I know that there are other threads like this but just had to go into a lil' more detail coz this could mean not only movies but also concert DVD/Videos, Family recordings, Adult Movies, Old T.V show/sports-game recordings......etc...

Good idea for a thread Bro. I'm a DVD watching fool, and prefer that to going to theatres.

The last things I watched on DVD were:

1.Married with Children (season 5) It gets a 9 out of 10 because not only is this show damn near a laugh a minute, but you just don't see families that are as dysfunctional as they are likeable like the Bundy's on TV anymore. Add to that the characters...those actors literally became the Bundy's once the camera was rolling.

2.Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story (a.k.a. White Slave) It gets an 8.5 out of 10, and avoids scoring a perfect 10 only because there's one too many loin-cloth wearing tribesmen dudes running around in some parts of the movie. But if you can overlook these boner-killing parts (and thankfully there's only a few of them), Elvire Audray (the girl playing Catherine Miles) MORE than makes up for it! This girl is GORGEOUS...slim, sexy, long blonde hair, nicely tanned, and lest I forget topless and BAREFOOT through 95% of the movie! [Jerkoff]
The story is a decent one too...plenty of action and some parts will keep you guessing. The blood is cheesy-fake (at times, other times the gore is pretty impressive), the voice-over's are kinda' lame, and there is a "rape" scene in it that gets a little too graphic as well. Otherwise, I say pick this movie up...Elvire Audray will leave your tongue hanging out of your mouth, and your heart pounding for more! This girl is mouth-watering hot... [Mmm]

That's it for now. [Cool]

I'm a member of Blockbuster Online so I've got a constant stream of DVDs coming in weekly. Last night we watched an old 70's movie "Audry Rose" starring Anthony Hopkins with a full head of brown hair. Tonight we're going to watch "The Last King of Scotland" starring Forestt Witaker.

This afternoon I watched a bootleg DVD of Metallica's March 4th, 1989 concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Last night I watched "Flushed Away" and it was pretty good.

Over the last weeks I watched all five seasons of "Curb your Enthusiasm" on DVD. I would give it a 9/10.

Re-watched Vice Squad again today, and saw a few more episodes of The Boondocks too. I sure hope they make a second season of The Boondocks, that show's hilarious! [Thumbs Up]

*oops* Forgot the ratings...

Vice Squad gets an 8 out of 10. Damn good story, one bad-assed villain pimp named Ramrod, one hot-assed prostitute lead named Princess, with a whole lot of action, misogyny, and general sleaze all the while. The reason this film doesn't rate higher is that Princess NEVER goes barefoot. On the upside, Nina Blackwood (of MTV VJ fame in the early 80's) has a small role in the movie, and we do get to see at least one of her bared feet, right as Ramrod ties her up and before he beats the hell clean out of her with a wire hanger...and not to mention Princess has a body to die for (only if you're a little-bitty-titties fan like I am). If only she'd lost them hooker heels this movie would easily rank higher. Still worth checking out though! [Thumbs Up]

The Boondocks gets a 7.5 out of 10, because you're either going to laugh your ass off or you're going to be offended with the show, depending on your personal sensitivities, so I can't recommend this to just any ol' body. The animation is superb and really eye-catching a lot of the time, and the voices and the characters are well done too. The biggest problem I have is with the main character Huey. He's basically a black kid male version of Lisa Simpson, and she's been my least favorite of the whole Simpsons family for a long while. Riley, his little brother, more than makes up for the preaching Huey can sometimes fall into, so I guess it balances out. Check this one out, but only if you're not easily offended.

The last movie I saw on DVD, or period, really, was my little brother's copy of The Godfather recently. Needless to say, that movie is like a 14 out of 10. Before that, I saw Casino, which is like a 9.5 out of 10 for me, another excellent movie. I'll probably watch the next two Godfather movies after that.

My wife rented some horrible indie horror slasher flick yesterday called "Dead End Road." It earns a 1 star out of 10 easily for being such a dreadful movie.

There was a serial killer in it that was known as the "Poe" killer because he murders his victims like they died in Edgar Allen Poe's stories. The guy dresses in a corny top hat and clothing to look like he's dressing like Poe, but ends up looking just like Dr. Demento instead.

Truely rancid! Who is the real Poe Killer???

Finally got around to getting the Dungeons & Dragons animated series on DVD for myself, and have been enjoying it since yesterday. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10 because it's certainly a great series of cartoons that are still enjoyable even now that I'm older...much much older...than when it was on TV (and unless I'm mistaken, that was sometime in '83). It doesn't get an 8 or 9 because now that I'm so much older and way more jaded than I was as a kid, I'm spotting a whole lot of animation flaws that I wouldn't have spotted before.

