Okie dokie, so im heading to europe for a contiki tour in mid january. ill be hitting germany, france, italy, switzerland, austria and the netherlands.
exactly how waterproof do i need to be? i have an incredibley unfashionable rain coat for emergencies, but do i really need to go out and spend $$$ on waterproof ski shoes for what is in reality, about two weeks? can i get away with trainers and thick socks?
thanks in advance

If you`re staying in cities in January you should be ok with thick socks and trainers...except it you are unlucky and the winter is suddenly extremely cold. But even here in North Germany the last winters have been kind of mild....and it sounds though as if you`re going to be more in the south of Europe, which is usually warmer anyway. If you`re planning on going hiking you will definitely need thick ski-shoes. Also, a thin raincoat may not be enough for European winter in January...I would suggest a warm waterproof jacket.
Which part of Germany are you visiting?
