As pitchers and Catchers are about to report, I would like to go out on a limb and pick the six teams that will advance to the playoffs This is difficult to to predict..I have it down to a science..ok! boy I'm going to gamble here. [Jerkoff]

NL
1.Braves
2.CARDINALS
3 TIED for wild card either the CUBS,METS, GIANTS or DODGERS

AL
1.Yankees
2.Red Sox
3.TIED for wild card either the Angeles,Twins or A's

I'm divided for the wild card.I'll go out on another limb and say one of those teams will get the wild card [Eek!]

Whewww.. another surprise year in baseball!!!! The parody is killing me!!!! [Violent]

Hi Sasha, I don't have to tell you who's going to win the A.L. Central. I think the Angels and Yankees will be up there too.

N.L. probably the Braves, Dodgers and Houston or the Cards.

Sammmmmmmmmmmy Sossssssssssssssa!

Sorry everyone, got an O's fan here! And even if the team isn't the best, our ballpark still is! [Smile]

The Twins will win the AL Central. Even though they lost some people, they still have a strong farm system.

The O's will be the surprise team in the east.

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

Ramsfan: The Twins won't be able to get past the White Sox or the Tigers. Last year was the Twinkies best bet.

Patrick: Good luck with Sammy, I think the Cubs fans in Chicago gave him a raw deal. They used to adore him, then they broke bad on him. They are a bunch of idiots, believe me, Cub fans will want him back when they are in the Basement in June.

Sammy is a big mouth, and he will not get along with the other O's. He's already calling Camden Yards "his house". My suggestion is make him a D.H.

The Sox lost A LOT more power in their line up with Magglio Ordonez leaving.

The Twins still have a good pitching staff.

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

I think the Twins have a great pitching staff, but this is the Sox year. Our staff includes Freddy Garcia, El Duque, Jose Contreras, Orlando Hernandez, John Garland, Mark Buehrle and Shingo Takatsu. Our best in years.

Good luck, you guys have certainly owned us last few years.

To paraphrase Pedro Martinez, "The Twins have been my daddy"!

Hey hott3028...Ive been to both ballparks in Chicago.....Sox park was in kind of a scary part of town..Wrigley was AWESOME!!! Murphys Bleachers..Pour me another "old style ".Please!!

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

Sasha, "old style" is a nasty ass beer. I'll stick to Heineken. Wriggley is in a predominantly yuppie and gay neighborhood. Comiskey is nestled between the ghetto and a slum. Best place to watch a ball game in Chicago is on my couch -- with your feet on my lap [Cheers] .

Posted by Ramsfan (Member # 1996) on :

I think every year is the Sox's year in the AL Central. The Sox have a MUCH larger pay roll. At least by the amount of expectations put on the team every year, the Sox have more to lose. I think these last 3-4 years have really given the Twins fans something to cheer about unlike the majority of the 90's and part of this century. It is fun seeing the hard effort of building an once proud organization back to a respectable level pay off. I just hope the Twins make it to the next round in the playoffs and go from there. Now is the time for Twins to take the next step.

Posted by Sasha (Member # 1842) on :

I'm gonna call you "SOX"......The only reason I drank old stlye was I sat in the "bleachers" and hung out across the street at Murphys Bleachers. That beer sucked!.lol I'm a miro brew girl myself....

As for watching the game on your couch..Sounds good! The only thing I really like about baseball is getting drunk..Can I drink beer on the couch????...PS White sox do have the best uniforms in baseball.I think

I would love the O's to be the surprise team. Tired of 3rd and 4th since the dismantling of the 1997-98 teams. And as for Sammy being the DH... That means Raffy has to be at first and Gibbons in right. I dunno about that.

As for the Central... If Magglio is healthy, he'll add to Detroit's line up nicely. But I just don't see the Sox doing anything special. They tend fall apart worse than my American made car.

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

Patrick: Mags is gonna kick the Sox ass this year up in Motown.

Ramsfan: I cannot disagree with you.

Sasha: next time you come to chi-town email me. we will show you a great time! as much micro-brew as you want, we have some good ones nearby. Nice to hear you like the Sox' uniforms. Along with the Yankees, those pinstripes rule!

Posted by Ramsfan (Member # 1996) on :

It's going to be an interesting year in the AL Central. 3 evenly matched teams in the Twins, Sox and Tigers. Whoever starts out the season the hottest will be the winner of the division. The Tigers should be better. Kansas City should be good, but finish in the cellar.

With the Jays and Rangers struggling, they should at least finish in the top 3 in the league. With the O's acquisitions, they should be a contender with the Red Sox and Yanks. With Sosa in the mix, they should give both teams a run for their money. [Wink]

Ramsfan,

I can only hope the O's can do better than projected. Their starting pitching is the soft spot. So many young guys with "potential." Hopefully some of them make something of it this year.