That's not to say that the animation stinks by today's "standards"...in a whole lot of ways Dungeons & Dragons is far superior to a lot of the drek passing for cartoons that these poor kids have to settle for now-a-days...but there's still some sloppy flaws in the art from time to time that kinda' unnerve me.

And of course since it's a cartoon aimed at kids, and since TV supposedly has the job of raising kids here in America, the characters as well as the villains tend to "pull punches" all the time. You know...somebody has a clear shot at somebody else in a fight, and what do they do? They tie them up, or punch the ground, or some dumb shit...never going for the straight-shot kill.

Regardless, this series comes highly recommended by me, and if you long for those wondrous trips down memory lane you simply can't go wrong in picking up this show, or others like it now that they're on DVD. All we need now is a DVD release of Mighty Orbots, Thundarr the Barbarian and Manta and Moray, and my personal quest for living in the past will be much closer to complete. [Big Grin]

Just picked this up last weekend:

Afro Samurai - I like becuase it doesn't go so deep like many other animes (which I don't mind at all), but it is purely a revenge plot like so many other anime (and so many other movies, too). But just the style and the look of the series alone drew me in. Add to that a great soundtrack by the RZA and voiceovers by Samuel L. Jackson, Ron Perlman and Kelly Hu, it's bound to be a classic. 10/10

I've just finished watching Series 1 of UK 70's cop show Life on Mars. Bloody brilliant. Best character: Gene Hunt, played by Phil Glennister. I love his one-liners. The great thing about this show is that there's no stupid political correctness in it. Think The Sweeney meets Minder and you're half there. Good stories, superb filming and great characters. I would recommend this to anyone who has a dry/ironic sense of humour. Funniest if you can remember what 70s policing was all about: No Mr Nice Guy, questions follow the punch-up, we could get away with going back to work pissed after a lunch consisting of a few lager chasers, and we could get away with cracking un-PC jokes. Best thing the BBC has produced in a long time. Series 2 has just aired and its on my "want list". 10/10, no question.

Awesome movie/doco there toesuckerryan... I give it an 8.5 outta 10 coz it shows the life of an average workin' dude makin' a livin' [Smile] I see alot of people within the film look down on him and his colleagues as if they were nothin' or low class...

It puts the camera through his perspective of lifes everyday experiences. Even though alotta people look down on him, I look up to him of how he deals with his life and From my point of view, One of the most successful citizens of Australia... [Thumbs Up]

I highly recommend this to all people who don't have full-time office jobs....

For me it didn't age too well. I think I saw it for the first time when it came out and I was 18. The thing that killed it is mainly the FX which were kind of cheesey even by '86 standards. Brundle Fly after his complete transformation moved around like a bad puppet.

Luv movies that have a thing to do with time minipulation (eg. Back to the Future Series, Groundhog day, Frequency) but also with added thriller types in the tradition of Butterfly Effect and Event Horizon...

I give "The Jacket" 7.5/10 [Wink]

The Road Warrior from the early 80s. I watched it with my daughter and she totally loved it. I gotta get the other two Mad Max movies for her to see now. I guess I would give it a 7 for a fairly violent all action no brains flick.

It's a total crime that a Mad Max IV was never made...they had a cool world, lots of action just waiting to happen, and all kinds of potential to keep expanding on everything. I kept thinking it'd be cool if somehow Max got back in league with The Bronze, and this way they could've passed the buck off to a younger actor to take the lead, then they could've kept on going with new stories since Mel has gotten so much older and all...oh well...

I haven't seen it on DVD yet, but I've got the entire series, that is every single episode of Red Dwarf on the way in an 18 disk box set. Amazon was running a sale, and the box set was dropped by $100 or so in the price, so I snapped it up. I'm gonna feel the pinch from that money going out, but man I can't wait to get this! I LOVED what I got to see of the series on VHS, and I got three of the novels (maybe there's more, I dunno)...so this is gonna be sweet. I'll be sure to get on here and gush aplenty once I'm digging this great show. [Thumbs Up]

Just saw Beerfest..from the Broken Lizard Comedy group...the ones that created Super Troopers and Puddle Cruiser. I rate Beerfest a 7 out of 10. Super Troopers was way more funny than this latest effort but still it does give a good few laughs not to mention some good drinking games I never seen before. Plus a cameo by Willie Nelson at the end. [Big Grin]

"A Bridge Too Far" tons of well known British and American actors in this WWII movie. The movie came out around '78 or so and I remember seeing it in the theaters then! This is many years before everything was made by the special effects CGI department which makes things look like you're watching a video game rather than a live action movie. I would highly recommend it to any of you that enjoy a good historical war movie. It runs close to 3 hours and I wouldn't recommend it for those with an MTV trained short attention span. Rating 8.5

OMG... Didn't hit the high note with me... I would rate it more of a 4.5... I guess I built myself a very high standard before watchin' it due to all the high reviews and star ratings...

