Did you see the follow-up with the dog owner's fiance? He seems to think that the guy could have let the dog go instead of choking him out.
As far as I'm concerned, if a dog attacks me and I get it on the ground, I ain't letting it get up to attack me again, that's for damn sure.

I´ve had dogs attack my son twice in the last years. The first time the dog bit my son into his arm and wouldn`t let go. The second time a dog tried to first bite my son and then started biting me. That time I had pepper spray and gave him a full blast into his face. I´ve never seen a dog run away that fast
He was in Japan in the war and so learned all this shit - dogs have a weak spot (their torso/legs) if one is on top of you, you pull their front legs apart and their guts will...well fall out on top of you, but you'll be alive
My uncle (his son) had a dog around his head once and he would not let go - so he got around the back of it and chocked it with its own collar until its eyes were bulging and it had to let go.
The stupid fucktard of an owner was screaming to let it go, so he did, but seriously? The life of a vicious dog is NOT equal to the life of a child...

Whoa, I guess "A mans gotta do, what a mans gotta do". I've never thought of chocking a dog out. Might keep that in my arsenal if I'm ever encountered in a similar if not the same situation.
I've been bitten a few times. When a dog confronts you, my mother just told me to remain still and it won't bite you. I was about 9 at the time and was confronted by a seemingly angry dog. I remained perfectly still and it bit me anyway. Hmmmmm do mothers really know best??? lol. Anyhoo just looking now and I see a faint scar from the incident.....
I'm not too sure if pepper spray is leagal in Oz. I'll look into it as there are alot of other creatures including crocs and venomous snakes that this might be useful in a sticky situation.

Yeah ok, sure thing. If a croc chomps down on me & proceeds with the death roll and there are people watching, I will not use it.

I can't believe people are saying the man should be punished for killing the dog. Not only was he protecting his son, but he was protecting himself. Plus, the owner didn't know the dog was roaming around freely. I hope the victim and his son sue the dog owners.

People who love animals to that extent are completely illogical. I'll just say it: a human life is of far greater importance than any other animal's life. If you don't think this, then set yourself on fire until you die in protest. Better than an animal dying.

I remember seeing on the news about year ago how a dog that ripped apart a baby that was in its crib. I'd like to hear the excuse these dog lovers had for that. I like dogs, but like Andy said, human life is far more important.
