Head on over to vote on who you think has the greatest guitar solo - Dimebag Darrell in "Cemetary Gates" vs Dave Gilmour "Comfortable Numb".

They post clips so you can reference or like me get lost in Youtube crankin on some Pantera videos!

I listened to them and both "Cemetery Gates" 3 times and "Comfortably Numb" once. The guitarist in Cemetery Gates (Dimebag) solo was a little too sporadic for me and tends to distract me from the vibe of the overall song, whilst Gilmour is more in synch with the notes and the mood of the song.

My vote goes to Dave Gilmour in 'Comfortably Numb' [Smile]

OK, full disclosure here. I'm a big fan of David Gilmour, so I might bring some bias here.

I listened to both solos carefully, and this is a what I came away with.

I honestly think that Dimebag is overall more technically proficient that David, but he lacks the subtle soul of David's approach. In a way this is almost like comparing apples to oranges because while Gilmour's style is firmly rooted in the blues scale, Dimebag comes from a newer, Metal based school.

It's close but I have to go with Gilmour.
