Of the main candidates currently tossing their names into the race,

Republicans:
John McCain & Rudy Giuliani

Democrats:
Hilary Clinton & Barack Obama

Perhaps I should have thought about other names, instead of the four top current candidates - Mitt Romney, who would be our first Mormon president, put his name in this week. Chris Dodd, who only has a fractional percentage in current USA Today polls. Newt Gingrich and Sam Brownback are also among the top Republican vote getters (third; 9%, and fifth: 3% respectively. Don't get me wrong, though, there are still nearly two years left and much room for change in fluctuation, I am just so excited that George W. Bush will no longer be in the White House, and this election will mean much more for me than the much-hyped '04 Election.

I say this only because I know a majority of the Country are not ready for a Women or a Black President.

It's just reality. It SUCKS!!!!!!!! But, it's reality. Fly over states.

I think the best chance the Dems have is a Ticket of John Edwards with O bama as his running mate.

Look for Edwards to come out of the woodwork, soon.

I'll take the Clintons. We get two intelligent and experienced people for one vote with Hillary. I think Bill was a good president and would be a great advisor for "Hill baby". Plus, I can't stand Republicans any more!

Let me put it this way:
1-Obama. he will not win, why? two words for you " Middle States". A buch of races and jesus freaks.
2- Hilary. let me quote, again, a middle state person " i'm not voting for no woman". fucking savages.
3-John McCain. too old and no one wants to vote for another old Republican guy.
4- giuliani. this is the one i like, no too conservative nor too liberal and has balls, he fought with everyone here in N.Y. he did whatever He and only he, thought it was right; and he was right. but, again the middle-i like to have sex with my sister-states will not vote for a Italian.

Note: if the Democrats put Hilary or Obama as their candidate, they will loose, an already won, election to the republicans.

those, my friends are my crazy opinions. see you.

I'm from Illinois and I really take offence to the "middle states" and "savages" comment. I'm not sure what your defintion of middle states is, but it comes off in a very stuck up, "I'm better than you" attitude. Why is it that people from the east coast honestly think they are better than the rest of the country? Its pathetic, really. By the way, Obama, he's from this state, pretty sure he would win here.

I wish babeflover would better define which states are these oh-so-terrible "middle states". I can't help but think I probably live in one of them. [Confused]

The cosmopolitan areas (hip cities with diversity) are good (for money), but those are not the people you have to convince, it's those simple folk with simple wants and needs --not neccessarily Hollywood or NYC. These are the places you have got to roll up your selves and get right down to the heart of the matter with no pretense.

Obama is new, fresh ideas and come across very well to everyone. You can't help, but like him. The media loves him. He is similar to Bill Clinton in that respect. He is a sleeper and someone to keep your eye on (don't blink).

Clinton is the been there done that candidate and the only one to have seen it from the other side(campaign trails x 2 with hubby, First Lady x 2, won NY as a non NYer). Her past blunders in politics may haunt her, but she has what Obama doesn't and that is long money. She can saturate the air waves with commercials galore. Oh, and she has Dollar Bill in her corner. Bill still can move a crowd like no other.

Edwards is not bad, but he is missing something. He needs a confident image (not a cocky one) to convince people that he can do the job. It's like there is something missing in the soup to make him really stand out.

McCain is old and comes across with nothing major for putting the country back on a solid global ground with other global powers (war isn't everything) and fixing our country's concerns. A good image with solid methods that work pays well in the long run. Also, the republicans have taken a beating.

Guiliani has been tested and turned around a crime heavy city; that is worth noting in my book. Being from the east coast (NYC) may hurt him in those rural areas. Rural people are honest hard working people who aren't up for a lot of rhetoric and BS. You can get away with that in NYC if you have style points. People have to believe and trust him on other issues (besides the war). There are other concerns out there you know.

I don't know what to say about John McCain. His views today have changed considerably since he ran against Bush in 2000. First of all, John McCain was opposed to the Bush tax cuts back in 2001. Today McCain whole-heartedly is in favor of them. Also, McCain today would overturn the Roe v. Wade decision. In a 1999 interview, he expressed the opposite. He has such a strong stance on the war and feels that Bush's 21,500 trop surge wasn't enough.§If you are republican at least have the sanity to vote for Giuliani - the man has a better scope on politics than McCain. Giuliani does not support gay marriage but supports civil unions (Obama's perspective is pretty similiar) Giuliani is as honest as a politican can be. Unlike "Dubya," the former mayor of New York feels America needs someone tough, but that is also human. Bush is a pretty stubborn man in politics and won't admit a single wrong. Giuliani along with his decorated résume exerting toughness and bravery on the morning 9.11, his eight years of reducing crime in New York City, can see himself as a human being. Giuliani, on a recent Larry King Live made it bold that we will know when Giuliani would make a mistake. United States president George W. Bush, however, cannot, as he seemingly is extending our this war until the new leader takes over. It's also ashame that the Bush Administration is steering clear of using the term 'civil war' to describe the situation in Iraq.

