I thought that with the number of people here who play video games, it could be kinda' cool to see which games and for which systems that are occupying your time lately...

I'm thinking if you want to check in on this weekly and just post what you've been playing for that week, that could keep this interesting. We can see if our tastes switch up very much from week to week. I know mine probably won't change up much...I'm a shooter playing fool. [Big Grin]

Anyway, I'll go first...

For the week of 4/8 -> 4/15
Gradius V (PS2)
Castle Shikigami 2 (PS2)
Ikaruga (GameCube)
Hellfire (Genesis)

I am actually playing around with the R P G Maker series and making my own games for the Playstation 2!

I just got a barebones FLASH software package and will be making some flash games for Lissawhipped.com in the coming weeks!

Any suggestions, ideas for flash games on fetish sites, or people telling me to shut the hell up, are welcome.

Still trying to complete "The Temple of Elemental Evil" on the PC. Two hard drive crashes 2 years in a row made me start completely over from the beginning.

I'm surprised you still have a Genesis, Lou. My parents still had all of my old machines we had back in the early 80s until just a few years ago when they sold them in a garage sale. You know, Intellevision, Colecovision, original 8 bit Nintendo.

Ohhh yeah...still got my Genesis and still love it to no end. A lot of really great games came out on that lil' ol' 16-bit system! [Thumbs Up]

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to track down all the carts I want for it, so I've resorted to emulation for some of the harder to get titles. Alien Soldier for example is a wondrous, jaw-dropping game, but Sega of America, being the total jackasses they were at the time of the Genesis' heyday, passed on bringing that technological marvel to the states. And, needless to say, I'm not about to line some price-gouging collector's pockets on e-bay just to get that one elusive game.

But yeah ledaemon, I know what you mean about the older systems. I've either owned or played pretty much every console system that's come along. I never got to own a Colecovision or an Intellivision, but I did get an Atari 2600 and an Odyssey 2, then eventually a Gemini. I think that Odyssey 2 is still in my parents' garage...come to think of it...hmmm... [Cool]

Genesis was great,altho I haven't played it in over 2 years because my system is missing after moving out of my previous appt.a lot of classic games like time killers,saturday night slam masters,etc.I'm acually thinking of copping a sega nomad instead of a psp.I know of a video game store not too far from me that's pretty much a video game collector store that has almost every system that's been out,american or not.sounds and looks great till you see the prices that makes ebays collectors selling stuff look like a bargin.in any case;
Currently I'm playing the godfather on ps2

right now, it's all psp for me. i wont say how i get my games, but i will say that sony cant expect me to pay for $50 games that are mostly ports. ive been using alot of homebrew on it, and i LOVE the original quake. ive also modded it to change the font it uses. i've pretty much stopped using emulators or it because my memory card is full of psp games that i've "aquired". psp games i'm playing right now are Generation of Chaos, Metal Gear Acid 2, and burnout(still love it).

also--lou, maybe you recognize this. it's a homebrew port of an old computer game called rRootage. you know anything about it? it has a play mode that it looks like ikaruga copied. you can change your ship from black to white. if you're black, the black bullets that touch you get shot back at the enemy (there's only one), and vice versa.here's a pic of that mode

I know what you mean! There's a shop right across the river from where I live that's kinda' the same way...got all kinds of video gaming goodies to make my eyes bug...but with prices that could make my wallet ache! [Mad]

The kicker about that is, if you've got a contact in Japan, you can snag a whole lot of those goodies for practically pennies on the dollar! I've got a friend that goes to Japan once every two years or so, and he's actually bought me some Neo Geo carts for less than $10! Of course they're usually bargain bin titles by that point, but still it's a sweet deal.

Yeah vineofthorns, I'd say to get yourself a Nomad before a PSP. PSP's are going to be around for a while and should only go down in price...I can't say that a Nomad is going to be readily available for purchase the next time you go looking...and not to mention all the games you can enjoy on your Nomad! [Woot]

I used to play all the consoles regularly, but since last year, I have played pretty much one game and one game only. Yeah, it is that good...

World of Warcraft

I have a 60 level warrior, 60 level priest and and now working on a rogue.

Wow!! That's pretty good for neo geo titles.I remember when that system was out and how much the titles use to be.I've never looked @ the stores neogeos game titles but I'm sure the price hasn't changed if not being more so under 10 each is amazing.I remember they use to have the neo geo arcade machines and how much money I use to spend on war of the monsters(think that was its name) lol..glad u understand my picking a nomad over a psp, most people think I'm crazy.its not nessicerly the price of the psp,but the games that are out aren't too apealing.I think once their library gets a little larger I will consider copping one, aside from a few titles, its not too intresting to me.

Speaking of Neo-Geo, I've been playing Baseball Stars 2 a whole lot lately. That was a baseball game designed by SNK for the Neo-Geo back in 1992 as a sequel to their Baseball Stars Professional game from 1990. Every time the major league baseball season gets underway in the spring, it's always only a matter of days before the bug for baseball gets the better of me and I break that game out.

That'd be King of the Monsters my friend, and yes, that was a damn good game! Being the Godzilla and Ultraman fanboy that I am, I would love teaming up with a friend and playing tag matches on that...I would always pick Geon, and my friend would pick Astro Guy...Godzilla and Ultraman side-by-side! Hey...I can dream anyway. [Big Grin]

Of course King of the Monsters 2 just had to come along and water it all down...how in hell do you go from bad-assed wrestling to side-scrolling beat-'em-up?! Made no sense to me, and I HATED the way they had to re-draw Geon and Astro Guy...they looked like guys in rubber suits in part 1, which to me was part of the charm...they kept up the low-budget/campy aspect of Japanese monster movies. Part 2 completely re-worked them...and for the worse. SNK sure dropped the ball on that series, but at least we have an all-time classic in part 1. [Thumbs Up]

Oh, and for this week, I've been playing:
P.N.03 (GameCube)
Resident Evil 4 (Mercenaries) (GameCube)

Is this a good game? The reason I ask is because I picked up part 1 about a month ago (for a measly $10, so I couldn't complain about the price), and haven't been able to get into it at all. Resident Evil 4 (and for that matter P.N.03, P.S.O., and Gun Grave) have spoiled me with keeping the camera behind the player. D.M.C. pissed me off right away by having me getting hit with stuff from off-screen. Is this problem fixed by part 3?

The camera is better, but it is still very similar to DMC. I LOVE the game. There is a ton of customization to your character for an action game. Lots of weapons, skills, being able to specialize in weapon types etc.. amazing game.

Ninja Gaiden still the best action game ever made, though.

Surely! That's my main go-to baseball game when I'm not playing Baseball Stars 2. It took me a little while to get acclimated to 2020 because the action occurs at a much quicker pace and it's initially a challenge to stay aware of everything that's going on, not to mention the changes in gameplay such as having balls that are hit out of the stadium come rolling down the walls and dropping back into play on the field. There's also the more intricate Power Up system as well. Today I'm just as comfortable on 2020 as I am on the others, but I'll likely always prefer the Baseball Stars series for the sentimental manner in which those games capture the real baseball experience.

Devil MAy cry 3 is off the hook. PArt one wwass great-but if you look at iot now it's not so hot anymore simply because when it came out, itt was ground breaking, now soo many other games use a formula similar to it. Hey Lou, I remember back in the day we were supposed to hook up for Phantasy Star online, but it never happened. You down for some socom?

I'm sorry Bro...truth is I never got to go online with P.S.O. I always found a reason to talk myself out of it...biggest reason being financial. [Cry] I got it again on the GameCube with every intention to go online...but then I started getting side-tracked with other games, and I NEVER built up a character the way I did on the Dreamcast. Blame Wario World! Damn that evil little asshole Wario...Nintendo and Treasure teaming up for a game?! Man...I just HAD to see that one through. I kept planning on getting back into P.S.O., but now I'm hooked on P.N.03...

Speaking of P.S.O. I sure will be glad when P.S.U. comes out. I saw some screen-shots of it months ago, it looked great...and then *poof* I stop hearing about it. But going on those shots, it looks like you can play as a werewolf in P.S.U.! I already know which character I'm playing when I get that game! [Woot]

What games do you have in mind to play? Sounds like you've got some classic gaming you want to get out of your system. [Thumbs Up]

As for me, this week has been nothing but P.N.03. I've read some rather nasty reviews of this GameCube game, but regardless of what others say, I'm totally hooked on it. I can see why some people bitch about it...some of the scenario's are repetitive, and over half of the game is spent leveling Vanessa (your character) up so she can tackle more and more bad-assed robots, but the nay-sayers seem to be completely missing the charm of this obscure little title...and that charm is?

COMBO'S!!!

Just go ahead and try to combo your enemies, killing them ALL in succession, and try to top your time doing it...AND try to make it out of a chaotic room doing all of this without taking a single hit. This is no easy task, and you can find yourself trying to get better and better, treating every room as a goal to be met. If these play mechanics grab you, like they did me, this game will not let you go.

