Just curious. There probably won't be, and no posts in my topic...but it's worth a shot. [Smile]

Good deal. I like all of those bands too. Sodom and Slayer especially. I just got the "Agent Orange" album from Sodom and am very impressed.

I used to be in to that when I was in school years ago but I can't dig it anymore.

More in to prog/rock...Dream Theater. etc.

Basically any band or singer that knows what their doing.

I like some death metal stuff like Cradle of Filth. I also like Slipknot, Korn and stuff like that. Although not death metal still pretty heavy.

More into hardcore and straight edge, but I also like the early albums of DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Prong, Carcass, Napalm Death, etc.

Good to see some fans of metal in here (Besides Slipknot and Korn....not metal)... I also enjoy a lot of prog metal (I.E. Dream Theater, etc) and Carcass and Napalm Death. I like just about everything, but my favorite bands are bands like Opeth, Amporphis, Cryptopsy, etc.

There`s a cool guy at my work who listens to Death Metal. Every other day he would be wearing a different tshirt or long sleeve with a band-logo on the front. I can never read the names of the bands [Smile] (they all look like your avatar, SoleLove2)

Ahh,

D.R.I, Suicidal, Slayer! Good tunes! I am very much a metal person.

I am not too much into the newer music though, although I think Shadow's Fall is a good band.

The newest hard metal that I personally like is SuperJoint Ritual. I still listen to Suicidal almost daily.

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

Yeah, I also like your Misfits shirt [Wink]

Some new stuff I listen to is From Ashes Rise, Tragedy, Dillinger Escape Plan, Disfear (members of Entombed), The Now Denial, Give Up The Ghost (ex-American Nightmare), The Haunted, Cursed...
(but I guess that`s more hardcore/underground than true Death Metal)

*sigh*

Was expecting at least _one_ fan of Cryptopsy.

Thanks, I originally had just the Fiend as my avatar, but Calli did a set for me in that shirt so I thought it looked much better with her in it!

She sent me the shirt, which I now where to most metal shows I go to.

Sorry man, I must admit that I haven't heard of them? I will look them up and check em out! I'll let you know what I think!

*grin*

You have to like some pretty brutal stuff, this is what most people call "grunting music" [Big Grin]

I was pretty well known in the scene years ago, but I gave up my label and zine around 94. I don't listen to it much anymore, but every once in a while I pop in Bolt Thrower, Terrorizer, Morbid Angel, and Sepultura. I have lots of great memories from back in the days.

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

That`s cool.
Was it a Death Metal zine/label? I also used to run a large label and a mailorder for books and thousands of zines... (but I can`t remember having any Death Metal zines in stock)

Terrorizer are brilliant!

I am more of a hardcore fan than death metal but I listen to decapitated, all shall perish, cryptopsy, suffocation a fair bit.

My favourite band is black flag btw.

Posted by SoleLove2 (Member # 3004) on :

Awesome! I love Decapitated and Suffocation. Cryptopsy is awesome, too. I havent heard any All Shall Perish, though.

I also like Morbid Angel like rhbdz17 said.

@ Dreaming

Black Flag are awesome. Have you seen them live? (you know they re-united).
I´m also more into hardcore than metal. What other bands do you like?
Just saw Converge a few days ago, loved them.

Hal - Yes, it was a death metal/thrash zine. I started out doing interviews for my own zine and before long, I got to know just about everyone in the scene.

The story that always sticks out is the time Sepultura stayed at my house the first time they came to the U.S. They thought Burger King was a classy restaurant. They didn't believe in showering very often either. After they left my place to go on tour, I found that Max had left his Batman underwear covered in excrement under the bed. Bastard.

Solelove - Suffocation: I was friends with those guys, but I hated their music. They used to tell me that they really respected my opinion because I panned their record even though I was friends with them.

Hardcore: I loved the Cro-Mags

[Thumbs Up]

I never had any Death Metal bands at my house, except people from Entombed. They even showered [Wink]

@SoleLove2 - Check out All shall perish, they rock.