I saw it at the movies didn't even realize it was in spanish/subtitled until the movie began coz it didn't state it in any of the reviews nor the adverts.... (thinikin' they played me for a sukkah [Laugh] ) Though some parts are very shocking and powerful [Smile]

"FEAST" Low Budget Horror flick with alotta blood.... Sumthin' you should see with the Mrs at night with the volume up.... A few familiar B-Grade actors/actresses in here and the film runs a lil' "off-paralell" to your typical horror-type genre....

Not a "must see" but somthin' to consider on your next DVD Store trip.....

I give it a 6.5 outta 10

I have "23" in my movie queue. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Last night we watched the movie "Airplane" that we own on DVD. It seemed to be the movie that started all the comedies that spoofed other movies with non stop sight gags and one liners and cast actors that were most often cast as serious rather than comedy actors. Very different for its time. Rate it about a 6.

Hard Rock Zombies 7 out of 10
Folks are either going to love or hate this flick. Those who hate it are probably going to dismiss it for the "through-the-roof" cheese factor, and those who love it are going to cherish it for the "through-the-roof" cheese factor. In other words, this movie makes no apologies, doesn't set out to have mass appeal, and either you'll "get it" or you won't. Personally speaking I watch movies for fun, I like to be entertained, and this one certainly delivers. Picture a cheeseball hair band getting killed, coming back as ridiculous looking zombies, and fighting Nazi's (yeap, Adolf Hitler is in this movie too)...only to turn the population of a small town into ghouls (afterward they're not all that different mentally, so no great loss really) and having to fight to protect the underaged girl that the lead singer is in love with ("I'm so in love but you're so young" no lie folks, those are the song lyrics). Yeah...that's the plot...like I say no apologies are made, and political correctness sort of gets kicked to the curb in the process. It would've scored an 8 if the gore was a little more believable, otherwise I say check it out and have a few laughs. [Thumbs Up]

In-movie music videos from Hard Rock Zombies:
"Na na na na na" No doubt about it, these guys are too cool for school. [Laugh]

"Cassie" He just met her, but he wants to spend his life with her. Um...didn't I see this guy on one of those "Dateline" specials? [Big Grin]

Massacre in Dinosaur Valley 8 out of 10
This is a very enjoyable flick for those who like lots of action, bare breasts, bare feet, and blood in their movies. Not only that, but we get two sets of villains...cannibals and slave drivers...so just when you think the movie is about to wind down the intensity picks up again. There's some over-the-top business in this one, but nothing too campy. The gore is pretty convincing in some parts too. And lest I forget, the two main girls are exceptionally cute, especially after they're stripped down and made to go topless and barefoot. It would've scored a 9 if the girls had lost their shoes earlier on...it seems like it takes so long for these ladies to lose their shoes and clothing...but once they do you won't be disappointed. Guys who appreciate the female anatomy...that is, obviously all you dudes reading this post right now...you need to go and check this one out! [Big Grin]

*edit: added links. Couldn't find any clips on Massacre in Dinosaur Valley...bummer.

[Big Grin]

I have Massacre In Dinosaur Valley, I got it in a box set with "Jungle Holocaust" and "Eaten Alive" two great cannibal vomitorium films, and I really enjoyed it. It's not bloody or gory like I expected it to be but it's pretty good nonetheless.

Hot fuzz.10/10.For those of you who like the comedy stylings of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, you have to see this!Again filled with various and sometimes obscure references to cinema and culture. And since I nom am the proud owner of a multi region dvd player, my version is straight outta Britain!

I got the movie in the three-pack too. [Big Grin]

Yeah...I hope my little write-up wasn't misleading. You're right Bro, while it's got some blood, it's not exactly a gore-fest...but the scenes we get are pretty gruesome. If I remember right, there was one pretty decent disembowelment (though I could swear I've seen that particular footage used in another cannibal type flick), and of course seeing the girl getting a claw raked through her tit made me wince. [Eek!]

I watched Eaten Alive this morning, and man...talk about a snooze waiting to happen! I sure hope Jungle Holocaust is better. Oh well, even if it isn't Massacre in Dinosaur Valley was worth the price of the box set. [Thumbs Up]

Speaking of cannibal flicks, have you ever seen Make Them Die Slowly? I saw this on VHS probably 20 years ago, and this one was indeed a gore-fest. I probably need to hunt this one down, if it's even available on DVD that is.

Just finished Jungle Holocaust, and I'd give it a 5 out of 10. Pretty high budget on this jungle movie, the acting was decent, the locations were cool, and the story stayed interesting enough that I didn't fast forward through it. But I have two major gripes with this movie that will keep it from ever getting more than five stars out of a possible ten rating.