I don't really care who makes the playoffs, as long as it isn't the L.A. Dodgers.

Sounds like the Twins a few years ago, until they got Eric Milton, Johan Santana, Kyle Lohse, Hector Carrasco and Joe Nathan. The Twins sure know how to make people succeed in the majors. Look at the kind of picther Eric Milton has turned into. He's a very dominant picher! 12-3 is an excellent year.

The Washington Nationals got a doozy in Cristian Guzman! He's one hell of a short stop. He'll be with them for a good 5 years.

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

Hey for you guys in the Baltimore/D.C. area. You should buy some Nationals stuff (Yearbooks, programs, hats, jerseys). Since it's the innaugural season, their saying those items are highly collectible.

I love baseball and 2005 should be great. Lets get this thread poppin' -- Not enough baseball fans amongst feet people?

Here I'l get you guys going with one word --

STEROIDS

Hott3028,

I am a baseball fan moreso than any other sport. There is no denying what the sport has meant to America over the years. Other pro sports have emerged, but still, the history and names baseball carries with it far surpass the NFL, NBA and that league that was once called the NHL. [Smile]

I agree.....(your key word is HISTORY)But the past is the past...Baseball doesnt come close to holding a candle to the NFL in the year 2005..

FOOTBALL understands that the FANS are the reason they are so successful..THEY PRODUCE A FAR SUPERIOR PRODUCT.

Baseball cant keep up with the times.....BOREING! Besides only FOUR teams have a chance every year...Ive been to CAMDEN YARDS Patrick..And YES!! Beautiful place to go eat RIBS at BOOG Powells take in a inning or two of the game and go get drunk.. Other than that its same thing from Dodger stadium to Fenway Park zzzzzzzzzzzz

I argue this with my Dad (total baseball freak)all the time..He still thinks every year the A's have a shot...lol..

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

Sasha -- The NFL's Salary Cap is brilliant and that is why their product is so hott. Every sport should adopt it.

Baseball needs to go back to when it was #1. The best way for them to do that is to understand the premium that is their history, names and records. With that being said baseball has to have a sense of exclutivity. Sorry Miami, Tampa Bay, Arizona, Denver. You never should have gotten those teams in the first place. Fold those teams, go back to 26 teams.

As far as those names -- Mark Mcguire, you are lucky you got your soiled record that stupid summer. The summer I told everyone those guys were juicin' it up. Bonds and Giambi should not even step onto the field this year. They are up to their necks in shit, but their egos wont give them the class to step down with dignity. Instead Bonds will break Hanks record, with the whole country snickering behind his back.

How about we start with preserving that history and those records until a true athlete can reach them.

I've only driven past Camden Yards.

Like most UNIONS..the players UNION sucks!!!! That why guys can sport PUMPKIN heads in the major league baseball and not be held accountable.. Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa make me sick. Frigin Sosa walks out on his team in the 5th innijng in the CUBS last game of the season last year..Joke...

Posted by Patrick (Member # 1169) on :

Bonds pisses me off with the racist stuff talking about how no one wants him to take the record because he is black. UM HELLO BONDS! AARON IS BLACK TOO! I used to think Bonds was intelligent, but let's look at his recent track record:

- "Didn't know" he was taking steroids
- Says no one wants him to have the record because he is black
- Accuses the media of stirring the pot

Maybe he is just dumb ass!

- Patrick

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

Bonds -- "It was just a cream, I didn't know what I was rubbing into my body"

The racist thing really gets me too Patrick, HE stirs that shit pot, not the press.

Bonds -- "Babe Ruth, he means nothing to me"

Posted by Patrick (Member # 1169) on :

Hott3028,

Yeah, if I rubbed cream on me, my balls shrank and all of a sudden did things 25% better, yeah, I'd think it was just flaxide oil too. What a buncha crap. I wish Giambi would have said the trainer told him that Bonds knew what he was doing.

- Patrick

So? What do you guys think of Big Mac's Crocodile tears? Do you think any of those other guys were lying? They made Canseco look like shit. And how about it, do you think they will put an * in the books now? It sounded like those politicians are pretty hard core.

And one last thing -- with all this scrutiny, Bonds has to retire just to save face, right?

And before all you right-wingers start in that government shouldn't get involved with private business, remember that the United States allows MLB to operate their monopoly. So in a way they should ultimately answer to the fed. Not to mention that they had 35 years to figure out what to do about this problem and they wiped their asses with it!

