Picked up a cheap 32" LCD/LED 720p yesterday which of course ain't your full 1080p as everyone else has, but it's definately a step up from my Square 29" CRT (I think runs at stardard 480p/i) which I should have upgraged a century ago but haven't til now.

Currently playing a PS3 game "Red Dead Redemtion". I was sorta fine with the gameplay at standard CRT def, but reading fine print was a little struggle and 'sucks' not seeing enemy shooters who are out of my 'square CRT' view [Roll Eyes] ...lol. Had to have the tv display 'centre cut' or else I wouldn't have been able to read anything if I shrunk the tv display view to wide. I really ejoy this game so much, I sorta forced myself to buy a wide HDTV. They had a few deals on special which was a bonus for me.

I first hooked up the PS3 analog (red, white, yellow RCA's) just as an initial trial run. Played the game for about five mins and was alright with the picture but wasn't overly impressed. Ok, once I hooked it up HDMI, I was like HOLY SHIT, picture was way clearer and I could read the texts clearly. When you ride through canyons, you can really enjoy the feel of the awesome backround scenery. I can also kill the mofo's who used to hide and be outta my square view. [Woot] [Violent]

Watched my first DVD in HD 'Machine Gun Preacher' which the picture was noticably better. I'll open up another thread to suggestions to pop my Blu Ray cherry if it's worth popping it 720p, or hang til I upgrade to 1080p.

I'm glad I got this [Thumbs Up]

If you can remember when you crossed into HD from the old CRT, what where your thoughts?

I bought a Sony Bravia 1080p TV a few years back for the living room. We use a PS3 for games and a a blu-ray player and for streaming movies on it. Using the HDMI connections is the only choice when connecting all your components. The next question is do you play your sound through a full surround sound system with a good subwoofer to get all the low end bass when you blowing up the enemy on your shoot 'em up games? If not your missing out on the full effect of the home theater full sensory immersion. [Big Grin]

I thought I'd also mention in my computer room I also use a 24" 1080p monitor connected with an HDMI cable to my CPU and use a six speaker surround sound. The drive on my computer is also a blu-ray so I can kick back at my desk and watch a movie or play PC games if my daughter and her friends have taken over my living room for the night. My previous monitor was a 21" CRT that was insanely bulky and weighed about 50 lbs. The thing caused my desk to bow slightly in the middle. So glad I upgraded!!!

What I've found is that avoiding analogue all together can make a DVD almost as clear as blue ray.

The TV has USB media imput, so I decrypt a DVD with the main movie as 1 giant single VOB file as usually they're chuncked in 0.99GB parts. Chuck it onto my hard-drive then hook it up to the TV. Playing directly from a USB device, the pictue is about 3x clearer IMO.

HDMI cable is definitely the way to go though. Do you have a DVD player that upconverts a regular DVD to almost HD blue ray quality?

Like duh, Thanks for opening my eyes LD, I should've checked in the first place. I checked and it does. Upscaling up to 1080p via HDMI. I've just watched 'Blade Runner' via DVD HDMI but that's not a significant movie to check with as it looks as if it was copied to DVD from VHS. I'll compare on the next one I get.

Yeah, try it with something like "Saving Private Ryan" and you will be amazed. However, that is one movie I need to upgrade to blue ray on.

Yup Kiwi in Australia. LOTR? Typical stereotypical Canadians eh?...lol.. Wanna see some Hobbit porn [Big Grin] . LOTR sounds like a good idea. Maybe this weekend. It's not at the top of my list at the mo', gonna rent out Safehouse (Denzel) today. If you want to watch a kiwi movie, you gotta check out 'Once Were Warriors'. Not a visual Bluray HDMI thing, just a good ol' kiwi movie.

Just watched 'Saving Private Ryan' DVD via HDMI and the picture quality is awesome.

Saw 'Journey 2' yesterday Blu-Ray and that's visually delicious. [Hump]

OOOOH! If you are going to watch Denzel movies see "Training Day" and "The Book of Eli." Book of Eli is basically like you are watching a movie made of the game "Fallout 3" in my opinion. Training Day is the first time in a movie I saw Denzel play a villain and he did great.

Good on "Saving Private Ryan." So good even my 15 year old daughter loved it.

Book Of Eli, Execellent Movie and my fave of his [Thumbs Up] . Reminds me every time when I dine in at KFC with the nice smelling moist toweletts in the sachets. Have never played any of the 'Fallout' games, are they good?

Don't remember Training Day too well but a good movie as him portraying a bad guy. The line that echos now in my mind from that movie right now is "Have you ever had your shit pushed in?"....lol. LD if I've miss understood your previous thread about 'shit day' literally as an acutal 'SHIT' and not a 'Bad Day', then I guess you need to take this advice literally next time it happens lol... [Nana] ....

I have played Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas and recommend both. Play 3 first. A new one in the series is due out this fall I believe.

I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm all played out at the mo. Had enough of the PS3 and won't be playin' it for a while, but usually look through the bargin bin at game outlets and If I run into Fallout 3, I'll check it out. While we're on this subject, saw a movie (I think is German) called 'HELL' director also directed Independence Day and 2012. Not bad, runs along the similar guidelines of the time/atmosphere of 'Book Of Eli' and 'The Road'.

Thanks for the tip on "Hell." I'll see if I can hunt it down.

It is crazy how big the screens have gotten. You can get an 80 incher at Costco now. People are buying hdtvs with their groceries.

Prices have come way down too. Back in 2005, my first 1080i plasma monitor cost over 3 grand. A few years later I went 1080p for about a 3rd of that price.

Then last Summer I picked up a 55" 3D panasonic, and holy $#!% talk about hi-def, it's shocking how real everything looks. Pretty much the ultimate for gaming or looking at soles.

^^To me you have the highest quality foot material there is out there so watching your own stuff on your new Panasonic 55 should be [Thud] I'd imagine.

Yeah, it's hard to describe to other people though. One of those things you have to see for yourself to really understand.

^^Nuff said, I'll have to wait til' it comes into my price range which will probably be about a year from now maybe? [Confused] ... I'll wait it out [Cool]
