A lot of music lovers here, so I want to see what your absolute favorite bands/artists are and why. Here's my top 5, and why I like them:

1. Led Zeppelin
Fav Song: Since I've Been Loving You
Love Robert Plant's voice and Jimmy Page's guitar. Can't go wrong with John Bonham on drums (R.I.P). The best band ever, in my opinion.
2. Mos Def
Fav Song: Definition
Favorite rapper ever. Has an almost organic feel to his rhymes, it comes so naturally and poetic it's scary. He weaves his rhymes and lyrics with an ability I have yet to see in any other artist, rapper or rocker alike.
3. Common (Sense)
Fav Song: I Used to Love H.E.R.
Maker of the best hip hop song ever continues to deliver. Like Mos Def, his flow comes so natural you cant help but appreciate it. Comes from the heart, not from the wallet.
4. The Doors
Fav Song: Riders on the Storm
Classic American band, from how they sounded to how they acted. Jim Morrison had an awesome almost creepy and haunting voice. R.I.P Jim.
5. The Eagles
Fav Song: Hotel California
Sound as good live as anywhere else. Owners of the best selling album ever. Cant get sick of their songs, be it Desperado, Witchy Woman, or of course, Hotel California.

Honorable Mention: Jay-Z, Styles of Beyond, Mr. Lif, Metallica, Depeche Mode, Mr. Lif, Foreigner, Bone Thugs N Harmony

Edit: Forgot some! The Beatles, Rush, Journey, ZZ Top, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G., Aerosmith

There's mine, just wanted to see everyones insights on music, and maybe even try out bands or artists that I have not seen before. Always looking for good music. [Thumbs Up]

1. The Beatles
They were the first band I got into as a kid and have never tired of their music. They were so influencial to everything during their time and to musicians that followed. I can't pick just one favorite song.

2. Led Zeppelin
When I got older the Mighty Zep was the next band that I just totally immersed myself into. The four musicians complimented each other PERFECTLY in the studio and on stage!
Fav Song: Dazed and Confused

3. Rush
Rush was the band I gravitated to after I competed my Zeppelin catalog collection. They are all extremely gifted technical musicians and Peart is one of the greatest rock drummers ever. Geddy's vocals are grating on all non fans, but he does deliver the message in Peart's lyrics which is more important than the quality of his singing.
Fav song: Free Will

4. Black Sabbath
Tony Iommi is the guitarist that influences my own guitar playing the most. I consider Sabbath my "medicine" music. Whenever I'm feeling down in the dumps I put on Vol. IV and crank it. Very theraputic!
Fav song: N.I.B.

5. Iron Maiden
This is the band I have seen in concert (6 times) more than any other group. I got into Maiden back in high school (around '82) when they were an up and coming band. They had interesting lyrics that were influenced by novels, movies, history, rather than the usual "cock rock schlock" that was typical of most 80's metal bands. The singer Bruce also has a great onstage charisma that works a crowd perfectly!
Fav song: The Flight of Icarus

Mystik, I liked all your rockin' bands you picked (Doors, Zep, Eagles) but I'm not a hip hop fan personally.

BTW, look for two Doors albums released without Jim Morrison after he quit the band (and died of course). You will have to search hard in 2nd hand record stores. I own one called "Other Voices" and the other I don't have is "Infinity." Both were released in '72 I think and suck, but are needed for completist collectors! I think Ray Manzarek provided the vocals on those two.

Those are some good choices above. Here are mine:

1. Beatles - Hands down, the best ever. Enough said.

2. Radiohead - Some people are down on them since "Ok Computer", but I think everything they have done is amazing.

3. The Cure - Extremely influential and passionate. They are an underrated band with a huge and great music catalog.

4. Nirvana - They killed Michael Jackson and hair bands. They started the rock renaissance.

5. Deftones - Alternative metal band with punk attitude.

Somewhere I would like add Nine Inch Nails and a host of other classic bands like Pink Floyd, The Doors, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, and others.

(edit) oops, how did I leave out Tool?

1.Alice in Chains:
Favorite song: Down in a Hole.
Layne had an amazing voice and Cantrell's gutair work is a good as they come. I think if Layne hadn't passed we may have had a new AIC album out but Jerry's solo work is pretty awesome.

