I have been constantly reading about this lately in newspapers and magazines, and despite being out for four years now, I have yet to hear any testimony about it. There are almost 9 million people that have a registered account on Second Life and about one out of fifteen accounts are used on a regular basis. This Second Life software seems over hyped, yet interesting at the same time. Has anyone here used it, and if so your thoughts?

I think the fact that no one has heard of it is proof enough that it's overhyped. I wouldn't have heard about it if I hadn't read about it in the newspaper
I'm actually heading to that link now to learn more about it,, you can simulate your own life with Second Life, have sex, walk around beaches and whatnot and even sell stuff in the virtual world for real money!

i've lost 2 friends to this and world of warcraft after watching them gain a lot of weight and/or lose their jobs and/or lose their women. it consumes them. Real life is far more stimulating.

Oh! Wait I think I have heard of this. It's pretty much another kind of MMOG right? I think it is kinda popular. It's just that I've heard about it outside the net, but not really from it.

Yikes. Now the guys that whine all the time about never getting any wimmen will really be sucked deeper into their own little world void of female companionship.

I hope not, and I doubt it. People feel unfulfilled enough as it is. The more they flock to these kinds of things the worse the feeling gets. There is no substitute for real live interaction, and the human animal needs it to survive.
On top of that, if it was any more well known, people would be ashamed to be involved with it. Image if people knew that you were ticking away precious hours of your mortal life not even playing a real video game... just running around and pretending to be someone you're not. Imagine people knowing you paid extra money so your character in the game could have a penis so you could make it have sex for you (the bigger ones cost more too). That's way more pathetic then I think people will stand to be.

From the sounds of it, I'd say it sounds pretty lame. At least with MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft, its a completely fantasy setting that tells a story and such, but a real life simulator? I don't even know what to say.

LMAO LeDaemon.
I've read about 2nd Life too. It was in a GQ article a few months back. Not my thing but I bet those that want a foot fetish video game would be pleasantly surprised. From what I read anything goes pretty much.

I've read this thread before but could'nt check 'Second Life' out coz my gig data allowance lapsed which then drops my broadband to dial-up speed which is so frustratingly slow ..... and I had to wait for the end-of-month for the reset... Well I've read the front page and what it is, but it looks gig-streaming hungry... Are any of you currently in this world? Would like to get some feedback from fellow Wu-sters on what it's like in there... I'm not too anxious/curious enough to explore it myself yet so.............
