Just wanted to know what kind of music and artists everyone here likes and hates. Mine:
Likes: Im really into underground rap/hip hop right now (big fan of Del tha Funky Homosapien, Hieroglyphics, Atmosphere, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, and The Roots to name a few). Older mainstream Rap like Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, and Dr. Dre. Tupac was ok I guess. As far as rock is concerned im a huge Metallica fan (Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Black Album, nothing after Black album). Boston, Queen, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Kiss. Oh I also like Hispanic music like Salsa. Good stuff.
Dislikes: Rap/Rock "fusions" like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Conveniently depressing stuff like Evanescence and Avril Lavigne. Pretty much modern rock in general. All the singers sound the same!!! In the 80's they all had a different sound to em...what happened? I also hate modern mainstream rap as it has gotten out of hand. Nothing but club music to make the teenies happy. No lyrical ability whatsoever by these posers, just talking about banging and blinging...
What do you all like?

Not much of a hip-hop or rap fan. I do like the Beastie Boy's, but don't care for any other rap related bands.
The rap/rock fusion seems to always link back to the Run-DMC/Aerosmith redux of "Walk This Way" in the mid 80's.
However, Suicidal Tendencies was mixing Rap/Talk/Rock/Metal/Punk in 1981 and don't receive much credit for it.
They still remain one of my favorites, along with the Misfit's (not too much on Danzig as a solo artist).
I do like Metallica, SuperJoint Ritual, ZZ Top, and a few choice 70's/80's bands that still tour. Cheap Trick being one. They are always a beer drinking good time show!
When I buy a CD, it is usually along the lines of loud, aggressive style music.

I'm not into rap, hip-hop, techno, heavy metal or newer country.
I am, however, a huge fan of: Reggae Oi Punk Ska (traditional 60's style, not so much the ska-punk stuff) Rockabilly Psychobilly Classic country (Hank Williams Sr., Hank Snow, Ray Price, Johnny Cash, etc.) Surf Rock-n-roll (the 50's stuff like Buddy Holly) Irish folk music (now this is serious beer-drinkin' music)
And how can I forget, what I refer to as, Truck drivin' music. Stuff like Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson, you know, 70's country. (I am a truck drivin' son-of-a-bitch for crissakes)

I'm really not that picky about types of music. I'll listen to whatever catches me. A lot of music I listen to is from the 70s, mostly rock, but that's just my favorite in general.

This is a copy and paste response from me from a topic similar to this one...
My favorite kinds of music are: Rock Punk Oi Southern Rock some Country some Techno some Industrial very little Rap
Favorite bands/musicians would include: Lynyrd Skynyrd Rollins Band David Allen Coe The Misfits Dallas Moore Prodigy Juno Reactor Iron Maiden Slayer System of a Down Black Flag Definite Hate Danzig Bootleg Bill Johnny Cash Ministry Samhain No Doubt Bloodhound Gang Public Enemy Orbital the list could go on and on...
Some favorite songs would be: The Unseen Rails Hail the New Dawn Box Sweet Home Alabama Swamp Music Tree of Life etc etc etc...
But to add to this list, I'm also pretty fond of video game soundtracks too. Not that J-Pop shit the Japanophile geek-a-nerds bust a nut over, but the really innovative and cool soundtracks to certain games. Some of those favorites would include:
Lords of Thunder (metal fans will be in hog heaven if they could hear this) Fatal Fury-Wild Ambition Ai Cho Aniki (just picture some of the weirdest techno you can imagine, only sounding cool, and this is what you get) Samurai Shodown I & II King of Fighters '97 (Esaka? is one of the coolest songs of all-time) Wario World (I have to find this on CD, this is some cool stuff) Giga Wing 2 Final Fight Streets of Rage 1 & 2 Ys Books I & II (Yuzo Kishiro was the man!) the list could go on and on...

I've been steering clear of this thread so far because I realize that posting the list of my favorite bands would likely exceed Wu's bandwidth. But since the conversation seems to have zeroed in on Journey, I'll just chime in and say that I'm a big fan, and that Steve Perry is easily amongst my favorite male vocalists of all time. The band's Frontiers album of 1983 turned out to be a major influence on my own songwriting, and it remains one of my favorites to this day. It was nice to see Journey namechecked here!
