Hi guys,

I´ve had this quote from a movie flying around my head in the last days, mainly because my brother used it as a sample on his last album.

I wanted to use it as a signature but Wu only allows 250 characters --- so it was too long.

I like the quote anyway (probably because I´m getting old!), so I thought I´d post it and you guys can guess from which movie it is
==> WITHOUT using Google, else it`s way too easy.

If you know, please post a quote of your own for us to guess [Wink]

"When you're young you've got time. You got nothing but time. Throw away a couple of years here, a couple of years there - it doesn't matter. You know the older you get, you say, Jesus, how much I got? I got 35 summers left. Think about it - 35 summers."

Cheers,
-Hal-

I may be wrong on this one, and it's been a long time since I've seen the movie, but I believe it's from "Rumble Fish".

Got a harder one for ya:

"You let her behind the curtain, I know you did. You never let them behind the curtain Will. You never let them see the little old man behind the curtain working the levers of the great and powerful OZ. They are all sisters Willie... they aren't allowed back there... they must'nt see."

I like this thread.
Bonus quote:

"That's fuckin' blasphemy. Elvis wasn't a Cajun."

LOL Sasha, I know that one's Arnold in Predator because I used to have a drummer who made a habit of reciting that particular quote at inopportune moments.

Hal, kinda curious if I got that one right or not.

Nobody cares to guess on the two quotes I posted? C'mon, there must be someone out there who knows at least one of them.

Yeah, you`re right about that quote --- well done, considering that Rumble Fish isn`t really a very well known movie.

I´m sorry, I don`t know your quotes. I think I might have guessed Sasha`s right...

I´ve got an easy one here: "Oh my God, it's full of stars!" [Wink]

Mustang Sally is one of my favourite swing movie songs. I saw it back 10 years ago in the UK when the film was first released. Therefore, I think it is bound to be .... the..... COMMITMENTS! [Smile]

Right?

Well Done, it is indeed from The Commitments.

My all time favourite movie quote! [Smile]

Easy. That's from "The Usual Suspects"

(ah, IamSpartachris was a few minutes faster than me --- only saw his post afterwards [Wink] )

Yeah, Gimme, that was indeed "2001" by Stanley Kubrick.

Your quote is from The Usual Suspects --- I just watched it again a few weeks ago. Great movie!
That quote has been used so many times --- I know at least two bands who have songs renamed after that quote.

Here`s another one, specially for Gimme because it involves video (easy!):

"It was one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing and there's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it, right? And this bag was like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes. And that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in."

Oh yes babe " American Beauty" is the one!

Ever since I saw the guy's compilation stack onto mini DV in his bedroom I ve always wanted to do this as well... and hell yes.... Video helps me remember too.. and I need to remember too!

Thanks for this Hal!!!!!

Here is a rather difficult one but I think the meanings from movie are here to stay.

"Life is trouble. Only death is not. To be alive is to undo your belt and look for trouble."

Something was weird about Hals post,- oh my god its full of stars-, I couldn't put my finger on for a while. Then I got it; wasnt the computer in the 2001 movie called 'Hal 9000'. Im not for sure, havent seen the movie in a while, but I think it was!

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

Yes, it was HAL 9000. (I´m a big Kubrick fan)

Arthur C. Clarke (the author of the book) used the letters HAL because they were similar to IBM (the leading computer company at that time).
If you go back one letter from "IBM" you end up with "HAL". Clever, eh? [Wink]

Gimme, I don`t know the answer to your quote, but I´ve read it before. Is it from a Greek movie?

I have another one here (also quite easy):

"If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, fucking beings."

Anyone else or shall I say where is it from? [Smile]

Ok here is another quote from the same movie [Smile]

"Dammit boss, I like you too much not to say it. You've got everything,
except one thing: Madness. A Man needs a little madness or else... he never
dares cut the rope, and be free."

And a little hint: Although based on a Greek novel it was made famous to all cine-maniacs worldwide for the role acting and the depth of its meanings within it [Smile]

Ahhh, that must be "Alexis Sorbas" (don`t know if that is the same title in English or Greek)

-Hal-

Posted by Gimme (Member # 6872) on :

Oh yes babe that's it!
"Zorba the Greek" from Nikos Kazantzakis' 1946 novel "The Life of Alexis Zorbas".

To all my friends!!!!!!!!!!

Hint: He was very drunk when he said this

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

Haha, Sasha --- That`s Bukowski, who was always drunk! Just reading one of his short-story collections at the moment.

So it`s from "Barfly". [Wink]

Guess this one --- it`s a cool quote from one of my all time favourite movies:

"I don't believe in germs! Germs are just a plot they made up so they can sell you disinfectants and soap."

The movie is from a British director. [Wink]