Also, McCain dubbed Donald H. Rumseld as the worst Defense Secretary the U.S. ever had. That seems kinda outta line for him to say that. Vice President Dick Cheney wants an apology out of the Arizona senator.

I'm not going to get into why I think Giuliani won't be the guy, I don't think he will
The most marketable guy for the Dems I think is still Jon Edwards with O Bama as his running mate. Baby steps people, baby steps. I really think the nation can be sold on a black VP at this point. I don't think O Bama is ready to be President, yet.

However, I really believe the majority once they get behind the curtain will vote for a white man over a Black or a women.

It's a fucked up reality that I don't buy into. But, the majority of the nation I believe isnt ready.

Sasha, of all the Democratic candidates, I prefer John Edwards the best. I think he is a true old time Democrat, and cares about the middle class.
The problem I see is this: Unless the primaries play out differently then one might expect, Hillary has a huge war chest of money , the Clinton machine, and Bill's braintrust behind her. The question is: Can Edwards grab momentum, away from a candidate who has such noteriety, and a team, like Hillary will?
One never knows how it will play out. I will say that whether it is Hillary or Edwards, I hope whoever the candidate is, that they put Obama on the ticket with them. He is ready to be VP, and, hopefully, when he gets some experience, can run for president, and have a good chance to win after he would serve as VP.

I like what Edwards's prophesy of universal health care for all Americans. There are 47 million uninsured U.S. citizens right now and I am one of them. A source to fuel universal health care, he says, would be to eliminate the Bush tax cuts. Now, Rudy Giuliani says that these tax cuts have provided fuel to our robust economy. If Americans were to be without the tax cuts what would that mean?

Posted by lambskin (Member # 1542) on :

Another source to pay for universal health care is to eliminate or seriously cut back the profession that made Edwards a multi-millionere...and that is malpractice trial lawyers. This country will never be able to afford universal health care with the current medical malpractice system. If you look to Canada and any European country with universal health care, they don't have an overburdening malpractice system. Right now the cost of malpractice insurance is over 100K a year for many physicians because of all the needless suits and the lottery like awards handed out. Also, physicians are held to a damn near impossible standard of care, prompting the ordering of thousands of unnecessary tests in order to avoid the possibility of the lawsuit.

Also, if people want universal health care, be prepared to sacrifice. In Canada, you can be in a city of a half million people and have a heart attack and be unable to receive a cardiac catheterization immediately(the standard of care for treatment). In this country we are used to getting things and getting it now and it is not so in a country with universal health care. When I lived in Detroit, I heard of many people crossing over the boarder from Canada to get studies (CAT scans) and treatments that would take months to get in Canada.

My point is, that I think universal health care is a great idea, but will take a huge amount of change in many different areas. You can't sue individual doctors for $200 million dollars and turn around and expect them to provide low cost health care to the over 300 million people in this country. Also, be prepared to wait longer to get things done in that type of health system. Finally, Canadians pay around 40% of their income to the government for federal and providence taxes to help pay for that system. And that's most Canadians, not just the upper class.

So far I'm not liking any of the front runners. Rudy is way too moderate, Hilary is well Hilary, Obama seems like a decent guy but he is way too much of a populist(Universal healthcare? Come on!), McCain is too moderate. Edwards I just don't like for some reason (maybe because he teamed up with that jackass John Kerry, "I voted for the war before I voted against it"lol) Hopefully a libertarian-leaning conservative gets into the thick of things, because that's who I would vote for. Although it seems doubtful.

As a Repulican I should go with MCCAIN

I would vote for Hilary if her last name was anything but Clinton, even though she's a Democrat. So I would vote for Obama he seems the most likely to win and covers many key issues.

Bush has let the Republican party down with the war and this "new security crackdown" risking many young lives for oil and land.

None of those candidates is someone I'd vote for.
I am not a republicrat or democan. Those parties are both F*CK UP. What this country needs is a 3 party system.
Bottom line: You all will vote for those who nuture your core belief.
Democrats = Big Government; we'll take care of you but, we have to raise taxes.
Republicans = Small Government; Cut taxes but, you're on your own and well, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.
Hear is a question that falls under the catagory of, "Why do we park in a driveway but, drive in a parkway"
When 9-11 happened, we decided to go after the murdering SOBS that did this to us, remember? Then, we took a wrong turn and went into Iraq. Now, we're stuck in a Civil War but, I digress.
Anyway, we are on the offense, "Taking it to the enemy", "We'd rather face them there than here", but...now this is a crucial but...we leave our borders WIDE OPEN!!!
Think about this: Your house just got robbed. You decide to invest in home security, alarms, etc. but, you leave your back door un-locked. Sounds ridiculus but, that's what's happening.
This is who I will vote for: Any one of those aforementioned candidates says, "I will close the border" has got my vote. That's my main concern.

