I heard this on ESPN Radio.

Pittsburgh became the fourth city in the United States to have multiple professional teams (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) win the world championship in the same year with the Steelers winning the SuperBowl and the Penguins winning the Stanley Cup. The other three are New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston.

Two questions.

1. Of those cities which ONE do you think has the best chance of having this happen again?

2. Which city -- OTHER than the four I mentioned -- do you think has the best chance of having multiple pro teams win the world championship in the same year?

Phils in 08 and Eagles in 09!

Yeah! like the big toe is like the captain of the toes, but sometimes the toe next to the big toe gets so
big that there's like a power struggle and the second toe assumes control of the foot.

I don't think that's what I quite meant when I asked the questions. 2008 and 2009 are different years. When the Steelers won, that was in 2009. When the Penguins won, that was also in 2009. Another example: The Patriots won SuperBowl XXXIX (39) in 2005. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 2005. Again, we have at least two teams winning the world championship in the same year.

So again:

1. Of those cities which ONE do you think has the best chance of having this happen again?

2. Which city -- OTHER than the four I mentioned -- do you think has the best chance of having multiple pro teams win the world championship in the same year?

looking at the short term, the only one of the 4 who can do it again is Pittsburgh. all the others are having somewhat off years. Boston have won 2 world series this decade but won the NBA title last year. so if anything, Boston and Pittsburgh have a chance short-term

and the next city that this can happen to must be Chicago, courtesy of the Bears and the Blackhawks. we were very close this year to getting past Detroit, so it's only a matter of time. The Bears look alright, which means good in the division they are in. so it's only a matter of time before Chicago do it

Pittsburgh. Steelers and Penguins have a great team. Boston has a very good chance. Overall, I say Pittsburgh.

don't forget the steelers and pirates won in 1979

things change so much in football, but there is no doubt the pens will win more cups

You're correct. Both won in 1979. In fact when I said that Pittsburgh was the forth city to have multiple teams win world championships in the same year, that was me talking (I don't know why I said that now that I look back on it). ESPN mentioned those four cities but they never said that Pittsburgh was the fourth city to accomplish this.

But you didn't really answer the question (unless you're really thinking of an answer). You said the Pens will win more Stanley Cups and that things change a lot in football. So with the Steelers out of the picture, which city do you think can have multiple teams win championships in the same year?

I haven't given this a lot of thought myself and I was the one who asked the questions. I'll get back to you tomorrow on my opinions.

Pittsburgh, obviously, but Boston has a chance as well (Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins), particularly of possibly bagging a sports grand slam. All 4 of those teams are very good, particularly the Sox and Celtics.

If the Dodgers continue playing at this level, though, L.A. could do it for the second time this year, what with the Lakers winning.

I'll take Boston for 2010. The Patriots winning SuperBowl XLIV (44) and The Red Sox winning the World Series later that fall. A very close second is New York (yes, a part of me is being biased here since I live there). With all the money the Yankees spend, they'll cash in on a championship eventually. The NY Football Giants should stay competitive.

I went with Boston because I feel more confident that Tom Brady will win another championship before Eli Manning does. With baseball, it's a virtual toss-up.

As far as the other cities, I feel that Philadelphia has a good chance (Eagles and Phillies).

Could happen again this year actually...the Dodgers are the best in the majors right now....now I wonder if two different cities have had twin championships in the same year.

Not a big Hockey fan so don't know what's going on there, but surprised there's little mention of NY. They have competitive teams in football and basketball, seem there's as much possibility for this to happen there as Boston, Pitt or Philly really.
