You don't watch Avatar and see Twentieth Century Fox, burnt across the bottom all the way through, they do it at the beginning and end and that's it.
So why do producers do this with feet clips?
Does this annoy other people too or just me?
Well, if you watch TV you see the station ID in the corner of the screen. That said, I hate that too!
On all clips I've ever shot I've always had the website address at the end of clip credits never throughout. Its a distraction. I assume they do it so that if the clip is altered by someone and cut that they will still have their site's ID in it.
As far as still pictures I don't mind the watermark identifying the site its from as long as it is kept in a corner and not distracting or covering an important part of the picture. However, sometimes webmasters like to pop that baby right in the middle of a picture and cover up the model. Dunno why that is.

Probably the webmasters' way of showing people where the clip came from when it's posted on tube sites. After all, it's fairly easy to clip off the beginning and end of a clip if that's the only place where the website is.

Probably a better way would be doing it every so often at certain points in the video that doesn't distract vision and enjoyment of the video.
Don't get me wrong, I understand why producers do it but what producers need to understand themselves is that if they are putting something out there for sale, the thing that the customer is buying AND the customers viewing pleasure comes first and foremost.
The issue on file-sharing isn't the paying customers problem.

I watermark all my video because while you might feel that the file sharing issue isn't the paying customers problem, it's the paying customer that would have had to traded the file to begin with.

I think that’s a bit of an unfair thing to say, without your customers you have no business.
I personally don’t think that is the reason most do it though, link or no link the clips are still going to get shared, I think what it is producers are just marking their work, they see tv channels do it, so they do it and it’s a different!
Watching adult related things to Game of Thrones is 2 different things. No one wants to be fapping off and seeing .com half way across the heel. From a producing pov why spend a lot of money hiring these gorgeous women, investing in high tech equipment if www.blahbah.com is going to cover 20% of the screen? I just don’t understand
Surely there must be other ways?

Call me crazy, but this has never bothered me - even if I wasn't a webmaster. It isn't like a scrolling ticker like on a news segement. It's generally a ghosted, out of the way static text.
I'd venture to say that the watermark being on the entire clip has caused most sites to gain more viewers than to lose them from people who don't like them. I know I've seen them, even on tube sites, and went and checked them out to see more. Hell, I get mad when it's not there and I have no clue who or where that fine video came from.
3D feet in your face, 2D 'Times New Roman' font, stands out a mile.
But yeah have to say, it's not just 3D. 2D bothers me too, especially HD i tend to notice it more because everything is sharper and you tell something that isn't supposed to be there is there.
But yeah i know what you mean and i agree, i've gone a few times myself 'where's this clip come from?' on some clips that don't have watermarks.
But as said, maybe just do it beginning and end or when the scene is changing?

Maybe it's because we put alot of time and effort into producing these clips and there's alot of pirates online who re-upload with edited watermarks so that we don't get the credit or take the credit themselves. Maybe you haven't done any producing so you aren't sure how it works, but this is why we do it.

I have no problem with anything producers do to protect their content/keep themselves up and running.
Does it annoy me? No. Why would it? I want the sites I like to stick around for a good long time. And I'm not made of money, so I can't support them as much as I'd like to.

We try and film models with the watermark area in mind, remembering to keep things away from the lower right side and we do our best to make it as non intrusive as possible.