2.Pantera:
Favorite Song: Cemetery Gates.
What can you say about them except pure all-american 100% ass kicking ear splitting head banging metal. Sucks what happened to Dimebag last year.

3.Green Day:
Favorite Song: Jesus of Suburbia.
This is the band that got me away from being a diehard country fan. Tre's an amazing drummer and Mike/Billie Joe can hold their own as-well.

4.Stone Temple Piolits:
Favorite Song: Lady Picture Show.
Weiland has an amazing voice and this band really comes through with a great sound be it a slow or fast song. Hope there's another album after VR is finished/taking a break.

5.Foo Fighters:
Favorite Song: Monkey Wrench.
Dave Grohl is a mastermind, he's in or was in two of my favorite bands(Foo's and QotSA)plus was a part of the biggest band in the 90's. Taylor can go on drums and Chris and Nate are solid as-well.

Honorable mentions:

Mad Season
Faith No More
C.O.C
Black Label Society
CKY
QotSA
Reel Big Fish
Slunt
Cold
Prong
Clutch
Primus
Filter
The Distillers

Hey Adam X,

Cool to see somebody is into COC (you do mean "Corrosion of Conformity"?) and Prong.
I love their stuff, especially Prong`s first album. [Thumbs Up]

Ever listened to "Blast" (the SST band)? If not, check out their album "Power of Expression", its a bit like COC --- only better (in my opinion).
Great stuff!

Blast from the past indeed. I remember when an old drummer of mine used to parade around during the early 1990s wearing one of their Beg To Differ t-shirts and would frequently quote lyrics from that album in public places at inopportune moments and high decibel levels. As for the topic at hand, I sincerely doubt that I'd be able to come up with an accurate list of my top 5 favorite artists because there've just been way too many over the years who'd all have equal claim to those positions. The only constant in the #1 spot on any incarnation of my list would be The Beatles though, that much I know.

I recall having an old Prong t-shirt back in the early 90's. Funny though I never owned one of their albums. Only song I can even remember was something along the lines, "SNAP YER FINGERS SNAP YER NECK!!!!!"

LOL Paul, that was one of the lyrics that he quoted the most often! That particular track ("Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck") was off their 1994 Cleansing album though as I recall. He still uses that one on occasion... hehe

I am kind of like CJ (except I don't dress in drag!) I have so many bands that I listen to and love, picking a top 5 is almost impossible.

I will list the top 5 bands that I think are my favorites, either because of their live shows, or their personal influence on me growing up:

1) ZZ Top- I grew up lving next door to Billy Gibbon's and they have been friend's of mine all my life. I am a metalhead, but I love their music and think they are one of the best band's of all time! Meeting up with them on 10/18 for a show in Hollywood, Fl. and a little gambling at the Hard Rock Casino there.

2) The Misfit's- Again they are good friends, except for Glenn, and I think that without their music (and several other bands of that era/genre), that band's like Metallica and other early 80's metal bands would not be as good as they are without this music as an influence.

3) Suicidal Tendencie's- One of my all time favorite live bands!! Probably the best live band ever during the 80's and early 90's, if you are into that type of music.

4) Pantera- I like them, their music, and Dimebag was one of my drinking buddy's for almost 20 years. What a tragic ending to a wonderful person's life who always put his friend's first!

5) Metallica- Love their music and their live shows (except in the round).

Glad to see another admirer of Miss. Lee, Scabbia is amazing too.

I liked Orgy's new single but haven't heard anything else from the album yet.

This is a hard one. There are so many bands I've enjoyed over the years. I gues I would have to break it down into 5 all time favorite bands, and 5 current favorite bands.

TOP 5 ALL TIME FAVORITES:
Iron Maiden
Venom
Merciful Fate
Immortal
Cradle of Filth (everything except Nymphetamine)

TOP 5 CURRENT FAVORITES:
Massemord
Frostmoon Eclipse
Catamenia
Anorexia Nervosa
Rotting Christ

I think it's really cool that there are so many Iron Maiden fans out here at Wu's. I myself was fanatical about Maiden back in the '80s and got totally caught up in the whole scene of collecting all of their albums, singles, picture discs, imports, etc, all on vinyl of course. hehe I also attribute the fact that I'm a musician today to the strong influence that Dave Murray's guitar playing had on me. He was the catalyst that prompted me to take the plunge and plunk down a nice chunk of change for a Fender Strat back in the day, and I've never looked back. I guess I'm just writing this because I'm pleased as punch not only to see so many Maiden fans still out and about after 29 years of the band's existence, but to see a bunch of them right here on Wu's Feet Links of all places. It warms the heart, ya know. Up the irons!

