I haven't gone to see a movie in the theater since "Shutter Island" earlier this year which I did enjoy. Everything out now is just a sequel, remake of an old movie, or based on a comic book or video game.
Can anyone recommend a movie they've seen in the theaters recently with the focus on telling an original story with a great script and quality acting and not drenched with CGI effects. Oh yes, and no limp wristed "modern day" VAMPIRES! I've basically these days been watching classic movies at home and finished up several of Alfred Hitchcock's from the 1950s this week. Certainly there's something out now for "grown up" audiences?

Go to Wal Mart and BUY 'Unthinkable'. It stars Samual Jackson in a role you would never think he would play. 'The Book Of Eli' is also off the fucking wall as one of the best movies I have ever seen! Not sure how those two movies did in theatres, we get new movies in other ways.

first of all, whats wrong with comid books second.. hmmm, the only movie i've seen recently that was new and wasnt a kids movie was grown ups and i have to say it was pretty good. there was alot of ad libbing and it was really funny. some of it fell flat but most had us laughing out loud.
as for kids movies.. if anyone cares.. toy story 3 was alot better than i expected. i am not an TS fan but it wasnt bad. airbender was pretty cool and, for some odd reason, my wife even liked it although my 7YO son was bored.

^^Inception does look good and if I do see it, try to see it via IMAX, but nothin' has really enticed me lately.
Shutter island was mind-boggling. I had it right up until (DeCaprios character) was assessed at the end and it had me thinkin' I was crazy , .
Sorry L.D, ain't been out to the movies in ages, so I guess I'd be no help here. *FootLlongSub Zero quietly shuffles sideways until out of the room*

Grown Ups I hear was hilarious from what I have heard. Get him to the Greek looked alright, had Jonah Hill in it. As for upcoming movies...none come to mind as of now. Hollywood is pretty slack

Grown Ups got some of the worst ratings, but I went and saw it with a friend the other day and it wasn't as bad as those ratings. Wasn't Sandler's best flick, but not his worst either.

Inception was amazing!!! I'm going to see it again. It was an adventure.
"The road" is out on DVD now. Another amazing movie. Be prepared to have an emotional reaction. I wasn't ok for a few weeks after. Couldn't sleep for a couple days after too. Simply amazing, especially if you're the intellectual type. It's like the book of Eli without the cartoon aspect. You'll understand if you watch it.

First off, sequels and remakes are great. Watch Toy Story 3, its amazing. And Iron Man 2 is incredible. Get Him to the Greek is pretty funny.
But yeah, there are plenty of movies out there. Like Grown Ups, with my favorites Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. There are lots of indie movies now, like Cyrus. But Inception is the only major big budget origanal movie coming out this summer.

Interesting, I´ve never heard this opinion before. Everybody I know (including myself) think that most remakes are a terrible thing. Planet of the Apes, The Pink Panther, Dune, The Time Machine, Solaris, Psycho...horrible remakes compared to the original movies.