And if the intense and addicitve gameplay (and not to mention a cool as hell soundtrack) aren't good enough...you see Vanessa shake her fine derrier and dance (no lie) the whole time she's destroying shit. Sex and violence, mixed and brought to the point of becoming "poetry in motion", if you're a good enough player that is. P.N.03 is a bargain bin title every GameCube owner should look into!

 -
Ahhhh Vanessa...destructive, dangerous, bad attitude, and sexy as video game girls can get! Now if only she had a costume that left her barefoot... [Mmm] [Cool]

I'm playing Thief also, but in my case it's the arcade game Thief that was released by Pacific Novelty back in 1981. The concept is basically just like Pac-Man except you're a thief gobbling up money instead of dots and running from police instead of ghosts. Those of you who remember the golden age of arcades like I do might remember that Thief cabinets had actual cassette players mounted inside of them which would play the 4-minute tape loop of actual police band radio announcements from way back, thus adding a constant element of speech audio to the gameplay.

I am 23, I think I caught the tail end of Arcades. I still go to them occasionally in Weirs Beach New Hampshire, but they just aren't the same anymore nor are they nearly as popular(in that arcade even) as when I was younger.

Sad really, I love Arcades, but today's arcades make me hate them. I'm not paying 1.75 for 30 seconds of some high tech racing game.

Ring King was the best, but if I could find Ninja Gaiden or Double Dragon for sale i'd definitely buy them.

Ninja Gaiden was off the damned hook! I LOVED that game in the arcade...back when "real" arcades existed. It drained my pockets but I didn't care...it's a shame that we never got a home version of this, aside from the one that appeared on the Atari Lynx, which I never got to play... [Cry]

[Laugh] I'd imagine so! That's the weirdest thing about this most weird series of games...they tend to be good games, but you wind up feeling so damned awkward admitting that you like any of them! I mean, I can't look somebody in the eye and tell them that a shooter with a muscular man wearing nothing but a leather thong, flexing his muscles and flinging his sweat at the bad guys, is a quality shooter, even though it is! I usually end up talking in circles explaining why the games are good, even though they're oozing homosexual innuendo's... [Big Grin]

I need to get busy and write a review on Ai Cho Aniki for my friend's upcoming site. I wonder how hard it's going to be to get gamers to put any homo-phobia they might have on the backburner long enough to enjoy these trippy games? [Smile]

Don't be jealous of me Brother killa...I saw a movie of a guy playing Ikaruga, and this dude didn't miss a target AT ALL! No lie, he managed to get through the game without letting anything survive, and he made PERFECT chains every time! I think he got something like a 234 piece chain in chapter 1, and whipped the boss with something like 69 seconds left on the clock!

That guy, whoever he is, is the one to be jealous of. Hell, I'm envying the man myself...and try as I might to mimick some of his technique in the game, I just can't pull it off sometimes. I somehow managed to land a 66 piece chain on chapter 1 this morning, but I couldn't do it again anytime soon if I had a gun pointed at my head! [Laugh]

Ikaruga...the game that is a destroyer of lesser gamers (i.e. ME!), yet so addictive in doing it. Gotta love it! [Thumbs Up]

Oh, and I can already tell you folks what game I'll be playing all this week. I just got Resident Evil 4 again, but this time on the PS2, so naturally I'm anxious to see all the changes in this version as compared to the GameCube.

Some changes I've spotted already:
*You can see the three rock pushing Ganado's from the Pueblo village earlier on in the game, running along a higher ledge, but they book before I can draw a bead on them to shoot them.

*When Mendez puts his foot in Leon's chest, and Leon's gun fires into Saddler's portrait on the wall as he goes down, the bullet hole is missing after the fight. The GameCube version had the bullet hole in place after Ada runs off Mendez...the PS2 version, for some reason, misses that tiny detail.

*Dynamite seems twice as dangerous on the PS2 version. The blast radius seems to have expanded considerably. I died once from some stupid dynamite, and damn near died a second time from it!

*The graphics have taken a SLIGHT down-step as compared to the GameCube, but only nit-picking purist nerds like me would spot any of these subtle differences.

*The view screens on the phone have a slight blur and static to them, making it seem more like a long distance transmission, so that's a welcome addition.

I saved and quit right before Del Lagos, so I'll be checking him out tomorrow! It's gonna be fun harpooning that asshole to death all over again. [Thumbs Up]

There was this awesome 10-day festival in my town and one of the tents was filled with old Ataris, Commodores, CPCs, etc.
My daughter and I hung out there almost every day and played loads of old games, but the one that really stuck was Wizball .
Got my old Commodore 64 from the basement and been playing it since a week.
Awesome game --- would be amazing to see it converted to a new Console like the Xbox 360.

Sweet, I just dug Wizball out of my archive so I'll be giving that one a whirl today myself on your recommendation. I still do the retrogaming thing on a regular daily basis as I've been doing for years now since the late 1990s, but the sheer volume of games make it virtually impossible to get around to playing them all, so I love when somebody like Hal or Lou comes along and mentions a specific game by name so I can go track it down and fire it up whereas if they hadn't, who knows how long it would've been before I'd gotten around to ever playing it? For today, Wizball it is!

It`s almost impossible to play it very far without a cheat (if you have the cracked version by TRIAD then press "C" during their intro).
Do you own an original C-64er or are you playing on an emulator?

Some other cool games we played were:

- Park Patrol
- Choplifter
- Fort Apocolypse
- The Great Giana Sisters
- Dino Eggs (as soon as you`ve found out what to do it`s awesome!)
- Hunchback
- River Raid

All really old stuff!

Have a good one,

I used to play the fire out of this on the Atari 2600, and then later on the Gemini. This one was quite a bad-assed game for its time! I understand that once you got SO far, the FUEL tanks would turn into JOES, I'm guessing to imply the fictional restaurants from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. I never could get that far, but believe it or not it wasn't my fault! The controller ports had shorts in them, meaning you'd be going along playing just fine and then *zoop*...the controller just stops working. I wound up writing a few books worth of cuss words whenever that happened... [Mad]

As for Resident Evil 4 on the PS2, here's a couple more changes I've spotted:

*The torches and most of the lanterns are untouchable. That is, no shooting or knifing out the flames to make everything dark. Of course, this option was never utilized the way it should've been on the GameCube...you might've found an item in one torch out of 50 or so, but still, I miss the ability to turn the lights out on everybody...

*The merchants are a little skimpy on their selling of First-Aid Spray. So far, I've ran into quite a few merchants who didn't even have the stuff up for sale! The First-Aid Spray flowed aplenty on the GameCube...I'm not sure why Capcom lowered the amount on the PS2, unless they just wanted to up the risk factor a bit...which they succeeded in doing! [Big Grin]

*Something I forgot to mention earlier...it's harder than hell to go back and harpoon the wolves. After Del Lago dies bloody in his watery grave, you can go back and fool around on the boat, and one fun thing to do is provoke the wolves into chasing you to the pier, then you can sit out in the boat and harpoon the basturds to death. Well, I had to try SEVERAL times to pull this off! The wolves will die with three or four harpoons, but man is it hard to zero in on them! Again, I think Capcom just did this to up the difficulty a bit.

I do actually still own my C64 but it's been sitting in a box over here for years now, so yeah, I'm using emulators for everything. You're right about it being almost impossible to play without the cheat because I grew frustrated with it in record time. I'll try using the cheat later today and giving it another go. In the meantime I'll play Fort Apocalypse instead since that was always one of my C64 favorites back in the day.

CJ, this may sound obvious but after you`ve collected the first "eye" (or what those things are) you have to wiggle the joystick in Decathlon-style and then you ball can be navigated regularly...it doesn`t jump around like a maniac any longer. After the second eye do the same thing and your ball can fly/float. And so on. After every eye you get new powers & weapons.
Just thought I´d share this because it`s almost impossible to understand the gameplay without instructions.
The aim is to collect the coloured raindrops with the help of your "partner" (a second small ball --- collect 4 eyes to get him).

What I've been playing all week:

Resident Evil 4 (PS2 version)

I just beat the main game this morning, and now I begin one of the additions that made me buy the same game again on another system...Separate Ways.

Any of you RE4 fans playing this on the PS2 have some trouble with this additional game? Jeez-Louise I got my ass kicked left and right, over and over! I finally got myself the TMP, and plenty of herbs, so I should be okay for a little while. Still...those damned Ganado's are PILING out on me, and poor Ada seems to take double the damage Leon would from the same kinds of hits. She is definitely a run and gun kind of girl...not a walking artillery like Leon.

Resident Evil 4 (PS2 version)

I FINALLY whipped Separate Ways this morning, and my friend played all the way through Assignment Ada as soon as I handed over the controller...now everything is unlocked except the Hand Cannon. Leon's running around in gangster duds now...the man is stylin'! [Big Grin]

Scarlet, do you have any idea how to get that laser gun on RE4 unlocked? I keep thinking the merchant is going to have it up for sale, but I'm killing Regenerators in the freezer at the moment and STILL no laser gun...what have I missed?

I know what you mean killa...I gave the demo of the game a whirl a long time back and it did strike me as having one major learning curve. Oh well, like I say, for $4 I can't complain too much.

I have a guy at work swearing up and down that Metal Gear Solid -Twin Snakes is worth a purchase. He says that since I like RE4 so much I'll like this too...you know anything about the Metal Gear series? Is this guy right?

