How many of you think you will put on weight due to this COVID-19 pandemic? The reason why I say that is because some places are hit really hard with the virus and needs to go under "Shelter in Place". Therefore, you can't go workout at the gym anymore. Consequently, not working out at the gym can easily to atrophy of the muscle and more fat flab around the midsection.

Luckily for me, I am a member of 24 Hour Fitness and they offered members an app which allows them to do exercises at home. I get to take Zumba classes at home for free through the app.

You don’t need a gym to work out or exercise. Do planks and jumping jacks at home. Life gallons of liquid or heavy cans as weights. There’s many options.

you get fat because you eat too much, not because you don't work out

Well, even if you don't eat too much you can still get fat from not exercising. I mean if you lose the muscle it will get replaced by fat. That's why so many professional athletes gain fat when they retire.

Listen, I'm a gym rat and decided to come to terms with it. I'm looking at this as a nice break for my body. Yeah, I've noticed plenty of muscle loss but it is what it is. I'll just have to start again when the gym opens back up.

Perhaps I don't care as much since I'm already married and don't need to impress anyone but I'm not freaking out about it.

As someone mentioned, the biggest crime is over eating at home as that will add plenty more fat to deal with when you eventually get back to the gym. The best thing you can do if your truly shutting down the workout is eat less to reduce the amount of fat you put on during this time.

You don't feel the need to impress your wife?

I've been very self controlled.

I'm normal weight to underweight, even though I don't exercise as much as I nearly should.

I've probably eaten too many fried foods and burgers since this happened.

However, in regard to the sweets, the only one I keep in the house is ice cream. I don't eat cookies, cake, pie, etc. Some years ago I was quite a bit overweight, found out I have high BP, dropped almost 30 lbs in 3-4 months, and kept it off.

Today while shopping, I went right past the shelves of cake, pie, and cookies, and did not buy anything. The only thing I bought was my usual snack, a tub of ice cream, that usually lasts me 1=2 weeks. I'll eat 1 1=1=2 scoops a day, twice a day, and sometimes drink sugar iced teas if they dont have the diet. Besides that, I have not given in to this situation. I know that if I break down and have even a personal apple pie or a small package of cookies, I will start eating them non stop. Thus, I'm exercising self control.