Posted by Sasha (Member # 1842) on :

I'm a Left Wing Liberal nut, so you know my take on this....Down with the Pumpkin heads and get back to playing ball...Ohhh yea.I'm a liberal who HATES unions..Down with the players union and put a frigin salary cap on baseball. Those dudes make way to much money to have a union... Unions..people grabing their piece of the pie..I hate the concept! Thats for another thread!

Go Dodgers and A's!!!!!!

Posted by tasm (Member # 3081) on :

A cap would improve it greatly, but remember in the early 90's and the 80's when it was competative and football was still more popular.I read in tv guide in about 1989 or 90 that the u.s population prefered football to baseball 2 to 1.

Posted by Sasha (Member # 1842) on :

I agree tasm. basebll is boreing and there are to many friggin games..FOOTBALL RULES!!

Posted by Ramsfan (Member # 1996) on :

They should cut down the season to 81 games.

Posted by Patrick (Member # 1169) on :

Ramsfan,

Hell no! Don't cut nothing. Baseball is 162 games. You cut that stuff back to 81 games, Bond can only hit 60 homeruns a season then... you know, when he's unaware that he's using steroids.

Seriously though, I like baseball better than football. I agree that the excitement and thrill is higher in football, but after the Colts packed up when I was 5 years old, the Orioles were the only game in town. I love them and always will. I love the Ravens too, afterall, Lauryn's wearing my Todd Heap jersey there. But if I had to pick one or the other, I go with baseball.

Any of you baseball fans see how PATHETIC Barry Bonds was the other day? I hope he quits!!!! Idiot brings his teenage son up to the podium for while he was grilled by the press.PATHETIC.

Poor example of ACCOUNTABILITY

Posted by hott3028 (Member # 3839) on :

I think this is his way of bowing out "gracefullly". MLB probably is giving him some ca$h and asking him to retire. Even Barry realizes he wiill be viewed as a fraud if he breaks the Bambino's record so he's saving face. Mark my words, he's got plenty of money, he'll never play in this country again. Watch him go to Japan.

Posted by Patrick (Member # 1169) on :

He's a dick! One that Sahsa wouldn't even like. Heehee... Sorry darling! I think he breaks the record next year. This is just a ploy to get the media off of the game's pampered player.

- Patrick

what does everyone think about canseco opening his mouth and tellin everyone he used steroids and pointing his finger at barry bonds, mark mcquire, sammy sosa, etc. its real sad thast these players care more about making money and breakin records than they are about caring about their fans.

GO BLUEJAYS

I don't know about any steroid use, but I know that the Res Sox are in first place now after the Orioles lost three games in a row to the Braves!!!

Whooopieeeee!!!!

Hello feetlover -

At first I thought all that Canseco stuff was just one big idiot spouting off (a lot true but a lot of exageration). Add that to the late Ken Caminiti claiming that everybody in the world was on steroids and I thought it was just two big idiots spouting off (minus one now because Ken's dead).

THEN - some tougher but still lax testing procedures began and with a pretty thin net they started reeling in players on steroids .. MINOR leaguers on steroids and Pitchers on steroids - PITCHERS!

That got me to thinking maybe a lot of us had over-simplified the fact that Canseco is a big dumb idiot with a big mouth. Well, ok - all those things may still be true about him; but I'm taking him a little more seriously these days, viewing some of his more fantastic claims as maybe not so unthinkable.

Samy Sosa - well, when a guy puts on thirty pounds of muscle between season's end and spring training, goes from a good power hitter to one of the greatest ever in later stages (and the shape of his head changes), you have to wonder. I don't know, maybe it's just that he's got Cork in his head as well as his bat.

Hey, come to think of it, maybe Canseco had Cork in his head! Remember the way that ball BOUNCED off his head and into the stands for a home run? I mean, that ball BOUNCED off his head.

Respectfully,

Ben

Hehehee... I remember that Ben...

You raise a good point about steroid use: Since they started doing even the most cursory tests, they have found a lot of players on steroids and performance-enhancing drugs.

Posted by Ben Del Amitri (Member # 2724) on :

Hello Mr. Vasduten -

You hit the nail on the (canseco) head! The word "cursory" is what really says it all; and if you can reel in as many steroid users under those standards there's got to be a lot going on.

Funny that it never (ever) would have occured to me that pitchers would be using steroids. Right here in Seattle, they've already netted four or five minor leaguers. They've avoided testing some of the high profile "golden boys" out here, such as Brett Boone (another of those who put on huge amounts of muscle mass in an off season).

Can you imagine what they'd find if they started some SERIOUS testing? It's really making me wonder now.

Respectfully,

Ben

yanks are out this year so all you yankee fans pack it up and say goodbye to them. they will finish behind the jays this year.jays should be contenders down the stretch as long as their pitching staff picks up the momentum and follows halladay.