Posted by scarlet (Member # 2117) on :

Metal Gear is absolutely nothing like Resident Evil 4. It is fun, don't get me wrong, but you're better off buying MGS 3 for like 10 bucks used since it is better than twin snakes. It is a 100% stealth game, there is guns and action in it, but using them usually = death.

Speaking of video games and video game systems. My lonely xbox went belly up on me lastr= month i left it on to long and so it got way over heated and now i have to take it in to get it fixed.

But insted of getting it fixed i'm going to see about trading the xbox in FOR either the new xbox 360 or playstation 3 (when it comes out around my birthday in November)

Will the gaming stores do this anybody know? or no?

It's been awhile since i have traded anything in that delt with video games.

That would depend on the individual stores you visit. Personally, I can't see too many dealers getting very eager to take a broken system off of your hands, and apply it as credit to a new system.

And even if your XBox was in perfect shape, you'd get screwed in the transaction anyway. Make no mistake about it; those stores have a bartering system to insure that they come out on top, not you as the consumer. And do you think you're going to be the only guy to want to trade in an "outdated" system for a new one? Odds are the stores are already ankle deep in PS2's, XBox's, and GameCube's since the XBox360 has come out.

I'd say your best bet is to either e-bay it off or just get it fixed, that way you can enjoy all the games you have for it so far. I've heard that the 360 isn't backward compatible with all games, so if you've got a game or two that you love to death, you may want to hold onto to your system.

Good luck in what you decide to do. [Thumbs Up]

What I've been playing this week:
RE4-Professional (PS2 version)

I just beat it and got myself the P.R.L.412 (I think that's the name for the laser gun) free of charge from the good ol' Merchant. It's a nice looking weapon, but it's crap for fighting normal enemies. However, it's EXCELLENT for taking out bosses...Mendez just bit the dust in RECORD time, and on Professional no less using this gun! [Woot]

I also saved up the money and got the Chicago Typewriter in Professional, so now it's clobberin' time! Infinite ammo boys and girls!

Like I need to type it out...but, for me it's been:
Resident Evil 4 -Mercenaries (PS2 version)

Both the Pueblo Village and the Castle are whipped, with five stars for every character. The Island is going okay...it's not so much hard as it is challenging just keeping plenty of time running on the clock so you can score some combo's. I got five stars with Hunk (he's m' boy!) and Krauser so far. I had five stars with Wesker, but I got killed before the chopper could arrive, so those five stars went up in flames...damn it all... [Mad]

I just picked up The Punisher for the PS2 today, used for $15. My co-worker has been going nonstop about it, talking about how you can interrogate enemies and all the ways you can waste people...not to mention upgrading your weapons and all the gun-fights. Sounded cool, so here's hoping I'm not disappointed.

Maybe I should just hot-key this, but this week has been more of:
Resident Evil 4 -The Mercenaries(PS2)

I have managed, and thanks go to God above, to actually get five stars with every character on the first three stages of Mercenaries, and so far get a five star rank with Krauser on the last stage. Four characters to go, one stage left...that Handcannon is gonna be in Leon's inventory one of these days! [Woot]

As for The Punisher...I don't know what to say about this one. The graphics are alright, the violence factor is through the roof, but the controls and camera angles leave a HELL of a lot to be desired. I know I'm spoiled in a major way with RE4, so perhaps The Punisher will be more fun when I get RE4 out of my system...if that ever happens that is. [Big Grin]

Asides from those three, I find myself playing a lot of Third Strike, a lot of old school SFII, and a lot of Winning Eleven.

The link won't work... [Cry]

So you've already got the game Dead Rising? Cool! So tell me, do you control the direction of your camera and your pistols with the right analog stick? I know that to whip one or the other out you have to hit the L or R shoulder buttons respectively, but I've heard that you guide either or with the right analog.

Out of all the previews I've seen, that giant drill looks bad as hell! Put it through a zombie, then carry him along, spinning him and beating the hell out of other zombies...gotta love that! [Thumbs Up]

I sure hope a port of this game comes to the Wii...so far the Wii has impressed me the most out of the next-gen systems, and I've got my heart set on that. If Capcom is going to skip the Wii with RE5 (at least for now) the least they can do is put Dead Rising on it.

Posted by Salvy_Mic (Member # 13384) on :

I don't actually have the game (since I can't afford any sort of new console at this point), but I did play it at a friend's house for a little bit. As for camera and gun control, yeah, you do guide it with the right stick, and it does take some getting used to. However, I'm pretty sure you can customize controls to your own liking, but I didn't delve too much into that.

I haven't done a lot of research on the game other than gawking at the clips on youtube, but I had a friend tell me this morning that Dead Rising is supposed to be an XBox 360 exclusive. That means, realistically, it's going to be at least a year before we see it on the Wii or PS3...hopefully by then Capcom will iron out the control issues.

A Bro of mine had a similar problem with one of his PC games...for some odd reason it worked better on an older computer than a newer one. I don't do any PC gaming, so I wouldn't have a clue as to why. Hope you've got the problem fixed. [Cool]

This week, it's been even more of Dodonpachi for me. This shooter is considered by some to be the one game that started a genre among shooters that is called the "manic shooters"...with games like Ikaruga and Giga Wing 2 being popular titles within this subgenre. Manic shooters, as the name implies, basically throw seemingly thousands of bullets at you at once while piling out the enemies.

Whether it was this game or not, all I know is that Dodonpachi kicks plenty of ass and chews a whole lot of bubblegum in the process. Not only are you bombarded with everything plus the kitchen sink throughout the game, but it's got a nice little scoring system that comes in handy for racking up the points called the Combo system.

This is not like the point system in Ikaruga with the chaining because it's a lot more lenient as far as which enemies you shoot, because in Dodonpachi practically anything goes. It's only tougher than Ikaruga in the respect that you have to ALWAYS be busy destroying something, or your combo counter stops and you start back from scratch. This is pretty tough to pull off in the early levels (my max in stage 1 is a little over 200), but gets easier later in the game (my max in stage 4 is over 300). What's also nice about Dodonpachi is you can destroy a lot of the background elements, and they go toward your combo counter too.

The real clencher for Dodonpachi is the secret loop...

You can only access the secret loop by beating the first loop WITHOUT DYING ONCE. Read that one more time...you are not allowed even ONE ship going down, or you can't see the secret loop and the real last boss of the game. This shooter is for any and all gamers that love a total challenge, and get it in beautiful sprite-based 2D glory.

Hmmm...nobody's added to this topic for a while, so here's something:

The games I've been geeking on lately...

DoDonPachi

I think I've come to the conclusion that if I ever stop liking shooters, I'll just abandon video gaming all together!

But then, I'm really looking forward to the new Tomb Raider Legend coming out next month for the GameCube, and that's hardly a shooter. [Big Grin]

I've been on a Raizing/8ing kick with my shooters this week, so I've been gaming it up with:

Battle Bakraid
&
*drumroll please*
Armed Police Batrider

Armed Police Batrider can be summed up by calling it the King of Fighters of shooters! You can play as pre-set teams of three, you can go the missions as one single player, you can let the computer select your team for you (a veritable grab-bag of cool characters), or you can customize your own team of bad-ass characters ready to lay waste to anything and everything.

The KOF comparison doesn't end with the teams aspect. Armed Police Batrider grabs characters and enemies from all sorts of Raizing/8ing games, like Battle Garegga, Shippu Mahou Daisakusen, and Dimahoo, so it's like a sort of dream-match of characters along with the original characters in the game. Two thumbs up out of me on this one! You folks should check this out! [Thumbs Up]

You talking about Super Monkey Ball? Kids game? Maybe in the premise alone, but the challenge of the game itself will push you to your video gaming limits! I've got Super Monkey Ball part 1 and part 2 on my GameCube, and it is VERY seldom that I can do good enough to see the secret levels. I personally like part 1 better because the levels had a little more free reign to them.

I plan to get Super Moneky Ball Adventure here pretty soon. The critics panned it, but the characters have grown on me just enough to make me want to see what new adventures await them. [Smile]

Lords of Thunder is my all-time favorite shooter, but if not for that Dodonpachi would take the lead...even over the masterpiece known as Ikaruga...and I never saw that happening any time soon.

Anyway, here's a snapshot of my progress on Dodonpachi so far. These are scores attained on one credit, no continue games...

I got myself a GameCube copy of Tomb Raider Legend Friday night, and that's all I've been playing all weekend. I already knew this was a good one when I saw my cousin play his PS2 version of the game, and I nearly picked up the PS2 version for myself...but, I happen to really like the feel of the analog controls on the GameCube over that of the PS2, plus the built-in anti-aliasing in the hardware made me hold out for this release.

All I can say about this game are two words: KICK ASS!

I'm not a Tomb Raider fanboy by any means though. I got the original back in the day on the PS1, thought it was pretty cool for it's time, and eventually got part 2, and thought part 2 sucked shit. Part 3 came along and I didn't move a muscle in picking it up since part 2 stunk so much. Tomb Raider Gold and Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness (I think that's the title) didn't really do anything to win me back, and word had it that the real fans of the series were disappointed with these.

