Anybody have an iPhone 3G? Just got mine three days ago and (wow!) it's awesome!

I love that it combines the following devices all in one sleek, touch-screen device:

GPS
iPod
Phone
Camera
Email
Wed

Hell, I even play piano on the screen from an app I downloaded called "Pianist." It let's you record too. And with a metronome!

I´m sure it is great.

I always have to think of this article, though:

The iPhone sucks (article from July 2007)

Don`t let it spoil your fun [Wink] I just thought it was funny when I read it the first time.

Since the 3G came out, you're starting to see more ipods on campus

I got mine about three weeks ago, I had the 1st generation iphone as well. The apps are awesome, but I have noticed more dropped calls with AT&T's 3G service. The phone could accomplish world peace, but if I can't make a phone call what's the use?

No prob Hal. I found the article to be funny also! He is definitely right about a few things but most certainly wrong about some as well.

You have to understand my elation coming from a Razr phone that had a shitty camera, no mp3's, no web, no email and no maps. And I loved that phone!

Last thing. I know three peeps that have an iPhone and two of them did nothing but complain about how it was "too hard to learn all this stuff." I found it easy and way fun to learn in a few hours.

The Instinct, from Samsung/Sprint. Love it! For $129 it's hard to beat.

Instinct vs. the iPhone... [Tongue]

Btw Hal, I love Maddux's take on a lot of things. Been reading his pages for a couple years now.

WillJerk4Feet, that was fricken cool! That phone looks awesome. I've had my iPhone for a week now and I love it, however there are a few things I still don't know and a few things I found out that I don't like about it.

Found these interesting comments about the Instinct versus the iPhone. Bye the way, please tell me the Instinct has an mp3 player in it, otherwise, I'm afraid the discussion is over. Lol!

Q - "The Instinct is better than the iPhone."

A - "On paper, yes, but digging a little deeper you'll see a world of difference. They both have a web browser only the iPhone's offers pinch-zooming, browsing in landscape AND portrait mode, and support of embedded media (anything Quicktime can play.)
Sprint TV and Sprint Radio are a joke. You mean to tell me this crummy gruel of content that I must pay a monthly fee for compares to say, Youtube? I'd rather have Youtube.
Sprint may have "broadband" speeds, but:

1) Their "broadband" coverage is still lacking in many parts of the country

2) The iPhone's fast rendering engine renders pages FASTER in many cases than Sprint's entire smartphone lineup (see the Youtube example of the Treo vs. the iPhone loading CNN.com .) In addition, EDGE offers lower latency than 1XRTT and is usually on par or better with first-generation EVDO.

My guess is if you're still stuck in a contract and must have a touch-screen phone, this will do. Nobody in their right mind would take this over an iPhone."

...I don't know if I agree or disagree but they are both fuckin stellar pieces of equipment!

The 1st generation iPhone was poor, in my experience. For reasons unexplained, I still bit on the latest 3G iteration, and bought / upgraded to it (despite having a Blackberry Bold and a few other phones). I also have a Touch, which is essentially, and iPhone without the phone.

Those darn, addicting apps have kept me in the purchase path for iPhones and iTouch products, more than the validity of the hardware itself. They are so much fun, and when you combine the right ones, it can make your iPhone or Touch an outstanding PDA (with or without mp3, video, phone, etc.).

Itunes itself continues to be a source of aggravation to me - the fact it hijacks Windows (and OSx) functions, etc. and, despite the beauty of it's interface ... another reason why I have it ... still bugs out and needs massaging to keep it working properly. I can't STAND the arrogance of DRM and other forms of media protection, something only Apple feels is (still) valid. Buy your songs on iTunes but F..ck you if you think you own them.

The one-way sync and sync-only characteristics are also a pain in the neck, the fact you are not able (allowed) to sync BOTH ways ... leaving Apple to decide what you can transfer TO your computer, from your device, etc. Yes, I know about third-party software solutions for this and have purchased several of them ... most are usable without crippling the ipod's standard feature set ... most of the time. If they could shed some of their arrogance and allow simple two-way drag-and-drop, that would really be great.

The new software update patch to version 3 promises some exciting benefits - and yes, I'll go ahead and fork out the money for it on my Touch, though it's free on my phone.

I recently got an HTC Touch Diamond and it is FANTASTIC. I have been completely blown away by it. Speaking from the standpoint of an incorrigible gadget-tech addict, it's one of the finest pieces of tech I've had the pleasure to own.

Are touch screens really that fantastic? If the phone crashes or is slow, you can't tell when you have pressed a button, because there are no buttons!

That's not quite correct. The phone or device has a tactile sensation which feels just as though you are touching or pressing an actual "button". Each developer and product line has it's own version and view of this, but they all accomplish this purpose nicely.

Not only that, but the good ones (such as Blackberry Storm, LG Vue, etc.) will let you the user, decide just how much "touch" to experience. You do this by calibrating it in a simple menu system.

Some devices go even further, allowing you to attribute a click or other sound to the touch. So it not only feels like a (physical) button being pushed, but sounds like one as well.

Nokia has a particularly real and fantastic tactile feedback in it's keypads and is racing ahead in this arena. The newer "Haptic" technologies are making "Haptic Sensors" feel more like buttons than actual buttons ... and you can even choose your (virtual) button.