@ Hal - I haven't seen the re-united black flag, no. [Cry]

Other bands I like are champion, bad brains, cro-mags, hoods, converge, terror, piece by piece, comeback kid, knuckledust. stuff like that.

Posted by StevenPHH (Member # 3398) on :

I'm mostly in to hardcore as well; Bad Brains, Minor Threat, SSD, Slapshot, Sick Of It All....

But I do like my share of death metal, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse.....

And Black Metal; Marduk, Immortal, Dimmur Borger....

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

Minor Threat are rad. Just saw Ian MacKaye`s new band a few weeks ago.

Hey Hal, I know that some members re-united for a special show/small tour to raise money or awareness for some cause (that I can't remember.)

Which members are together now and do you know if they have plans on touring? I know that Dez is playing with the current version of the Misfit's.

I saw Black Flag back in 83 in Boston. (holy crap am I old)

Converge are an a amazing band.

Check out For The Worse, my new favorite HC band.

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

@ DJ

I think Black Flag aren`t planning on touring, though they did come over to Europe last year. Not sure if all the members are from the original line up, but Henry Rollins was on vocals.
The good cause was to benfit a cat rescue program (or was it to benefit the West Memphis Three?)
Do you know those two Black Flag tribute LPs?
One is called "Black on Black" and has new hardcore bands covering Black Flag (bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, American Nightmare...), then there is another album called "Rise Above" with Iggy Pop, Chuck D, Ice T, Lemmy from Motorhead, etc. -- Both albums are cool!

@ Steven

You saw Black Flag live in 83? [Thud] Wow, I was still listening to Boy George those days... [Big Grin]
Yeah, Converge are incredible live. One of the best live bands at the moment.
I´ll ask my neighbour about The Worse, he has all the latest stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of CoF.

Old Mayhem... I prefer newer, because old Mayhem is awful. Really, really awful. I heard Deathcrush and cringed.

Satryicon is cool.

I absolutely LOVE Opeth. They're by far my favorite band. My Dying Bride also rocks, but not as much as Opeth does.

Most of the other bands you mentioned i've heard of, but no songs i can remember.

I'm a huge metal fan. (Death metal, black metal, doom metal, power metal) I enjoy alot of the bands mentioned in here too.

I'm into mostly older rock, but I have some of the old school death metal from the 80s. Never was a huge fan of it as opposed to other music, but I had Slayer, Possessed, and Venom in the collection.

I really loved the first few Candlemass albums that were released back then too. I guess that is filed under "doom" metal though. So many classifications...

Posted by footspy (Member # 2112) on :

I feel like I have to interject here but I saw this thread come back to life and I was going through it and I saw several people list Slayer as death metal bands that they like. Slayer is not a death metal band. They're a thrash metal band.

Posted by russ (Member # 10866) on :

I am bad at the classifications, but the metal bands i like are..opeth, neurosis, high on fire, pig destroyer, acid bath and a few others.

lately i'm really digging sludge metal (i've heard some of these bands described as doom too, i'm not too sure what the difference is) like eyehategod, electric wizard, bongzilla and the melvins (idk if you all would classify them as metal really, but they rock hard!)

I've never heard of High On Fire, Acid Bath, Electric Wizard or Bongzilla but the others are all metal. Although I think The Melvins may be classified as Nu Metal which shouldn't really be metal in the first place.

Electric Wizard and High On Fire rule!

And Neurosis are amazing, too...especially live.
(at least their old albums...haven`t heard any of their newer stuff)

Im heavy into Pantera lately..not sure where you would want to classify them under(RIP Dimebag Darryl).
I saw someone mention Prong..big fan of the "Snap your Fingers, Snap your Neck" song. Got me through 16 hour days working out west blaring that in my iPod!

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

Are Prong still around? I have their very first album from 1987 ("Primitve Origins") and that was amazing for it`s time. More hardcore than metal, though.