Well, along comes Tomb Raider Legend and I sit up and take notice. Right away I see a damned quantum leap forward in terms of graphical improvement. Not only are the settings and stages very pretty to behold, but Lara Croft herself got a real overhaul in her design. No longer are her tits ridiculously huge...she's been reproportioned to a more athletic and believable build. Her British accent is back, and she's back to her roots! No more gun battles taking center stage...there's fights aplenty and they're all good enough, but the real fun lies in exploration and problem solving.

Now...the real clencher? Lara has different outfits in the course of the game that you can unlock and choose to have her wear when you go back on accessible stages. Two of these outfits has her *drumroll please* barefoot! Yeap, sexy lil' Lara can barefoot her way through all kinds of peril if you so desire. The sound effects even reflect her barefooting! When you run you can hear her feet *skit skitting* along on the ground (as opposed to the clomping sound of her boots)...when she lands you can hear her feet slap the surface...and it may be my imagination but I think I've even seen her soles get dirty on certain outdoor stages as well! [Drool]

Fun game, cool characters, good story, and it even makes for some sweet fantasies! How many other video games can fit that last category? You folks need to check this out! [Thumbs Up]

Man those games took hours upon hours of my life back in the day with me and my buddies playing that for days on end!

Congrats on your brand new Wii! Enjoy!

lol...be careful with that Wii remote...if you get too excited playing a game the cheap strap may break and send it flying into your TV:

I'm excited to play Zelda Twilight Princess too but I ordered the Gamecube version...should be here next Wednesday. Figured it made more sense to spend $50 on it and play it on the Gamecube I already own then spend $300 having to buy the Wii just to play it (if I could even find a Wii system to purchase besides the overpriced ones on eBay right now).

I have to say, the wii rocks, and twilight princess it´s great. Feels a little too focused on "zelda clichés" at times, and some of the motion controls seem like kinda forced, but overall, it´s been a great gaming experience... If anyone here it´s plannin to get a next gen system but can´t decide which one to buy, allow me to recommend the wii: it´s cheaper, and it´s fun. (sorry for the lousy english)

A friend of mine told me that the Wii is out-selling the PS3 by a 4-to-1 margin! If he's correct, you know what that's gonna mean...

Third party attraction! And you know what that's gonna mean...

More games! [Drool]

Now if Capcom will release Resident Evil 5 eventually for the Wii (I'm still stoked about the Resident Evil exclusive title coming soon only for the Wii, but I want to see what happens next in the series too), Konami makes a 2D Castlevania (like that's gonna happen, but hey, I'm not giving up hope), Treasure continues making eye-popping 2D shooters, Nintendo gives us a new Wario Ware, and if somebody FINALLY gets wise and brings over some Cave shooters domestically, this will really be a better world for all of us to live in. [Big Grin]

The game I'm hooked on at the moment...

Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (reissued on the GameCube)

My friend picked up Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube version) a little while back, and that game is AMAZING. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the $50 to get myself a copy of this beautiful game, but watching him play it got me stoked for some Zelda, and I needed a fix. I thought about starting a new quest on Zelda: Wind Waker, but then remembered that I had those re-issued Zelda games packaged in with my GameCube when I bought it.

I never gave those Zelda games much thought because I was spoiled with the phenomenal graphics of Wind Waker (don't listen to the fanboys who bash the cartoon look, this game is BAD ASS), but on a whim I fired up Ocarina of Time and got sucked into the game almost right away! The graphics aren't as pretty as the current stuff of course, but for their time they were pretty darn good, and some of the visuals are still pretty slick to see today!

I played my friends Wii about a week ago and I am officially crowning myself as tennis champ [Big Grin] its better than what I thought it was gonna be.My roomie's rented the Zelda game for it and I would watch them a little bit randomly and it caught me by surprise as being addictive.

Just started Gears of War on the 360.

Then there's SimCity 4, which I can't ever seem to get enough of. Something about creating my own empire then demolishing it with tornados or massive robots...

Still playing Ocarina of Time, and DAMN is this game frustrating and addicting at the same time! Getting lost in dungeons, missing jumps and having to backtrack...but man is this a sweet little adventure I HAVE to see through! I'm almost a decade late in playing this gem, but better late than never...and this game is really getting me stoked for the goodness that is Twilight Princess, which I should be getting here pretty soon. [Fingers Crossed]

On another note, I saw this little compilation-style video today, and wanted to share it with my fellow gaming Bro's...
Lords of Thunder

Whenever the question comes up about which is your all-time favorite video game ever, I always answer Lords of Thunder without hesitation. Just dig the visuals, atmosphere, character designs, and intense gameplay in this beauty of a shooter...and feast your ears on that music! That is actual in-game music folks! A Heavy Metal kinda' world that was always fun to escape to for a little while...Lords of Thunder never got the recognition it so rightly deserved.

Maybe I just wasn't playing it when it was groundbreaking, but its surely not worth the hype it has as the best RTS ever. I mean, Dungeon Keeper (1 + 2) and Total Annihilation were better than that [Thumbs Up]

Since I can't get a Wii, I've still been playing World of Warcraft and I got my Collectors Edition Burning Crusade. Made a Blood Elf warlock and my 3 60s (warrior, priest, rogue) haven't really seen too much action in the Outlands. First couple of weeks was insane with lag and fighting for quest kills/loot. Being on a populated server sucks, but I've been there since day one and don't want to transfer.

Patrick

P.S. Anyone play Marvel: Ultimate Alliance yet?

I haven't played it, but a guy at work says it's a pretty damn awesome game. He's a big fan of superheroes though, so his opinion probably carries a whole lot of bias. For that matter, this same guy sweared and declared that I'd like The Punisher on the PS2, but $15 later I felt ripped off!

If I could recommend one of the newer games to somebody, and if you have a GameCube for the time being Patrick, I'd say to pick up Zelda-Twilight Princess instead! I have a friend who owns that game, and it is AMAZING! Graphics are excellent, gameplay is tight and dead-on, and it's a Zelda title from Nintendo, so you already know it's going to be a winner! [Thumbs Up]

I actually had a sort of mini-addiction to "Donkey Konga" on the Gamecube for a week or so. My brother brought it round -- along with the drums. It's a lot of fun! It's more of a glorified arcade game or tech demo than anything else, but that hardly matters. If anything, that adds to the pull. Your hand-eye co-ordination really gets a work out! [Cool]

Still playing Legend of Zelda-The Ocarina of Time on the GameCube, and FINALLY finished the Water Temple late late LATE last night! This is my first time seriously playing through this game, but word around the campfire has it that the Water Temple is a real widow-maker of a dungeon when it comes to Zelda games. I didn't know what I was up against in terms of frustration, but the rumors are right...I felt like dropping the controller and crying like a little girl with a skinned knee several times before finally figuring the thing out.

Now I can't decide what to play next. Decisions decisions...

Took my pick and went with Twilight Princess...and all I gotta say about it is this:

DAYUMM!!!

I didn't think there'd be another next-gen console game to come along any time soon that could hope to compete with the beauty and masterpiece that is Resident Evil 4, but I'm happy to say that I stand corrected! Oh man is this game sheer brilliance! Graphics that will knock your eyes out of their sockets, excellent gameplay, environments that will surround you and make you feel like you're really there, characters that you care about and want to see more of (Malo is THE MAN *lol*), I don't think there's enough good things I can say about this game!

If you've got a Wii, then get it and don't think twice about it! If you're still on the GameCube and haven't got a Wii just yet (like me), get the GameCube version and play the fire out of that one! Either way this game is one of those titles that remind us of why we got into playing video games in the first place. [Thumbs Up]

Yeah Bro, I tried to give Majora's Mask a whirl one night before I dove into Twilight Princess, and found the whole time-limit thing, plus having to play the ocarina to save just frustrating. Unless I'm wrong, it seems like no matter how good you do at it, as soon as you save you're back to square one with no money and no supplies because saving reverses time by three days! There may be a way around that, but I didn't see it...

Not to mention, the recycled graphics from Ocarina of Time really don't help the case for Majora's Mask very much. Of course I'm a bit of a hypocrit because the recycling in the King of Fighters series never bothered me much...but still...I think Nintendo could've done a lot better than they did on Majora's Mask.

Still, thanks for the heads-up Patrick. [Thumbs Up]

How goes your quest to get yourself a Wii? I'm telling you Bro, if it's gonna be a while before you get a Wii, you will not be disappointed if you went on and got the GameCube version of Twilight Princess! This is one of those games where I have to MAKE myself stop playing since I have to get up for work the following day! [Cool]

Still going strong on Twilight Princess, and finished the reassembly of the Twilight Mirror earlier today (and whipping the armored dragon to do it was sweet!). I'm probably not far from beating the whole game, but I think I'm gonna drag it out and try to do all the little side-quests before it's all said and done.

I still have to complete Agitha's bug collection, so hunting for bugs all over Hyrule is gonna be a fun task.

I'm about 29 Poe Souls away from completely releasing Jovani from his curse, so that'll take a while too.

