*WARNING* Disturbing subject-matter ahead...

Going on the topics posted about horror movies, it's pretty apparent that we've got some folks here that quite enjoy that genre of films. I know I do, and I've seen all kinds of horror flicks down through the years. There's one that never quit bugging me though, and that movie is called Clownhouse. It didn't bug me because of the intended "horror" of it (though I understand that there are people who really are deathly afraid of clowns), but rather the direction of it.

I don't know a thing one about movie-making, but I like to think I have a pretty good grasp on story-telling from my own working on comics and short-stories. I tend to think that when seeing a movie, reading a book, listening to a song, whatever it is, that more often than not you can understand the person or persons who made it by "reading between the lines". Clownhouse really struck a nerve with me when I saw it over 10 years ago because of several points in the movie.

If you've seen the movie, then you'll understand what I'm about to describe. Basically, the focus of the movie is supposed to be a young boy's fear of clowns...however, there were too many eye-brow raising scenes in it that never set well with me. Within the first five or ten minutes of the movie, you see the young lad wandering his house, shirtless, the camera panning to his backside, and eventually a close-up of his bare feet. Not even a minute after that scene ends, you see the young boy's bare ass as he puts on his underwear, but before that you see his older brothers wandering the house in their undies as well.

Aside from the unsettling imagery of young guys dressed down, the movie then goes on to make I don't know how many references to dicks and/or male pubic hair. Then there's a scene of the young protagonist taking a bath...nothing really vulgar in the scene, but thinking back it was a scene the movie really didn't need.

I remember talking about the movie to a few people I knew back then who were into horror movies, and I said it kinda' struck me as odd, all the focus on the young boy, all the homo-erotic innuendo, etc. I got told I was full of shit, pretty much, and that I was reading too much into it. I thought that maybe they could be right. Just because I tend to focus on barefoot girls in my own stories, drawing close-up shots of their feet and/or the girl/s being dressed down, swinging the "camera" around to show their asses and other parts of their bodies, making the sexual innuendos and things...things like that, that perhaps I was just mistaken. Maybe this movie was indeed innocent, and it was just a bizarre coincidence that the same kinds of direction was used on telling a story about a young boy's fear of clowns.

Well, last night I was running searches on various things that were on my mind, and among them I figured I could run a search on this old movie...thinking maybe there's another person out there somewhere that was bothered by it for the same reasons I was. Or, perhaps finding out that I was in fact full of shit in thinking the things I did...

Sadly, not only did I find several sites that raised issues with the same things I did, reinforcing my original thoughts, but I found this link too:

Victor Salva...I never would've put two and two together seeing recent movies like Jeepers Creepers and to think he was the one who wrote and directed Clownhouse. I don't know about anybody else, but there is no way in hell that I'm gonna support a convicted child molester by paying to see his movies. Even sadder is knowing that the same child star that got so much focus in Clownhouse, very obviously Victor's object of desire as you watch the movie, is the same victim of this piece of human shit.

I just sat there stunned as I read the article, and wondered how in the hell nobody I talked to at the time even got a hint of the perversion that lied just barely beneath that film's outer appearance. I wish I were wrong in what I perceived back then...but now a man who was a child-actor once is scared for life by what a filthy pervert did to him. I can't see how the movie industry could keep such a degenerate like Victor Salva employed in the field.

I encourage anybody reading this to check the credits of movies before you pay money to see them, and if Victor Salva's name is anywhere within avoid that movie like a plague.

We talk about how we hate child-molsters and kiddy porn, well, now it's time to start backing it up. Boycott anything by Victor Salva. Hollywood has to understand that we as Americans are not going to support the "vision" of a waste of good air like Salva.

I remember the controversy the movie "Powder" stirred up when it came out years ago because of him and his past. "Jeepers Creepers" was probably his most recent movie I can think of and I actually saw it on cable yesterday and I had completely forgotten about Salva. There is a weird scene in that movie where the monster is smelling the protagonist's (a young college boy) clothes. Now I'm thinking...EWWWWWWWWW! [Puke]

I've noticed a few movie topics in this section. If you guys would like to discuss movies I've got my own movie forum which I created last week.

I missed the controversy surrounding Powder, and for that matter I've never seen the movie all the way through either. It just seemed too weird, what parts I did see of it on cable. One really disturbing part was Powder's watching some guy shower in the gym locker room. Now that I know the scum bag who's responsible for it, I know why a scene like that was in the movie.

I think his latest movie is Jeepers Creepers 2, which I haven't seen and never will now. It wouldn't surprise me if the sick fuck has another movie about to come out or already out.

Hello Lou -

You've performed a public service in pointing these things out; lamentably, much of it will go unnoticed or quickly shoveled under - which is what mainstream media has done to proctect Salva and those of his ilk for ages.

The particular movie at point here "Clownhouse" has been a cult favorite among the NAMBLA crowd, many of whom rejoice gleefully at what they see as "one of their own" making inroads into mainstream media.

If all that isn't enough, I have always - always been convinced that the movie itself was either inspired by (or some sort of sick salute to) the original clown-killer-molester, John Wayne Gacy.

The movie has garnered some great reviews and loyal followings from Sundance Film Festival and others, none of which I care to put any faith or following into, anymore.

Thanks for the great public service / post, Brother Lou, and for keeping your ear to the ground on behalf of the rest of us.

Thanks for the kind words Brother Ben. I've been telling everybody I know to start watching for Salva's name in movie credits before they pay money to see any movie from now on. I won't shut up about this either, and I'm hoping people are taking me seriously. I don't always like the agenda's and things pushed by Hollywood in the entertainment industry, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back...

That's an interesting line of comparison too Bro, the Clownhouse movie and Gacy. Knowing about Salva's sickness, I can't help but wonder if there may some sort of idolization he may have for Gacy now...

Spread the word everybody! We have to do what we can to let the always out-of-touch Hollywood know that we're not going to tolerate and support the work of that waste of sperm and egg named Salva.

And am I the only one here who really wonders about the 2257 double-standard in light of this madness? Here the government is worried about telling grown adults what they can and can't do on the internet... and yet a convicted child-molester is freely working in Hollywood, whose movies reflect his sickness, and it's all remaining legal and unscathed? How in the hell does this country manage that?!
