Hi Guys,

I just noticed when I type some letters into the main address bar some sites seem to appear?.Say for example when I type in "w" http://www.wusfeetlinks.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=18 will appear and the same with a few other letters when I type them in?.I usually just delete files or history or something and it clears everything in the address bar that I have been through, but now it doesn't clear?.Could you guys give me some suggestions on what might have caused it or how I could clear it?.

Thanks.

Ghost,

Usually you only have to delete the history. But also try clearing the program's cache file too. That might do the trick. I'm on a MAC, so I can pinpoint you to the area, but on my IE program, it is in the preferences along with the history. I just clear both.

Make sure the auto complete is turned off. Then clean your cache out and restart your browser.

When you turn autocomplete off, it will not keep the urls in the addy bar.

I'm assuming you are using IE..The setting is a little different in Firefox and Mozilla.

Sorry guys I don't know nothing about comps so could you take me through the steps lol. This comp is a Windows XP.In Internet Options in the Advanced page I see "use inline AutoComplete" do I tick that or untick that or what?.Then what after that?.

Thanks Guys.

Ghost, untick it and click on apply.

Then, click on the "General" tab and click on "delete cookies", next, click on "delete files" and make sure "delete offline content" is checked and then click ok. Next, click "clear history"...also change the number of days to keep pages in history to "0". Click apply and click ok.

Hope this helps.

Also, if you are able to download and install stuff ... you might want to try Window Washer. It's free to try out. It's a great program to have to delete files that the regular cache cleaning process doesn't take care of.

It rocks!

Happy browsing!

Hi Yates, thanks for showing me but,I have done all that and it's still there?.There is one thing though,When I click Clear History I can't click the Apply button for some reason, only OK?.Also,we have seperate folders for each of us here to go into to access the net.We all have porn on our Homepages and she said,it can only happen if someone installs the Homepage but I told her they can change on their own?.I have tried to change my homepage but it reappears each time I reconnect?.Could it be a Virus?.

I'll have a look at Window Washer.

Thanks.

Sorry Yates, that was my mother I was referring to in my last post and yes I am in my early 20's lol.Hey where do I find the cache files so I can clear it?.

Thanks.

Ghost,

That's your cache I was explaining above.

Make sure you restart your browser and you shouldn't see your url history.

Download window washer to get rid of all the hidden dirt.

if you look on the last shot I posted, on the top it has a url for your homepage. Go to what ever page you want as your homepage, go back in internet options and click the "use current" button, then click "apply", "ok" what ever that isn't greyed
out.

If you don't have them already then get em.
Ad-Aware and Spybot. They are free.

Make sure your anti-virus software is up to date and use it on a regular basis. If you don't have one then get one! A good free one is AVG.

Make sure you scan your comp first before downloading and installing AVG or any other brand, if you decide to go that route. Go here for a free scan.

Ghost, there are lots of resources on the net you should check out on safe computing.

Do a google search. You'll learn a lot.

p.s. save some dough and buy yourself a computer.

Sounds like Spyware. There's a very malicious type called "CoolWWWsearch". It switches your web browser main page to things you don't want.

Yates,I have tried Delete Cookies and Files,Clear History and then restarting my computer but it's still there?.When you say restatr Browser is that the same as Restart computer?.I'll deal with that first then my homepage trouble and then,I have a problem where everytime I get a pop-ad on my screen all my internet windows completely close automatically?.I think this comp might have a Virus?.

Thanks.

Ghost,
You need to scan your system for virues and spyware.

Use the links I gave you above.

While you're at it make sure you go to windows update and download any updates for your computer.

Hi Yates I have installed Window Washer Ad-Ware and scanned the comp.I had 161 objects quarantined. Is that good or bad?.About clearing the URL's in the Address Bar,when you say restatr my browser,do you mean restart my comp or where do I go to restart my browser?.

Thanks.

Posted by Ramsfan (Member # 1996) on :

Install and run Spybot. Make sure that you shut off Ad-Ware when you run Spybot.

161 objects is very good. We generally ran with removing 700 to 800 objects every week, til we d-loaded the new yahoo toolbar. Now pop-ups are nil, and we get about 3 to 4 new spyware crap every 2 weeks, witch dont really affect us at all.

Please tell me where to find my browser so I can get rid of the URL's in my address bar and how do I permantly change my homepage to get rid of the porn page?.

Ghost,
Turn off inline autocomplete...clear your cache, make sure you have the "days to keep pages in history" set to "0" and restart your browser.

To restart your browser:

First off...close it out.
Now open it back up.

Every time you open your browser, you shouldn't see any url's in the address bar. If you still do, then I don't know what else to tell ya.

Sorry if I can't help you any more Ghost. Everything I explained to you works for me.

Anyone else care to pick this up if he is still having trouble?

Your browser is where you do all of your "surfing". Internet Explorer would be the best example of a browser.

Try using blank as your homepage.