Still got treasure sweeps to do in certain dungeons...it's aggravating as hell to find all this money, and not have the room to carry at the moment I found it.

The Cave of Ordeals awaits, and that's gonna be a blast of a mission.

In other words, this has been such a great ride of a game that I don't want it to end! It's always bittersweet to reach the end of a game of this calibur...

Beat Twilight Princess a few nights ago without doing all the little side-quests I mentioned earlier (it's no big deal, I can always go back and do them at any time), and I must say that this game was one helluva ride! A beautiful ending came with this beautiful game...satisfying, but left me wanting MORE! I got so attached to the characters and the world, Nintendo is going to have a hard time topping themselves with their next Zelda game, whenever that's gonna be.

I found a pretty neat little video of Twilight Princess, put together by another fan of the game, and set to the song "Kinslayer" by Nightwish. Appropriate song and the video as a whole is pretty dang cool.

***WARNING*** Only click on this link if you've already beat Twilight Princess or are never going to buy it. This video contains some spoilers as far as the storyline. Consider yourself warned.

Okay Lou,

I read somewhere on this thread that you liked the Tomb Raider Legend game for the 360. I had a gift card left over from Christmas still, so I picked up a used copy. I liked aspects about some of the earlier Tomb Raider games, but found them hard to play really. I was curious to try this one.

Well, all I have to say is after a few hours playing it last night I am loving it! It is really easy to control, the puzzle/action mix is great, and the stage at the party where she kicks off her black heels and kicks some ass!!! Yeah, she plays the entire rest of the stage barefoot. [Smile]

I don't know how far into the game I am because I haven't read any guides or cheats on it. I just got out of the stage where I had to beat the Japanese mob boss who had the sword fragment after climbing forever long up the side of the skyscrapper.

Patrick

P.S. I've been finding some of the artifacts, but the last few areas they were covered with crates and I couldn't get them out. Any idea how?

It's been a while since I played Tomb Raider Legend, and matter of fact you're at the exact spot where I left off on it! *lol* But if I remember right, you could destroy crates by shooting them, pushing them off of ledges, and if memory serves even by dropping stuff on them. I don't remember having too much trouble busting crates, I just had trouble finding the danged artifacts in the first place.

Yeah Bro, that stage in Japan where Lara kicks off her heels and goes through it barefoot was most excellent. And of course once you beat the stages, you can unlock them to play later, so you can find all the artifacts...and this means unlocking her outfits as well. Needless to say I've really had a ball replaying the stages with a barefoot Lara. [Mmm]

I think I'll have to knuckle back down on this and whip it thoroughly. I just got sidelined with the Zelda games for a while...

We got our taxes back about 2 weeks ago. We bought a 360; and have thus far purchased, Dead Rising, Rainbow6 Vegas, Tomb Raider Legends, Gears Of War, Call of Duty 3,Prey, and Lost Planet. Ive beat Call of Duty, and am currently playin Dead Rising and Tomb Raider.
If you guys remember the old Mega Man games on nes,(as im sure most of you do), you'll remember his pulse rifle/blaster thingy her wore on his right arm. Well, in Dead Rising, you have to kill 54,000 zombies for your character to be able to unlock this weapon. It took me 6 hours of gameplay to achieve this goal, but if u have dead rising, and can spare some time, get this goal so you can get access to the Mega Blaster, it is badass. Most bossess fall in about 1 to 3 pulse shots, and when u run outta ammo, 300 rounds, just go back to your save point and pick up another
Tomb Raider is cool as hell; my wife bought it for her to play, but as far as I know, shes never loaded it.
Ive messed around with gears of war, it is totally badass.
Lost Planet, I really havent messed with it too much yet, but I will...o yes....I will.
Prey sucked balls. Cool graphics, but the game play and movement just plain blew chunks.
Call of Duty is an excellent game. If you love blowing away nazi scum for a few hours outta your day, this game rocks.
Oh, have any of you guys noticed that Tomb Raider takes the button aspect from RE4. The cutscenes that involve you having to press a certain button order to escape danger. It took my totally by surprise and killed me the first cple times. But I liked that in RE4, and I'll get used to it on TR. Keeps you on your toes.

I am actually now on the stage before the final one. I had to actually get online and figure out the process of beating one of the mini-bosses though. It was a boss battle, but also a puzzle. And I figured out the crates. The stage AFTER the one I couldn't break them in posted a hint on how to aim shoot. Bah!

Sure haven't, but not exactly opposed to giving it a shot.

As for me and what I'm playing right now, I've gone back to playing my shooters again, in particular Dodonpachi and ESP Ra De because Cave are kick-ass game developers! [Thumbs Up] They just suck at marketing their games outside of Japan...that's why a lot of people are unaware of these great games. [Cry]

Sounds interesting! I've heard nothing but good things about that series, so I think I'll have to check it out some time. [Thumbs Up]

As for me and what I've been playing:
Gradius V (I've lost my groove on this sweet game, and need to get it back)
Dodonpachi (same thing on this one too)
ESP Ra De (I actually set a new high score on this one)

As much as I loved Twilight Princess, playing adventure games seems to have taken a toll on my knack for shooters. I actually find myself nervous when I have a literal blanket of bullets coming at me...when before I'd bite my lip and just dive in shooting.

Been thinking about trying to scrape the money together for a Japanese PS2...that way I can play Ibara, ESP Galuda, and Dodonpachi Daioujou. Such a crime that these games will never see a domestic release and I have to resort to this...

Nothin' at the moment though I just finished Hitman - Blood Money (PS2) which is a lil' too predictible [Roll Eyes] give that 6/10.

But "RESIDENT EVIL 4" (PS2) to me is the best game ever. The graphics are so good I reckon that It pushes the ps2 graphics processer to it's limits. Story, game, play 10/10... Can't wait for (if there is) Resident Evil 5 via PS3... [Joint]

What do you's think?

Posted by Lou Gojira (Member # 983) on :

I agree with you...Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 sure is a five star game. It's got a few faults, sure, but considering the quality you get in that game, it's really hard to want to dwell on those faults.

I'm personally hoping for a Resident Evil 5 on the Wii. That PS3 is waaaayyyy outta my price range, but I do want the next game in the series alright.

Glad you agree. I'm so glad that I gotta work mate who's a "game-freak" and plays everythin' via PS2. He gives me the info of what to play and what not to. Online gamin' reviews just don't cut it.

I think it really depends on your genre. My Nephew is a Striaght Action and he doesn't rate Resident Evil 4 well as he doesn't follow the story and rushes/skips the important parts to get straight to the action. He's more of a 'KILLZONE' and 'Sum Of All Fears' dude.

My work mate the Game-freak is more adventure and loves the story and the action later. Like Final Fantasy X and Devil May Cry Series

I fit right in the middle of these two and R.E 4 does it for me. Since my work mate plays everythin', he directed me to games that suit me and I definately ejoyed playin: GUN, Time Splitters - Future Perfect. He's now Directin' me to God Of War.

I ain't playin' anythin' at the moment because I'm still high on Wu and hangin out here readin' up on experiences and views. But I guess when the ethusiasm runs down (If It Does) I'll go back to the PS2.

I may even play a P.C game I promised my brother I'll get to on durin' my time off this forum. I've had this game for years and haven't got to it yet.... You familiar with Aliens vs Preditor (P.C)? I've always sed I'll get around to it but never have.....

No, sorry, I don't play any P.C. games at all. Not that I have anything against them, I'm just hung up on consoles and emulators.

I'm pretty much a straight-up action freak myself when it comes to video games (just give me a shooter, for example Dodonpachi or Shikigami no Shiro, and I'm in total bliss)...about the most "laid back" I like my games to be would be on the level of, say, Resident Evil 4 or Twilight Princess, where you have to pay attention to certain clues or whatever at times, and then it's back to fast paced action. Strategies and RPG's are swell, and I used to love 'em to death, but anymore my attention span is so short I really can't focus on 'em.

As for what I've been playing this week:

Still trying to get my game on with Gradius V(PS2), and failing pretty badly. It stinks that I used to whoop some ass on that game and now I'm almost sucking at it.

Been enjoying the heck out of Shikigami no Shiro II aka Castle Shikigami 2(PS2)...been lucking out on this intense little underdog of a shooter lately.

Been thinking pretty seriously here lately about by-passing the Wii for another year and getting myself a Japanese PS2 instead. If I could find a Japanese PS2, along with Ibara, Dodonpachi Daioujou, and ESP Galuda, then that's a sale already in the bag. That Wii sure is pretty, but I'm hopelessly hung up on shooters, and sadly we don't get nearly half of these beautiful types of games here in the West that come out in Japan. I guess most folks aren't into highly intense games or something. [Cry]

Just for fun, check out some of the youtube vid's of these sweet looking video games:

Man, how can you not want to play this?! Mass destruction all over the place, bad ass soundtrack...excuse me while I wipe the drool from my chin. [Drool]

Dodonpachi Daioujou stage 1
Sadly, the guy drops the ball on the boss and loses his combo count, but still a neat vid.

