or a low quality amp. Sometimes you just have to pay for what you want. I've never spent less than $500 for an amp...and I always buy 2 amps whether I'm banging one for each speaker, or 2 for 4 speakers. My next project is for 9. As far as 15s go, i'm more of a 12' guy for the simple fact my bass hits a tad bit crisper...it sounds tighter in my opinion. I did go 13.5 in 2007 with the jbls/with the the kevlar coating...beat out alot of people, and not by just bass, people, even old white guys would come up to me at the car wash! Like "I don't really like loud systems, but yours is the cleanest sounding I've ever heard." But enough about me...

If you are in love with 15s I suggest digital design or more commercial like pioneer, jbl, jl audio. Again, this isn't something for you if you're not serious...but spending tens of thousands...I would hope you wouldn't mind a lil bit more quality for the money. As far as amps go, I would definitely step that up, digital design makes good amps, but so does, jl audio, alpine, pioneer even infinity...I know I'm not bringing anything too groundbreaking, but its really just that simple. Buy some higher quality name brand components and all that riding with the seats down is history... [Hump]

Well, it kinda is too late last month I got tboned and my car was totalled. I jutpicked up an 08 mustang and equipped it with a pair of pioneer 12s (the 1000/3500 watt ones) and a brutus 2400 pushing they are NOT loud at all, at least by means of 2400 watts of energy. Might try one more pair of 12s but after that ima have to find a way to make 1 or 2 15s fit in that lil lunchbox trunk these fords have...

I'm pretty big on audio and I have to say that hifonics is NOT a baby step amp. I've been thru multiple manufacturers and I gotta say that brutus I had was a beast.

You're right...hifonics is not baby step amp...but having cooling problems only leads me to believe your amp produces too much heat trying to power your sound...and I'm a firm believer in doing it right the 1st time. There's nothing to beat heat since all of it is internal. You'd have to break in and look at the amp from a component level to see what's being used...but that's deeper than I like to go. I have never had an amp go hot to where I had to lower anything...and I do play for hours...except on road trips. I will once again when I get my 94 impala ss out the shop.

Not saying its funny you got t-boned in your 08 mustang last month, but it kinda is, especially since I was t-boned in my 07 mustang last month too...by some old man while I was getting my granma a birthday present. Loved that car...was catching everything from soccer moms to hoodrats to sonic carhops. I didn't have no rims, but I kept it clean....Got a lil blazer to go from point a to b, but I'm off the hunt for awhile since I ain't bringing out the impala until next summer... [Hump]

Yeah I threw some black 20s on to contrast the grabber orange. 4.6 5 speed. K&n cai, bbk long tubes, magnaflow glass pipe. I'm a chevy boy but this is a ford ill ride.

long story short, the impound g'd all my sit out my car after it was towed so I had to start from scratch. Imma move up to som alpine type x 12s and if them don't beat my trunk lid off then imma have to go bigger.

And yeah. This car brings trim. On the other hand I never really realized HOW many people hate mustang. Its like is mainstream to hate that car. But that's ok... imma do me.