Amen brother Jack. I got into them when Maiden's #otB album came out in '82 or so. I was scared of them at first when I first saw the album cover because I was raised like veal at that time and was still going to Sunday School weekly. Shortly after that though things turned around when I began to think for myself and I never turned back!

I'm more into Smith's guitar work than Davey's though. Listen to some of the shit he does on Bruce's solo stuff with Roy Z. It friggen blows his stuff with Maiden out of the water!

Nirvana
Rage Against the Machine
Tindersicks
Led Zepellin
Elliot Smith
Interpol
Metallica
The Distillers
The Datsuns
The Strokes
The Doors
The Beatles

bahh i even have more

LOL, that album cover was one of the things that appealed to me the most about them because it made me feel right at home considering what was going on in my life at the time. Incidentally it's been going on ever since. hehe

Yeah, I've heard some of the stuff that Adrian & Roy did on Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding and I'll concur that there's some excellent playing there. I think Adrian was a great player in Maiden as well, though admittedly I generally found Dave's solos to be more memorable and always found them to have the more interesting tone.

I can't tell you how many times I saw Carnivore at La'Mours in Brooklyn.

This little Top 40 ditty comes to mind:

Drool dripping out my tongue hanging south saliva flowing free
My eyes full of lust my balls gonna bust give yourself to me
Thirst I can’t quench c’mere you wench there’s something that I need

Carnivore
I’m a meat eater
Carnivore
I’d like to meet ya
Carnivore
I know I’ll reach ya

The hunger I feel makes you a meal oh girl you sure taste sweet
By my hair pull me there guide me to your treat
Spread your legs I’ll seed your eggs oh, feel me deep

Chorus

Lick me she begged she pulled down my head I love to eat pussy
A taste so fine like sweet april wine I won’t trade for any money
Did you cum I eat and run I live for sodomy

Great ST song:

Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted
to.
I get real frustrated and I try hard to do it and I take my time and it
doesn't work out the way I wanted to.
It's like I concentrate real hard and it doesn't work out
Everything I do and everything I try never turns out
It's like I need time to figure these things out
But there's always someone there going

Hey Mike:
You know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately. You
know, maybe you should get away and maybe you should talk about it, maybe
you'll feel a lot better

And I go:
No it's okay, you know I'll figure it out, just leave me alone I'll figure
it out. You know I'll just work by myself.

And they go:
Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here you know and you'll
probably feel a lot better if you talk about it.

And I go:
No I don't want to I'm okay, I'll figure it out myself and they just keep
bugging me and they just keep bugging me and it builds up inside and it
builds up inside.

So you're gonna be institutionalized
You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes
You won't have any say
They'll brainwash you until you see their way.

I'm not crazy - institutionalized
You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - institutionalized

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
to give me the needed professional help
to protect me from the enemy, myself

I was in my room and I was just like staring at the wall thinking about
everything but then again I was thinking about nothing
And then my mom came in and I didn't even know she was there she called my
name and I didn't even hear it, and then she started screaming MIKE! MIKE!
And I go:
What, what's the matter
And she goes:
What's the matter with you?
I go:
There's nothing-wrong mom.
And she goes:
Don't tell me that, you're on drugs!
And I go:
No mom I'm not on drugs I'm okay, I was just thinking you know, why don't
you get me a pepsi.
And she goes:
NO you're on drugs!
I go:
Mom I'm okay, I'm just thinking.
She goes:
No you're not thinking, you're on drugs! Normal people don't act that way!
I go:
Mom just give me a Pepsi please
All I want is a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me.
Just a Pepsi.