Honestly, this wouldnt suprise me a bit! Those two have gotten away with everything else, including "fixing" the last election! I am sure whomever wins, it will be exactly who President Bush and his buddies want to win. I am sure its already decided now(seriously). The election will be just for the media, and just one more way to make the American people "look" like they are in control. If you havent noticed folks.....money wins nowdays....If you arent a multi-billionare, you dont exist.
So if you wonder which cantidate I favor the most.... the poorest one. Do I think they will get elected.....not a chance in hell!

Sorry for the poll leaving out a lot of candidates. When I set this up back in February, I selected the four I thought were the strongest at the time .New names have emerged and John McCain, expected to be one of the Republican front-runners fell flat on his face as far as finances are concerned. Maybe I should do a new poll once the primaries come around the corner. I will for sure do a updated poll when we discover who the Democratic and Republican nominees are.

I'll vote for either Edwards or Obama in the primaries. I'm suspicious and mistrustful of Ms. Clinton -- she doesn't articulate many of her policy positions, and I hate her yes votes on the war. I want to see our troops out of Iraq, and we need to finish the job in Afghanistan. Alas, it doesn't look like Edwards has much of a chance since the corporate media is screwing him out of the attention that he needs to get votes.

None of the Republicans are acceptable to me. All seem to further endanger the separation of church and state, which, in my mind, is a central pillar of our country. Every Republican seems to want to repeal Roe vs. Wade, which must not happen. McCain is too much the warmonger, and anti-choice, but he is the best of the bad lot of the GOP. Romney and Huckabee are far too religious for me, and Guliani is a slimy used car salesman, cross-dressing aside. He didn't do much anything for NYC during 9-11 except pose and look brave. It was the firefighters, police and paramedics who are the real heroes of that dark day, especially those who died, not these Republican fear-mongers and Jesus-freaks.

Oh, yeah, about Ron Paul -- he's a closeted white supremacist and KKK supporter. Google his name+"white supremacist" and see how many hits you get. I could never support anyone like that.

I voted for Obama in your poll, but if Clinton is the Dems' nominee than I will hold my nose and vote for her. I may not like her, but any progressive agenda has more chance during her presidency than it does under any Republican.

I'd say let's have Hilary be the nominee and Barack as the VP, but their tensions as of late makes me think she will select Edwards - but if we have a Hilary-Obama ticket for '08, let's see Hilary have two terms, and then Obama run in 2016 and have him govern our nation until 2024 with Hilary as his VP. That would translate to a Clinton being in the White house for 24 of 32 years. Sound unfair? Only fair game - there's been a Bush in the White House now for 20 of the last 28 years.

Gotta defend my man Ron Paul. A writer named Lew Rockwell wrote the allegedly racist articles on the basis of which Ron Paul is being accused of being a racist. The president of the Austin chapter of the NAACP has been friends with Paul for 20 years and didn't believe the words of this ghostwriter represented the beliefs of Ron Paul. He also agrees with Ron Paul on a lot of issues. I don't believe Ron Paul is racist, but, if he were, I don't think he would let it affect his determination to act in accordance with the Constitution, and the country would be better off with him as President. But he isn't a racist.

Obama is going thru a bit of a tough time right now with the video of his ex pastor surfacing on youtube. But if Hillary can't get her way and get Florida and Michigan to get seated at the convention then she is toast. She'll have to suck a lot of c### for that.Seriously though it seems to me that people now are making their decisions not on the viablity of the candidate but sadly on who they don't want...therefore voting against someone rather than for someone, just my 2 cents worth

Yeah, that is the cowardly way out: vote for someone you don't really want just because you don't think your favorite can win. I'll vote for who I like, even if I don't think he has a whelk's chance in a supernova.

Hillary is on a power trip. She's an admitted socialist and frankly she scares the hell out of me! This country needs a leader that will fix our economy and do the bidding of "The People" not follow a personal agenda.

i agree. i also feel like is she wins, this country will have been led by 2 names only, for the last 20 years. bush or clinton.
I ALWAYS TELL THE LADIES"SHAVE YOUR PRESIDENT BUSH OR THERE WILL BE NO HILLARY CLIT LICKIN!"
if not for me, do it for your country. =)

Actually, solessquirters if Hilary wins come November, there will be a period of at least 32 years where there have been either a Bush or Clinton in the White House(if Hilary finishes four years following a win)

1980-88: George H.W. Bush as Vice President
1989-93: George H.W. Bush as President
1993-00: Bill Clinton as President
2001-08: George W. Bush as President
2009-12: Hilary Clinton as President

Something tells me our founding fathers wouldn't be down with the name repetition.