ESP Galuda stage 1
Damn, check out the bullet patterns on that boss! Intense looking game to say the least! [Thumbs Up]

I just got Atari 2600: 80 Classic Games In One for my computer, and have been playing Video Pinball when I have time. I'm kinda bummed Pitfall isn't on this thing though.

HOLY SHIT! [Thud]

I cant believe I've had this game sittin' in my draw for 2 years.... 2 years ago my brother gave me a PC game to play and said it was pretty good. I told him I'll get around to it but never have since I ain't fond of PC games..... UNTIL NOW.. "Aliens vs Predator 2". I've only gotten past the first level and it's scaring the shit outta me [Eek!] ... Graphics wise it's ok (considering it's an oldie) but with the incredible sound and dark scenery.... This game is a bloodfest and ain't for the faint hearted.... [Violent] I'm definately gonna see this one thru if I can still hold my balls in tact.....

The best time to play is at night with the lights off and the headphones up. Your heart will definately get a workout..... [Eek!]

I've been playing the old "Medal of Honor" game on the PC. I never got to finish the thing the first time I started playing it on my old computer due to it crashing and burning. Gameplay and graphics still hold up for me even though its about 5 years old.

Yeah okay, so I'm a little "behind the times" on a lot of things, and video games are certainly one of them. But even though I'm a later-comer, I have to say that God of War on the PS2 is simply bad-ass! I picked it up last week for $20 (along with The Venture Brothers season 2 on DVD...I LOVE this show!), and this is another game that I have to make myself stop playing so I can do other things...like, you know, going to bed on time, going to work the next day, eatting, etc...

Right now I'm up to Poseiden's Challenge, I'm guessing that's the second big foray into Pandora's Temple. Got my knives leveled up to level 3, Zeus' arrows up to level 2, and Poseiden's Rage up to level 2, closing in on 3. I can only hope I'm doing alright at it...

All that aside, Kratos is one bad son of a bitch! I thought I wouldn't like him much when the game first started, being as you're rewarded by killing innocent people, therefore encouraged to do it...I thought he'd be yet another "too bad for his own good anti-heroes"...but as the story reveals parts of his past and what lead him to where he is now, it all starts to make sense.

Plus, the fact that all the girls in the game are either showing their boobs, running around barefoot, or both, really doesn't hurt the appeal of this game either! [Thumbs Up]

Other than this game, I'm giving my friend some money next week for his trip to Japan in hopes that he'll find me a Japanese PS2 and the phenomenal shooter Ibara. Here's hoping he scores! [Fingers Crossed]

Just camped out front of my local Best Buy this morning an hour for Pokemon Pearl. Right now, I'm really hung up on my DS, and I dont think Pokemon games will ever get old.

I also just beat Shadow of the Colossus and Castlevania: Portriat of Ruin, both phenomanal games. SotC especially, and I expect anyone on this forum with a PS2 to grab it immediately, especially if you like your boss battles epic

Incredibly...I just played and beat A Link to the Past for the first time recently. Seriously, I couldn't put it down once I started playing it, and it made me remember how hard games used to be back in the day.

I think I'll start on Ocarina of Time next, mixed in with occasional games of Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Tekken 5.

That is a damn good game Bro...you're gonna love it! [Thumbs Up]

I just got two words of warning for you when it comes to Ocarina of Time...Water Temple! Be ready for the pain to commence when you get to that point. I nearly dropped my controller and cried like a little girl several times in that wretched place...but once I finally whipped it the game was pure Zelda goodness again and all the way to the end. In fact, once you figure out the Water Temple it won't be as intimidating the next time you want to play through this sweet game...just be ready to knuckle down and master the sucker the first time you get there.

Ahhhh, a Link to the Past! My first ever Zelda game i played...and funnily enough, i really didnt like it the first time i played it (ok i was young)...all i wanted to do was attack guards! Haha. But yeah, i soon settled down and really got into it...

You're really gonna be blown away by Ocarina of Time. Sensational game...i still look upon that very favourably as the best Zelda game of all time. Its a whole new world out there!

And as Lou pointed out...Water Temple...*shudder*. Haha...it really was a tougie...so much so that i fear the moment Water Temples crop up in the newer installments of the game!

I've just finished Twilight Princess now...great game....still dont think it eclipses OoT (Ocarina of Time) though.

Still playing God of War and STILL getting my ass handed to me in that final fight with Ares. I can whip him that first time, go to the cross-dimensional plane and got through that (the first time I got there, now I can't even get through that), but then get WHIPPED when Ares takes my Chaos Blades and all my magic. [Cry]

I refuse to play the game in Easy Mode, so I'll either have to beat it in Normal (at least) or I'll just have to set it down and get back to it later. It was one heck of a ride getting to Ares though...and that stage over the river Styx was particularly awesome.

I also picked up Raiden III(PS2), and naturally, it being a 2D shooter I'm going to be biased toward liking it already. How does it stack up along side the likes of Ikaruga and Gradius V? Well, it doesn't...those two games SMOKE Raiden III...but on it's own it's an intense enough game, the graphics do the job, and the fact that we don't get too many 2D shooters here in the U.S. anymore automatically makes this a game to go out and pick up.

The gmaes I'm playing lately:

God of War (PS2)
&
Dragon Blaze (MAME)

I decided that I'm not going to get a Japanese PS2 after all. Yeah, it'd be cool as hell to get to play shooters like Ibara and E.S.P. Galuda at home, but I can't justify the purchase of another system just for a handful of good games. Maybe if I had more money and less bills it'd be feasible, but not where I stand financially at the moment. Bummer... [Cry]

Ahhhh...sweet choice of games there Brother! [Thumbs Up]

Speaking of Final Fight, did you ever get to play the Sega CD version of that game? Man, they totally reworked the soundtracks, and added an extra level to an already excellently long game. Of course they added more clothes on the women, which sucked, and they changed the sound clip from "Oh my God..." when the guy see's his car totaled to "Oh my car...", but otherwise that was a goodie of a game.

I haven't done much gaming this week...but I did give Dragon Blaze a few rounds this morning, and set a new high score on it.

I've been watching a lot of game clips on youtube lately...one Samurai Shodown 6 to be exact! Man, I used to love this series, and part 6 has ALL of the characters in there, plus some new ones! It's a shame we'll probably NEVER see this awesome game stateside...

Resident Evil 4, no matter how many times you have beaten it, you always want to play more (or at least I do). So far I have the Chicago Typewriter, Infinate Rocket Launcher, and the Hand Cannon (Mercinaries mode took me so long to beat, but once I got the use the Hand Cannon in campaign mode I felt as if I was playing it for the very first time). Plus it's just fun trying to beat the game on hard with weaker guns, trying to kill with kicks and suplexes, there is also Assignment Ada (kind of easy, but you get the Chicago Typewriter once you complete it).

No... But now I wish I did. Nah I didn't get to the Sega CD at all.. I might aswell give you the stages of Consoles I've ever had startin' from oldest to newest...

Grandstand
Atari 2600
Atari 7800
Sega Master System 2
Sega Megadrive
Playstation 2

So I skipped a couple of stages in consoles as the Nintendo's (Standard, Super and 64) Sega CD and the PS1...

I want to get my hands on Splinter Double agent, but gotta finish my Chaos Theory first... I haven't restarted Chaos Theory since last year, I think I might rid the old data of the game from my memory card and start again from scratch but see what happenz...

Has anyone played any of the flight simulator type games on the 360? I've been on this war kick as of late, watching the Military Channel, going to DC and seeing the War Memorials and learning a little what my grandfather did in WWII. I went and got Call of Duty 2, which is great. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the air combat games on 360.

FINALLY got around to picking up a joystick controller for my PS2, and immediately got King of Fighters '02 & '03 so I could put it to the test! [Thumbs Up]

Tekken 5 was a pack-in with the joystick, and though that game is real beauty in terms of graphics, I never really could get into 3D fighters. They just never had the intensity or the impact that the 2D greats accomplished.

But as it stands, I'm back in the saddle with the KOF series...man, I never realized how much I truly missed those cool characters! [Woot]

Now I just have to get back in the groove and wire these characters' moves all over again...and not merely 'survive' the fights... [Blush]

Nowadays I play a game called Romance of the Three Kingdoms for PS2, I get razed about it alot because there are no real graphics and the whole point behind it is to unify ancient China through political Negotiations etc.. [Big Grin]

But to kill time I still play quite a bit of Hitman

I went lookin' thru my Mame list and it didn't have any of them, so I had to go fishin' for the ROMs and found them, I have 3 Mame Emulators and my main one couldn't play it and my secondary one couldn't either.... I was about to give up but thought may as well give my 3rd one a try, and it worked!!!

I'm not really a fan of these type of games but have just played all 3 of your suggestions and all I can say is.... [Thud] H..O..L..Y S..H..I..T..!!! [Thud] Talk about kick-ass... Cool coz you start off with an already powerful fire and doesn't take much to power up to POWER-CRAZY FIRE!!! Makes me feel powerful and puts a BIG FAT SMILE on my face when I play these.... hang-on I gotta a better discription..... Makes me feel like "A BAD MUTHER-FUCKER!!!! [Big Grin]

I sorta get the same feelin' when I play "Street Fighter II'- Champion Edition" "RAINBOW SET 2".... If you've never played this version of the game (Rainbow set II), Choose Guile and use the Slow Sonic Boom quickly and as many times as you can.... You'll have a whole screen of em' and when the first Boom hits the target... Throw a few fast ones.... You gotta try it.... You can also morph into other players by pushin' the start button, try Vega's Rollin' Flash/Thunder (Whateva it's called)... AWESOME!!!!