They give you a white shirt with long sleeves
Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves
Drug you up because they're lazy
It's too much work to help a crazy

I'm not crazy - institutionalized
You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - institutionalized

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up
achair and they sat down, they go:
Mike, we need to talk to you
And I go:
Okay what's the matter
They go:
Me and your mom have been noticing lately that you've been having a lot of
problems, you've been going off for no reason and we're afraid you're gonna
hurt somebody, we're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself.
So we decided that it would be in your interest if we put you somewhere
where you could get the help that you need.
And I go:
Wait, what do you mean, what are you talking about, we decided!? My best
interest?! How can you know what's my best interest is? How can you say what
my best interest is? What are you trying to say, I'm crazy? When I went to
your schools, I went to your churches, I went to your institutional learning
facilities?! So how can you say I'm crazy.

They say they're gonna fix my brain
Alleviate my suffering and my pain
But by the time they fix my head
Mentally I'll be dead

I'm not crazy - institutionalized
You're the one who's crazy - institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - institutionalized

They stuck me in an institution
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself

What does it matter i'll probably get hit by a car anyway

I was in the same situation. But it is in part becauseof their sinister reputation and imagery that drew me to the band.

In fact, to me that is a crucial element to heavy metal, having a dark ominous mystique to the band. If the band doesn't have that, then as far as I'm concerned it's not really metal.

If you want to talk about scary metal, how about the first time you heard the song "Hell Awaits" by Slayer. That was pure magic.

Posted by Bullitt (Member # 848) on :

Scary metal? Heh heh... I just bought a few CDs today: Gorgoroth - Pentagram, Dark Funeral's first EP and Hacked Up For Barbeque by Mortician. Bit heavier than what I usually listen to but I still love it all.

As for the top bands I guess the top five would be...

Children of Bodom - Love every second of them. They can be totally random ie. keyboard solo, followed by guitar solo, followed by ANOTHER keyboard solo, but everything is brutal and melodic.
FAVE SONG - Downfall

Pantera - Don't really need to say much. Their later albums weren't anywhere near as good as their earlier work (hair metal days excluded) but it's incredibly difficult to fault Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power. R.I.P. Dimebag
FAVE SONG - Cemetary Gates

Dream Theater - Yes, they can play very pretentious prog metal, but they are definitely jaw-dropping as well. They're a lot softer than just about everything else I listen to but I can't help but love them. Some of their minimalist songs, ie The Silent Man, Space-Dye Vest, are also their most brilliant.
FAVE SONG - Take the Time

Metallica - Had to put them in here, even though they haven't released a good album in 15 years. Of course, their first four albums were all pure thrash metal perfection.
FAVE SONG - Fade to Black

Soilwork - Don't think all that much of their last two releases but I just can't resist A Predator's Portrait and Natural Born Chaos.
FAVE SONG - Mindfields

Honourable mentions go to

Iced Earth
In Flames
Queensrÿche
Skid Row
Sepultura
W.A.S.P.
Sonata Arctica

I better stop because I'll just keep going for too long...

Jack, I was either in the PIT or running away from skinheads back then. I don't remember seeing too many open-toe shoes from the girls back then either. I did love LaMours though, even if the train ride through Brooklyn was a bit creepy at times.

Regarding the top 5 artists list, I would have to replace Seurat with El Greco, but that's just my personal taste.

I saw him preform with Sol.Illaquists of Sound earlier this year. Best concert I've ever been to (suck on that Rolling Stones and The Who!). The thing about the Sol.Illaquists of Sound is that they can preform the fucking roof off, but some of their songs' lyrics are a bit lame.

And yeah, the Notwist stuff is quite pleasureable.

I grew up listening to KISS, then cut my teeth on groups like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. After that I made the natural segue into Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, and Overkill.

My roots are deep in metal, but I also like Return to Forever, Frank Zappa, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Liquid Tension, and anything else that takes a great amount of talent to pull off.

Top five? Impossible, it'd change by the hour.

Hey, any metalheads remember Wrathchild America? "Climbin' the Walls" and "3D" have to be two of my top favorite metal albums of all time. The drummer Shannon Larkin now plays for Godsmack. If you're into metal and have never heard Wrathchild America, go now, go and get you some.

