What is your favorite Pink Floyd song? [Joint]

Posted by LeDaemon (Member # 198) on :

Either "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" or "Echoes."

Isn't the "thread starter" supposed to list his as well? [Big Grin]

I have many Floyd favorites, right now I'm humming "Comfortably Numb".

Hands down, easy for me to choose...Echoes! Sure, I listed another album besides Meddle as my fave, but Echoes is, simply put, hauntingly beautiful. The middle of the song kinda' loses the momentum built up there at the beginning (and for that matter sounds like it belongs to another song entirely), but thankfully the song shifts back toward the end, and it goes out on a very powerful note.

I'm usually not one to sit and listen to music...I'm the type that's doing something while music is in the background...but Echoes has had me "actively listening" on more than a few occasions. I can just close my eyes and let the imagination soar with that song, and hopefully that makes sense. [Big Grin]

I, too, have many favorites.

[1] I like everything from "Dark Side of the Moon"; I own it on CD.

[2] I'm partial to four songs from "The Wall" -- "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2", "Hey You", "Comfortably Numb", and "Run Like Hell."

[3] I also like three other songs: "Have A Cigar", "Learning to Fly", and "High Hopes."

I really don't have one. I favor all Floyd. My favorite of the moment would have to be "POW R. TOC H." as I am really really doing something I should'nt have done.

I think my favorite Pink Floyd song would have to be Time. Those lyrics have gotten me motivated more than once. It's not a new message at all, and I've heard it all my life, so I guess it's less about what they're saying as opposed to how they're saying it. Oh, thanks for reminding me that I need to replace my "Wish You Were Here" CD. BTW, never loan out CDs.

I say props to Echoes too! The part with the crows cawing and wind blowing is very eerie!! Kinda like Hitchcock's "The Birds" or those diseased crows in Resindent Evil game series.

Oh man! I forgot "welcome to the machine"! That's a good one too!

I know it's not exactly an original preference, but I absolutely love "Another Brick in the Wall." On a stereo with good base, there's no topping it. I also love "Wish You Were Here."

Go to youtube.com and type in "Pink Floyd Dark Side of OZ". I totally forgot the so-called Dark Side of the Moon album synching with Wizard of OZ movie. Some of it is hilarious!

I have several boots of Echoes. It is just amazing. I saw them twice & they didn't play it!! BTW pick up the new David Gilmour DVD. Nice Floyd covers with Richard Wright on keys. And yes, they do Echoes.

Glad to see that there are some genuine Pink Floyd fans here. I was astonished to see the number of "Echoes" entries here, certainly one of their greatest works.

I must admit to a special fondness for a couple of the movie soundtracks they did. I loved the album "La Vallee". The one-two knockout punch of "Obscured by Clouds" and "Free Four" are still a sonic thrill and a good chuckle.

Picking just one is very difficult for me. "Echoes" is, without a doubt, their masterpiece. Still, I remember how moved I was by the 2 songs that were segued: "Obscured by Clouds" and "When You're In". I'm sure that these tunes would sound somewhat neolithic to the modern/younger ear but, at the time they were rockin'. Because the album was a soundtrack, it had a certain continuity that made it difficult to isolate a single song.

I still have a soft spot for "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast".

I also can't forget the alarm I caused for so many of my friend's parents when I introduced "Careful With That Axe, Eugene".

This is not to minimize all the later great work that they did. I liked Pink Floyd best when Rodger Waters wasn't entirely motivated by bitterness.

I'd recommend David Gilmour's two solo albums to get a sense of the band I grew to love.

Tough question...I think based on my current mood and the fact Mommie already picked Comfortably Numb, I'll have to go with "Wish You Were Here."
