Its a link to a web site guys, but Im pretty sure you people can figure out on what to click on. A group called Anonymous shut down the WestBoro Babtist Church while the head bitch sat and taunted the leader of the group. Its been two days, and the WestB site is still down. Anonymous are MY NEW FUCKIN HEROS!

I applaud Anonymous, though I am uncomfortable with the notion of denying expression, as deplorable as the WBC message is.

If america is a free country, then the gays should have the right to be gay and also on the flipside, westboro should be free to protest against. Why don't we just all get along....

Well put.

With the controversy of Catholic priests being shielded from the public eye (even the police) and getting away with it...who knew they weren't untouchable? [Smile]

Me likey.

When what is said or done is an infringement on either an individual's rights or those of a group, then that is when it is justified to take away the rights of the aggressor.

I can't believe how unfathomably wrong this is.

WestBoro's message is seriously corrupt yes, but to actively take them down will only strengthen their cause. In almost every similar event in history it has never been a good idea to attack a religion like that.

That aside, I also find it wrong that Anon should censor someone in such a way.

I'm for Net Neutrality but honestly when I see stuff like this happening, I feel we're at a point where we can't handle that power. Maybe it is time for stronger policing online.

While they are indeed assholes, the 1st amendment does protect their right to be assholes, as others have said. However, this just means the government can't come in and make them go be assholes somewhere else. But on the other hand, the 1st amendment also allows a group to assemble at the same locations as these people, and chant as loudly as they want "Fuck you!" over and over. [Smile] Which is similar in spirit to what anon did.

Im figuring that most of you guys throwing up the 'Freedom of Speach Act", have never had anyone serve in the military! The first admendment protects their rights from the goverment, not hardworking citizens thats tired of their anti-gay, anti-military rhetoric! When an 18 year old kid gets blown In half by a Talaban landmine; and those assholes go to his funeral and command he died because hes gay and Jesus hates him!! You dumbfucks need to be shot In the face just like them!

WBC != Catholics? Although I agree with the statement Catholics and West Boro BAPTIST Church aren't logically equivilent.

WBC doesn't even adopt and believe in the Gospel, thus making them not even Christian; much less Catholic. They're really just a group of bigotted idiots who think that they can disguise hate under the name of something that is truly Righteous.

Sorry, I was unclear - I meant religion generally.

And I'm Roman Catholic background (though, gladly, my mum never forced it upon me to go to church or whatever) so I do know all about Catholic values and traditions and all that bollocks; I'm not just speaking ignorantly and out of turn.

Absolutely mate - they picketed some rock stars funeral - Someone like Ronnie James Dio I think (before I even knew *what* westboro was) and I was kinda sickened if I'm honest -
a) that they would do this and
b) that it was allowed...moreso the latter.

You can take it in 2 directions:

1) They have already died, so there is no salvation for them, what they're doing is just pointless - even in their warped view of the world.

2) By doing something like this, that is a thwarting of how God has made things - if he needed human intervention, then he wouldn't be God. I.E: it is sacrilegious.

I was highlighting the paradox of doing it moreso than knocking the belief itself.

I have the incredible ability to see things from someone else's perspective. Amazing, I know.

Knowing and saying that, I can't quite see how you are still who you are. Unless you are in denial about it.. [Big Grin]

I just don't believe what others believe by proxy - I apply outside logic and actually consider it rather than blindly follow, otherwise everyone would be the same, wouldn't they?

Understanding someone's logic doesn't mean one has to believe it.

How about you? Are you in denial about being "prickly"? [Laugh]

(it was the nicest way I could say it, really)

I'm only a raging bear when provoked...otherwise I'll be your friend forever.

Andy, true understanding of certain logic will give you an unmitigated definite view of Truth sometimes that you can't walk away from...yes some blind logic has led many astray.

Points of view and beliefs are not definite nor truthful, they're shaped by experiences, upbringing, the world around you and they change with time. The only truth in them is that a person believes it to be true.

There's no correct or incorrect view until you get down to facts. Even then, there's interpretation of facts and so there is no such thing as an absolute truth; why did you bring this up?

Hmm.

I didn't see where Andy "provoked" you, unless you're still holding a grudge from previous arguments.

Just stating in case you weren't sure, since you called me a prick in nice terms lol.

Andy, so if I see a tree..it's not really a tree? Is it subject to change to a fencepost or a waterbed? There is absolute Truth and Facts, it's when we don't want to call it it's an issue. But that is how some humans chose to use their time on this Earth.

How do you know I see the same thing when we are both looking at the same tree? How do you know what I call green is actually what you would call orange?

How do you know what I feel/smell/see when I'm near one one is the same as what you do?

Perception is everything and the ONLY thing anyone has DIRECT access to is one's own inner thoughts and feelings.

The only absolute truth is that of self and...you can't even be certain of that - I don't know if you know the philosopher Harry Putnam and his brain in a vat theory - for all we know we are brains in a vat of fluid, hooked up to a computer and everything we think we feel is actually false.

You don't have to believe this theory, most don't (incl. me) but you have to admit you can't be certain that you're not. All the things you "know" about the world could be completely false in that case.

To summarise, if there is truth, then it can only be of self (true for one person; but not for another) and one can never be 100% sure of that even. To not admit that is sheer pig-ignorance. Facts are subjective to perception. (I'd call that a fact, I sense you'd disagree, further proving the point).

Cogito ergo sum - Descartes.

Then I would say stay off the hallucinogenic drugs lol!!furthering my point. An apple tree IS an apple tree, it's not an orange tree or a Lemon tree..but apple tree. We could both say it's even a freight train disguised as one..but that doesn't mean it's not anything but what it is. Regarding the Westboro slugs, there's no mistakening them for idiots..in whoever's perception you're looking through. [Thumbs Up]

So you treat your models the way you treat people here?

Thanks for the advice, but I'd rather be who I am.

Combine...what is the calculated amount of flouridated water you've consumed today? lol

Zero.

Your statement implied that you act "prickly" to women; it wasn't that huge a leap.

Actually it didn't imply anything, you made a judgement too early. And no that's not what I meant..*facepalm* nevermind man. lol

Not meaning to stoke the flames further, but this little gem was on yahoo headlines when I logged on a little bit ago!

Why?

Why?

I think they're seeing how far they can take it. They think they're invincible. Were I in Pennsylvania, I think I'd picket their church services in a devil costume with Black Sabbath blasting out.

But then again, I'm sure *I'd* be arrested for insensitivity/racism/public order violation so...

Just wondering: Has the anonymous shutdown of the WBC websites continued?
