So I got a problem, and I need some help from you guys. I can't sleep at night thinking about this.

I'll give you some background information first.

Lately I think my girl's been cheating on me. Don't know for sure, but there's a couple of things I've been noticing over the last little while.

- One time I picked up her cell phone to play some Bejewled (damn that game is fun) she saw me and freaked out, snatching the phone out of my hands, and starting chewing me out for not respecting her privacy and always snopping around and stuff. Meanwhile I'm sitting there with a confused look on my face. Completely overracted, which is unusual for her.
- She's going out without me a lot more, and whenever I ask who she's going out with she always goes like "Oh, you don't know them." Even though we have the same friends.
- Everytime she comes home, she gets dropped off around the corner and walks across the lawn to the front door. It's a bit weird, and I'm wondering why she doesn't just get dropped off on the front driveway so she doesn't need to walk through the lawn with her heels. Unless she doesn't want me to see the car/guy that's dropping her off...?
- She doesn't want to watch movies with me anymore. Everytime I want to go, she's says something like "Oh, just call up your boys and go watch it with them - I'll be fine by myself. I don't really want to go - I don't really want to watch anything that's out right now." She hasn't liked anything that's come out for like months.
- When I come back from work sometimes, she's not home yet. And when she comes in a little later, before I can ask, she gives this elaborate story about grocery shopping/fixing her hair - completely unprompted.
- She answers my harmless little questions a little too fast and a little to extensively. I'm not grilling her or anything - I'm just asking innocent little questions because I'm interested in what she did and if she had fun and etc. And it's almost like she makes it feel like an episode of CSI, even though I'm just making conversation.

So there's just a bunch of things that are just bugging me, so one day when she went out with some girlfriends that "I don't know", I decided to see if I could catch the car that she got dropped off in - see if it was...I don't know, a shifty looking guy, or someone I knew, or whatever. So I decided to hide behind my car, so I could see around the corner when she got dropped off. So sure enough, when I hear a car coming around, I run out and I hide behind my relatively new Civic. And I notice a dent on my side panel.

So my question is this - should I take it to the dealer to get a new panel installed, or can I take it to a cheaper place to get it hammered out and stuff?

Hello Daniel Larusso -

The problem you are describing is very serious, one that many of us have had to endure and suffer over the years.

When dealing with delicate situations such as these, there is no easy answer. Yes, you'll get all kinds of advice from well-meaning friends and co-workers. Suddenly, everybody is an expert and they will make sure to let you know.

I know this simple advice of mine may not help you get past the emotional turmoil you must be going through - but it will give you some practical insight from an objective bystander. So here's my advice:

Taking it to a dealer for a new (and proper) panel will preserve much more of your potential resale value than a "hammer and putty" job. PLEASE spare yourself the additional pain and remorse of a poorly-repaired panel.
