This Sansui QRX 5500 receiver sounds GREAT. It belonged to Footgirl Allyssa's dad (Allyssa is the "Van Halen Footgirl"). He was cleaning out one of their storage places and gave this to her (he suggested she could use it in her dorm room).

Allyssa had little interest in it and asked if I wanted it. The cabinetry was in great shape and it looked pretty good. I took it apart, popped a few caps, blew out some cobwebs and did a little restore job on it.

This afternoon, I tested it for the first time and it was GREAT!!! You want to talk about some serious power and high current, this was fantastic. It has two auxilliary inputs and (faithful to components of the time), a Mic input on the front.

This quad receiver will handle eight sets of speakers with aplomb. I tested it with some James Gang, Bread, Metallica, Alan Jackson, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Handel (Finale To The Water Music).

Afterward, I put it all back together, packed it up, put it on the shelf and just marvelled at it. Here are a few photos of this Receiver:

I specifically love hifi components from the seventies and some of the earlier components as well. I also love tube amps and pre-amps.

After we got it going, I asked Allyssa if she wanted it. She looked at it, said "It's kinda big, it's not too cute. Too many buttons". So - I was fortunate to inherit this audio instrument. What a great day.