You just took me on a trip down memory lane in a major way, Bondo. I feel like I just had my memory jogged with a toilet plunger! hehe I don't think the name Wrathchild America would have crossed my mind again in what's left of my lifetime if you hadn't just mentioned it right here and now. The fact is though that Wrathchild America was my drummer's favorite band at the time that he and I started our first band together back in high school in 1990. The Climbin' the Walls album was definitely always in heavy rotation in his Walkman and they were one of his key influences at the time. I never really got into them much myself as I was already knee-deep into the likes of Maiden and Helloween by then, but damn did that name ring a bell.

Wrathchild America - I worked for Atlantic for several years and they were on the label, so I saw them a few times. Not my cup of tea, though. I preferred heavier metal - death and thrash.

CJ - Helloween? Another trip down memory lane. How about that Walls of Jericho album!

Absolutely love it! In fact, I love all of the pre-Keeper recordings that they released prior to 1987 back when Kai Hansen was still lead vocalist. I used to frequently start off my nand's rehearsal sessions with a quick run thru of "Ride The Sky" as a matter of fact. My all-time favorite recording of theirs would have to be the Judas EP as that one had absolutely killer tracks on it like "Judas" and "Victim of Fate". I don't mean to knock Michael Kiske though, because I love much of the material on the Keeper of the 7 Keys albums, but it's just a different and perhaps more mainstream sound for them. Vintage Helloween (1984-1986) on the other hand was as metal as metal gets.

Here's something out of stupidity for us Old Skewl metal heads. My buddy and I fabricated a fake fan club called:

The King-Wrath-Iron-Priest-Mega-Over-Scatter-Bourne-Van-Slay-Anthra-Nuclea-Talli-Testa-Ryche fan club

Which covered our favorite bands at the time (circa 1990)
King Diamond, Wrathchild America, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Overkill, Scatterbrain, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, Metallica, Testament, Queensryche.

I did mention the stupidity part, right?

LOL Bondo... I made a game out of that and tried to figure out what all the bands were before looking ahead at your next line to see the names of them. I got a perfect score, woohoo! Granted it wasn't exactly challenging, but it felt like an accomplishment just the same. hehe

Hey Calico, you remember Scatterbrain too? I saw them on the "Here Comes Trouble" tour on the local club circuit back in the day. They were awesome...weird, but awesome.

I remember Tommy Crist (sp?, the lead singer) on stage doing something that he'll likely burn in hell for. It was funny as crap though! He was dressed as a nun, and under his habit he had a pair of very large fake boobs. He opened the top to expose the breasts and squeezed one of the nipples, which shot out a stream of milk that put out the cigarette he was smoking. They were wild! The one guitar player was dressed as a chicken and the drummer was dressed like Tarzan.

Ah memories. Nuns with squirting boobs, giant chickens, Tarzan...sounds like a bad acid trip.

Don't call me dude!

Scatterbrain - "Don't Call Me Dude". Good old Tommy Christ. Prior to Scatterbrain, he was in the band Ludichrist.

I preferred hardcore bands like Agnostic Front and the Cro-Mags though.

I suppose the Scatterbrain show was pretty close to sick as the GWAR show I saw back in '88 or so. Odorous Urangus was equiped with a huge 2 foot phallus that he of course stroked and tugged on until the creamy filling shot out all over the audience. I was in the front row with my buds and aside from all the blood we were also jizzed on. The horror! [Laugh]

I saw Helloween on the MTV Headbangers Ball in support of Anthrax and Exodus about that same time. I enjoyed their first few albums, but never got the Judas EP. I guess I need to search it out.

Ah!

Some closet Lightfoot fans? [Fingers Crossed]

Calico Jack, I completely share your sentiments for "If You Could Read My Mind". It truly is a mesmerising song. Gordon's voice is so pleasant, so natural, so soulful. It flows like water over pebbles. Nothing or nobody, however, comes close to the heaven-sent depth or expressiveness of Elvis' voice. At least... not for me. [Wink]

The only thing that bugged me about that song was when I found out that there were two different acoustic guitar tracks that had been recorded separately and then laid down on top of one another. For some reason I'd initially been under the impression that Gordon played all of the guitar parts simultaneously (rhythm & fingerpicked melodies together), but such was not the case on that song. On the bright side, it made me feel better about the potential of covering the song!

