Taking the initiative by the positive comments from LeDeamon's reply about Aphrodite's Child on the thread "What song is playing right now on your head" I ll soon post a relative extensive history of Greek rock/garage/punk bands starting from the late 60s to now. I know it's gonna be a tough job to do since the bands are more or less too many. I ll try to link pages (if any) on their history and their Discography. Also, I ll try to post my personal views so that anybody who wants to "search" a little further can have a thorough look on these bands. Moreover, I ll try to isolate from this "History/Discography of bands" only those which have the English Language in their lyrics, since I know Greek is sort of a barrier for the rest of you Let's hope it's gonna work well and I ll be able to enlighten a little more on this side of bands. So, I ll start little by little to fill this post with details on these bands.
PS: Hal, stay tuned for this post because I m sure you will find some interesting bands from punk/garage era in the 1970s-1980s

I ll start off with a band which broke the borders within the regional (and limited) market of Greece. It was Socrates (drank the Conium) born from the ashes of Persons in early 1970s. Below you can read their history and how they developed to become the most famous, acknowledged and international Greek rock band of that era comparing to other Greek bands which stayed within Greece.
[there are some mp3 samples that you could listen to I think. I dont know if these are complete songs or sample mp3s but it worths the try]
Discography: Albums (1971) Socrates Drank the Conium (1972) Taste of Conium (1974) Phos (1976) On the Wings (1980) Waiting for Something (1981) Breaking Through (1983) Plaza
They split up after this last album. And in 1995, 1999, and 2005 they made reunion gigs in Athens for all their fans. They still play whenever they feel like it in festivals and Gigs.

Not bad. The MP3s on the site were not of very good quality, but they got the message across. There was definitely a strong Cream / Hendrix influence there in the rockin bluesy jamming.
The kind of music I've been losing my hearing to for years now!

I just checked Amazon.com and you can pretty much order several of those old Socrates CDs from there. Looks like you can buy just about CD no matter how obscure!