Thanx for heaps the suggestions, [Thumbs Up] YEAH!!!!!

No problem my friend...glad you enjoyed the games. Now here's a challenge...see how far you can get on those games without using any continues! [Wink]

That's my thing. I'll play through a "bullet hell" type of shooter at least once using continues just to see all the bells and whistles the game has to offer...but then the obsession kicks in on trying to MASTER these games, maximizing my scores and doing it in as few of lives as possible. I've managed to get pretty alright on some of them, but then I go here, download some movies of the games I'm trying to whip, and totally realize how much I utterly suck at these lovely games! [Big Grin]

Keep playing those shooters Bro...you'll quickly realize that few games can match the levels of intensity and fun that shooters can deliver! [Thumbs Up]

Picked up Metal Slug Anthology over the weekend for the PS2, and finally got a chance yesterday to sit down and give it a whirl. I already own Metal Slug 1 & 2 on the Neo Geo CD, and Metal Slug 3 on the Neo Geo home cartridge system, but Anthology gives you 1, 2, X, 3, 4, 5, and for the first time on home systems Metal Slug 6! For $40 this game sure gives you A LOT for your money.

If you're a fan of run-n-gun style shooters like Contra or Gunstar Heroes, you owe it to yourself to pick up Metal Slug Anthology. [Thumbs Up]

Interesting. I wish they'd shown some footage of actual gameplay, unless that is the actual gameplay and I'm mistaken. I'm just glad that Capcom is finally making another fighting game. I've always been way more of an SNK fanboy when it comes to fighters, and I always liked Capcom more for games like Resident Evil 4 and Strider 2, but I can always appreciate a good fighting game. Thanks for the link. [Thumbs Up]

As for the game I'm playing lately...still geeking on KOF 2003. KOF XI is supposed to be out on the 28th, and I don't want to be rusty at all when I finally get that beauty of a game home and start playing it. [Mmm]

I´d love to play that one (never played it before)...we`re actually playing the Gameboy version of "Link`s Awakening" (Zelda # 7, I think).
We started playing it on the Gameboy but the cardridge has an error...it kept crashing at a certain point (had to restart twice)...now we`re playing it on my pc with a cool Gameboy emulator...even lets you speed things up and save the gameplay at any point you like. And it`s fun playing it on a large screen.

Still playing KOF 2003 like it's going out of style, and doing a lot of "roulette" when it comes to character selection. Too often the temptation of going with characters I have wired gets me, and I wind up neglecting to learn other characters. Still having a total blast on this one.

Well, as of this writing, amazon.com still has KOF XI with a release date of 11/13/07...so come on November 13th! Man I hope this game doesn't get pushed back again. If it does, you're going to see me cry like a little girl with a skinned knee, and let me tell you, there's nothing more pathetic than watching a fat boy cry. [Cry]

That's what kills me about some of those Gameboy games...especially the Castlevania series! Unless you play those games on a bigger screen, you're going to miss a whole lot of the graphical detail those artists and programmers put in. All that work and attention to detail gets compromised with a smaller, portable screen.

That's what kicked my ass over Konami finally wising up and releasing Dracula X here in America. That's a real beauty of a game, but the damned thing is going to the PSP! WHY can't they release it on the PS2 as well? How come these companies feel the need to regulate 2D gaming to portables? I just don't get it...

You`re absolutely right...that was the first thing I noticed. All those details that are lost on a tiny Gameboy screen. For example, I never noticed that the flowers in Zelda are swaying in the wind...something you can only recognize on a large screen.

I dug out my Ultima Collection from the archives and have loaded it on the computer. I had to download a program called "dosbox" to act as an emulator to run those old games on the modern system. I'm trying to give Ultima VIII Pagan another go. I played it back in '94, but got sick of it close to the end. Let's see if I can finish it 13 years later...

Although I was never an Ultima player I always heard it was pretty addictive. In my old school there were people playing it in the 80s...mostly the same people that enjoyed games like "The Bards Tale" or "Heart of Africa", if you remember those.
I was always more into text adventures than into RPGs.

Yeah, I loved Zork and almost all the Infocom text adventures, although they were quite a pain in the ass to play on the C-64 with constant disk drive loading and they were very expensive over here in Germany and hard to find, too. I loved the packaging and the gimmicks that came with some of the games. Later on it was more fun to play them on the Amiga or the PC, as those computers had enough memory to stop the annoying loading (I actually bought a CD a few years ago with every single Infocom adventures + instructions...a real bargain).

I seriously miss those great old text adventures with graphics...like the games from Magnetic Scrolls, Melbourne House, Level 9 and Adventure Soft. Ahhh, those were the days [Wink] It´s an abandoned artform.

What is more amusing is showing my 10 year old games like that and telling her how I could spend hours at a time playing it when I was younger.

At least you had the disc drive. I remember playing one game on a friend's TRS-80 that had a cassette drive. Remember those? It took about 15 minutes to load the program into memory. Of course if you died you had to start over by rewinding and then reloading the game again. Mind you that was just a text and simple lo-res graphix game too.

That's when I quickly learned what a piece of shit computer that was and pushed my parents for the (snicker) top of the line at the time Apple IIe with two disc drives. I think we got that back in '83. They still had it until the early 90's when they finally broke down and bought a Pentium 1 PC when that was the fresh technology.

Still playing KOF XI like it's nobody's business. The thing that sort of bothers me, as much as I appreciate the price of this game ($15 brand new), is that it's worth every bit of $50 or so like the "hot" releases. It just doesn't seem "right" that this much quality is being sold at that asking price. I know, stupid complaint...oh well, back to playing! [Woot]

Still having a ball on KOF XI, and I think I've got a newfound interest/infatuation in Elisabeth Blanctorche. Who is she you ask? Well, take a look at the cover of the game...

 -
(the image is a gif, so please ignore the crappy edges on this black background)

Elisabeth's that little hottie-boom-ba-lottie down in front with the white duds, short hair, and looks like she's got an attitude problem. I underestimated this new girl from day one, thinking her attacks are subpar, her strength levels weren't worth the trouble, etc...but man, I got on a roll today using her, Duolon, and Benimaru, and I think she wound up leaving those guys in the dust! I've been a fairly decent Benimaru player since '94, a so-so Duolon player since '03, but as of '07 I think I've fallen for Elisabeth. If you want a short and sweet demo of this lady's attack power, check out this link:

Elisabeth dots Adelheid's eye, and then some!

I wanted to get Call of Duty 4 and my cousin was singing the praise of Mass Effect all day long on Christmas. He said it is like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in that you can become good or evil. I'm also thinking of getting Area 51 Blacksite. Anyone play any of these yet? The previews for Star Wars The Force Unleashed looked awesome too.

You're right...Tomb Raider Legend was an awesome one. I have it for my GameCube, but I only played it just long enough to get the "barefoot Laura" outfit unlocked, and haven't gone back to it just yet. I really need to finish it.

As for what I'm playing, I'm still hopelessly hung up on King of Fighters XI, and today I accomplished my first Dream Cancel! I couldn't believe it, but I did it with Bonne Jenet, one of my favorite characters, so that made it a little extra cool. Check out this clip of Jenet's Dream Cancel...
Jenet gives new meaning to the term "shoe play"

I also pulled off my first Super Cancel with Benimaru, which was pretty cool too.

Of course here I am feeling all accomplished and everything, but if I ever had to play this game in a tournament they'd mop the floor with my ass! Check out how the pro's play it, and know that I can't even come close...not yet anyway...
Maxima and Oswald...that's all this guy needs.
Some great playing with Blue Mary!
Okay, I play a better Elisabeth than this guy...

I played Tomb Raider Anniversary for my 360 last night and I had tons of fun. I was going to stop playing to put in my Call of Duty 4, but I went into the Croft Manor for the hell of it and got addicted to completing that. For a $39 dollar game brand new, I totally recommend Tomb Raider Anniversary. It plays just like Legend and I never did much with the original TR titles for PS1 because they were so damn hard, so this is all new to me.

Patrick

P.S. I just bought a Wii on eBay a couple of days ago and I picked up Zelda Twilight Princess and Resident Evil Umbrella Cronicles. I'll let you know what I think about those when the system gets here this week. I'm a huge Zelda and RES Evil fan.

This game alone could damn near sell me on the Wii. Of course there's other games on the Wii that look good too, but Umbrella Chronicles looks like a total blast-a-thon that I would eat up! That mission where you get to play as Hunk looks especially intriguing, being as he's such a bad mofo already. [Big Grin]

I just wish there was a guarantee that RE5 was going to make to the Wii. If that were the case, I'd have bought one already...