Yeah, I'm afraid it's gone. It was only open for about four months before closing its doors. The club had been dealing with financial problems for quite a while by that point, and after people started demanding their money due to a poor turnout at the Genitorturers show on September 23rd, the club refused to give any refunds and that was pretty much the final straw. Bands had also been cancelling gigs there on a fairly regular basis as well, so business was bad from the start more or less.

that is true.my friends band played that nite and venue barely paid anything to them...it is true tho,the turnout in that place looked around 50-75 people @ the most, prior to genitortuers maybe 35 people were there and most of them were not drinking(wich is where a lot of venues make their cash).I think if lamours promoted themselves more that they were open again, they would still be open, they didn't even have a webpage, jus a page on myspace, now if they promoted themselves in the village voice, had bands linked lamours from their page, etc they'd still be open.....r.I.p lamours

I will always have great memories from that club. Whether it was interviewing Kreator for the first time, throwing a stinkbomb during Overkill's set, seeing Slayer a million times, or being up on stage during a Sadus set. Great, great memories.

Speaking of gay, segue to the Genitorturers. Is the singer still dating that gaylord David Vincent of Morbid Angel? I was backstage one time and David Vincent was standing infront of a mirror and practicing playing with his hair and sucking in his lips. Lord of all posers and plague.

In no particular order:

1) Guns N Roses

2) Metallica

3) Bon Jovi

4) Limp Bizkit

The rest of the music, well, consists of a variety of pop, metal, rock and some techno/dance throughout the 80s, 90s, and today. Most of the music that is well known in nightclubs get me psyched up.

she's married to em,hahaha sounds like he's a lil too femine, what a fag.....this show was the last time I''l probably see them.their stage show gets more n more tame, how many times can I see that damn terrorwheel.gens starting to look look a lot older, don't get me wrong, her body is bangin but it looks like she has 2 inches of makeup on.they've stripped their electronic elements on almost all songs(they need it).
It is sad to see lamours go,I feel that place held a lot significance in the metal scene of nyc and holds some imprtance as a nyc music landmark simalar to cbgbs(not saying its like cbgbs)....last time I was there,it didn't seem like lamours tho,it had a very odd vibe to it..from what I herd they're gonna turn that propert into a car dealership, isn't that lovly

Hmmm top 5? Man that's hard. Being a DJ, more of my picks are electronic in nature.

1. Paul Van Dyke. The man is a genius. I remember when "for an angel was released on vinil, and I spun it at this rave I was mixing at and man the crowd went INSANE. His trance i solid enough to get the floor moving, yet he shows off his variety by making some chill songs as well.

2. ATB. His style of trance is more personal, and each song really has it's own character. he really pushes the line of mixing tracne, downtempo, and ambient together.

3. BT. His music challenges all categories. From raves, to working with major pop stars, he makes music that is electronic yet organic.

4. Crystal Method. Whenever they come to town I have to see em. With sick beats and hard breaks you can't but not give em respect.

5. Outkast. Say it say it...so fresh and so clean clean....THE MOST ORIGINAL ACT IN HIP HOP. Still to this day and they been around for a while. Totally new beats courtesy of the dungeon family.

The ones that I still bump but didn't quite make it to my top are.....

Method Man, New Order (all you 80's heads know what I mean and yes they still make songs dope as hell), Incubus, Way Out West, Common, Mos Def (One of the tighest solo MC's EVER-he flows and keeps it real and if you listen, I GUARANTEE you will learn something from his flow), Massive Attack, Portishead, Xzibit.

Here's my top 5:

1) Dr. Dre - I'm surprised no one has mentioned him. From NWA to his solo career and now producing, he's the Quincy Jones of our time!

2) Moby - this guy consistently puts out great music with many different textures and styles. And the remixes that come out from his albums and singles are classic stuff.

3) Smashing Pumpkins - Sorry, I'm from Chi-town. Gotta give it up to my local band, who made it big and than split up only to reunite at a later date with some of the members?!?!

4) Speedy J - This dude is way beyond your average electronica. Some of his albums are dark and moody and others are very techno.

5) Wu-Tang Clan - individually or as a group, these guys kick ass.