As for what I'm playing lately, I've had to put KOF XI on hold until I can figure out a way to keep the buttons on my joystick from jamming up. The "O" button is starting to stick, (the button I use for the strong punch) and I can't figure out how to fix it without dismantling the whole darn thing. I sent an e-mail to Hori about it...I wish they'd get back with me.

So in the meantime it's Mario vs Donkey Kong on the Gameboy Advance. I never did finish the game before, and considering how slow Hori is to respond to an e-mail, it looks like I'll have adequate time to finish it now.

Ah yeah...good ol' Alex Kidd...Sega's original answer to Nintendo's Mario. It's a shame that Alex's games all sort of fell flat after such a good game as Miracle World...though Lost Stars was good for it's time, graphically anyway...

Did you know that there's an anime of Alex Kidd? I never could track down a tape or anything of it though. I always wondered what kind of story they could come up with for Alex's world.

I know this isn't completely on topic, but have you guys ever heard of the Zelda titles that came out on the old Phillips CDi system years ago? No Zelda/Nintendo site will make mention of these games and when I even went as far as to email Nintendo and ask if they knew where I could buy these games, they seemed like the games were not legit and wanted to know where I had seen them (hello, internet!?!?!?). Here is the box covers of those 3 games:

Here is what the game play looked like:

Doing a little web surfing a few years ago I read that these titles were originally a go with Nintendo as Phillips was producing the first CD based system components for Nintendo (like the Sega CD), but they pulled the plug. Aparently after the fallout, Nintendo pulled the rights for the Zelda content, but some games were released already. Not sure how true that is, but these games are out there and cost a pretty penny on eBay.

Its actually a very interesting story. Nintendo wanted to make a CD based platform and contacted Sony to make it. Sony was the one who made there Music chips and they agreed to make it. Nintendo however backed out of the deal and worked with Phillips, but they backed out again. Nintendo didnt like wat philips was making but they signed a contract with philips and they demanded that nintendo let some of there games be on the Phillips CD-I as it was then called. There was of course, the awful legend of Zelda games and some really bad Mario games. Sony on the other hand, continued to work on what they had originally made for nintendo and called it the playstation!
nintendo went ahead and made its own system, codenamed dolphin aka the nintendo 64 which we all know to be cartridge based opposed to the cd format

that lead to the PS vs the N64 console war
and for the philips? lets just say.....it didnt stand a chance

sorry, im a video game nerd [Big Grin]

Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda's Adventure.

they are so bad and so dispised, that nintendo refuses to acknowledge they exist and they not canon to the story

Speaking of Zelda games, I've been hooked on Zelda -The Minish Cap since sometime last week. When I say hooked, I'm not talking about really digging it and having a ball on the thing...I'm doing that of course, but I'm also obsessed with the damned game...even thinking about what to do next on it when I'm not able to play it!

That's not to say that I think Minish Cap is the best Zelda game out there. It's a damn fine one without a doubt, and if you haven't played it then you really need to check it out. It's just that I get that way whenever I fire up a Zelda game and delve into that particular game's adventure for the first time. If I were to say which Zelda title was my personal fave, it'd be a really close call between Twilight Princess and Wind Waker...loved them both to no end, but comparing the two is like apples and oranges, so I can't decide.

Wonderboy III sure was awesome, and looked really nice while being awesome, but most graphically packed? I don't know Bro...if I were to cast a vote in that direction, I'd either have to go with Phantasy Star or Fantasy Zone II -The Tears of Opa Opa. [Thumbs Up]

BTW, did you ever play any of the other Monster World titles that followed after Wonderboy III? There were a few that hit all three of the 16-bit platforms, but only around three of them (to my knowledge) ever made it to these shores, and one of them was nothing more than a 16-bit re-print of The Dragon's Trap (which was put on a huCard for the Turbo)! [Cry]

The last Monster World title that I ever saw had switched out Wonderboy with some new female character. It was probably one sweet game, but considering all the text those games had at times, a Japanese import would've been a waste of money for a guy like me...who can't read Japanese enough to make any sense of it.

Of course that didn't stop me from buying the Samurai Shodown RPG for the Neo Geo CD, but that's a whole other story. [Smile]

I'm totally hooked on Wii Sports too! I've been playing tennis or boxing everyday, whenever I need a break from my desk and want a little workout. It's too funny to see me actually sweating from a video game!

Bowling has been great when I've had friends over too. I bought Smarty Pants (a trivia one) and that's been lots of fun. You have to raise your Wii-mote to buzz in for each question. Even the trivia games have some kind of exercise component though...you have to do a "double points dance". Ha ha!

I really get into tennis and baseball - my shoulder is still sore! [Laugh] I had no idea that it would be that strenuous. I haven't tried boxing yet, but I can imagine it'll be fun. Smarty Pants sounds pretty good - my wife and I both love trivia games. [Big Grin]

Finally finished up The Minish Cap earlier today, though it was with less than 100%. I was missing the fourth of the four bottles you could own, I didn't get the Light Arrows, and I didn't finish up my figurine collection either. As much as I sucked at the game (now that I stop to think about all the things I didn't accomplish), it was still a pretty good Zelda title. It's not going to de-throne Wind Waker or Twilight Princess as an all-time best Zelda game, but it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the series.

I'm not sure what my next game is going to be. Hori never got back with me about the joystick, and I sure as hell ain't going to play KOF XI with a control pad...so I'm undecided. I'm thinking about giving Tomb Raider Legend a serious go (that is, do more on the game besides getting a barefoot Lara Croft unlocked), but I'm also hankering to fire up one of the aforementioned Zelda games on my GameCube.

Sorry, I only read your reply today. I think both games are from around 2003/2004. The double-pack GBA cartridge is from 2007, I think. I found it in a supermarket for only $ 5...along with a bunch of other amazing GBA games at that low price.

I had to replace my PS3 about a month or so ago and I got the 160GB version that came with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I played through that about a week ago and really enjoyed it. I went and bought Uncharted 2 last night and am loving this one as well. For anyone who is a fan of the Tomb Raider series, pick this up. The puzzles are not as common and are a lot easier in this one. You'll find more shooting and action sequences. The stories are awesome as well.

The games themselves don't have any added content from what I've read. It's the actual gameplay that has been updated to the HD and the framerate has a constant 60 frames per second (fps) rate instead of occasional 60 fps rates.

I just finished the desert stage and am now seeking Pandora's Box in God of War 1. I haven't even played 2 yet, but I can say I'll be getting the third one when it comes out.

2) Forza Motorsports 3 (Xbox 360)
3) Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (PC)

Also still playing Fallout 3 (PC). Except for slightly better visuals and effects, I don't think COD Modern Warfare 2 lives up to the hype and chart-busting sales. Checkpoint saves too far apart, dumb AI with with excessive spawning, and bugs galore. The first Modern Warfare was definitely the better game.

1) Chrono Trigger (SNES)
2) Final Fantast VI (SNES)
3) Tekken 6 (xBox 360)

Been on a bit of a SNES bender lately. Played through chrono trigger like 4 times in the past two weeks. Seeing as it's the best game ever made.

Beat God of War 1. Man, are those bladed rotating columns a pain in the ass or what? I was about to go old school and throw the controller like in the days of Genesis.

Started God of War 2. Just left the cave with the Titan. Liking it so far.

Has anyone here played the first Assassain's Creed for the PS3? It's a greatest hit title now and is only $20 at Best Buy. Was thinking about getting it. The second one is getting awesome reviews, but I'd want to play the first one first.

Hey, Patrick. I played the first Assassin's Creed it was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend getting it, especially if you're considering getting the second one, as the story picks up right where the first one ends. I've also played a bit of II and it's a lot of fun too and they greatly improved upon the gameplay of the first game.

I am currently playing TMNT. I think I'll just play this game for a week and then return it and get my money back. Does anyone here shop at Gamestop? Why rent games for 5 days at Game Crazy when you can just get a used game at GameStop, play it for a week, return it and get your money back?

Because around here you buy a game for $60 bucks and sell it back for $30 (if lucky), or buy it for $30 and sell it back for $10 (if lucky).

No Patrick, that's not what I mean. Some people only want to rent games and not own them. They have to pay like $5 or so to rent a game for 5 days. I figure I can work the system by just buying a used game and then return it after 7 days (which is the limit) and get my money back. Why wouldn't people who just want to rent games do what I just did?

Patrick, God of War II is pretty intense isn't it? One of my favorite titles in my collection, though I'm a bit peeved because my console keeps wrecking my GoW 1 discs.

How is that? It looks amazing. Bayonetta and Dante's Inferno look like they might be good pick ups too.

Patrick

P.S. All these teasers for Mass Effect 2 and I never played the first one that I picked up used at a store for like $12.

Its not bad, Its taken a while for it to grow on me but its pretty decent. Its like if Zelda and Devil May Cry had a baby but the baby was born with annoying controls and a sometimes wonky camera.

I downloaded the demo for Bayonetta and its very fun. Its just like playing Devil May Cry, only the character is female. Will more than likely buy it in a couple months.

I did get the New Super Mario Bros. on Wii and think it's fun for what it is. I'm glad to see someone understand that there is still a market for a simple side scroller. Now if Nintendo would make me another top down Zelda title that isn't on the DS, I'll be a very happy man.