Too much male anatomy for one, which was akin to a splash of ice water to the crotch...and then when we finally get to see the bare breasts, sweet little ass, and bare feet of Mi Mi Lai, well, there's too much bad male imagery still in mind to even enjoy looking at her! They should've avoided all those penis shots...it was borderline traumatizing! [Puke]

Secondly, watching live animals getting killed on screen just isn't cool no matter how you try to look at it. I'm no PETA nutjob or vegan or anything like that...I eat hamburgers, steak, ribs, probably more meat than your average American...but cruelty to animals for the sake of a movie just plain sucks.

If you want to see a nice jungle flick, watch a cheese-fest like Sheena instead. Sure, Sheena was lame and the script was uber retarded, but I'd much rather see a scantily clad and barefoot Tanya Roberts instead of a bunch of dudes.

Just finished watching a couple of back-to-back episodes of Firefly, and I've lost count how many times I've seen every episode of this series. Instead of talking about individual episodes, I'll just give the whole series a 9.9 out of a possible 10 stars...and the only thing keeping it from getting a perfect 10 is the fact that it never got the right opportunity to wrap up. Sure, Serenity was a great flick and I recommend it to anybody reading this thread, but there's still so much more that could've been done with those characters and that setting.

SUNSHINE - This Sci-fi follows the "save the earth" genre in the tridition of AMAGEDDON & CORE... This one is where the sun starts to burn-out and a ship armed with a large nuke is suppoze to restart the sun... The crew run into a boo-boo along the way and things suddenly change which alters their course into the unknown....

I rate this movie ...... 7 Outta 10

Watched "Braveheart" again...probably for the 10th time. To be honest, I only really watch it for the battle scenes....they are great! I love the first fighting scene where the Scottish (only armed with hammers & clubs) attack the knights armed with swords. Overall the movie is 7.5/10...the fighting scenes are 9.5/10 (also considering that no computers & blue screens were used).

"300" The movie bored me shitless believe it or not. Every battle scene in slow motion sped up, and then paused "Matrix" style was redundant. The entire movie relied on too much CGI and as little intelligent dialogue as possible. I guess I should have expected that coming from a movie made from a comic book though...

Reading some of the movies you guys listed though:

Hal "Braveheart" loved it/own it
Eliza "Seven Years in Tibet" excellent movie
Panic "Office Space" own it and laugh like a mongoloid every time I watch it
Flikr26 "Blood Diamond" enjoyed it but wouldn't probably sit through it a second time.

Haven't seen the others listed. I prefer dramas to action/horror films myself.

I'm a pushover for women in prison movies (WIP's) already, but this one was an exceptionally good one. This one features catfights, whippings, hosings, lesbian innuendo...pretty much all the cliche's you'd expect from the genre...but this one rose above the pack because all of the female inmates running barefoot through the whole film! [Drool]

There was absolutely no nudity in the darned thing, even though there was a prime opportunity for some gratuitous toplessness in the shower scenes. There was even a digital blur on the screen when our main heroine Andri (whom I assume was played by Gudhay Sinatra) was in a bubble bath and the suds didn't keep up with the movement of her arms! But if you're a foot guy like me the lack of shoes on the girls more than makes up for this shortcoming. Plus she winds up biting out the warden's tongue at the end of the bath scene, and the gore effect of that was pretty nice.

Story? Who needs it? It's barefoot girls in prison! But yes, the story is predictable (girls in jail eventually overthrow the jail), but has some decent action, a few chase scenes, and some gunplay. Worth owning if you're a fan of the genre. 9 out of 10

*edit: Here's the trailer to the movie if you want to check it out:

Don`t get me wrong...I though it was quite a good movie but anything around 9 has got to be a real masterpiece....a film that will stand the test of time and will still be awesome in 20 years time. Anything around 8 (in my opinion) has to be a good movie that moves me and that I would gladly watch a second time.
"Zodiac" didn`t fit those two descriptions, even though I would gladly recommend it...but I didn`t think the acting was too great, amongst other things. It´s the kind of movie that I will have forgotten about in a few days time. 7.5 is a good rating for this film.
I just checked IMDB and there the movie was rated 7.9

Believe it or not i watched a little bit of a sappy love story called "Catch and Release" and it wasn't bad especially since in many scenes Jennifer Garner was barefoot or wearing revealing shoes. I would give it an 8 out of 10 because of Jennifer's peds.

Just watched probably the greatest sci-fi movie ever (next to 2001), Blade Runner on beautiful blu-ray. Worth every penny! 10/10!

I recently landed Savannah Smiles on DVD, and watched it yesterday.

 -

I'd seen the movie on cable when I was a kid, and I'll admit that I cried at the ending...it was a happy/sad bitter-sweet ending to say the least. I figured that surely, 20+ years later, that I'd be a jaded and hate-filled enough of a bitter old man to not have it faze me again.

Boy was I wrong...once Alvie sat down beside Savannah and told her that he had to go away for a while...that is, he knew his arrest was imminent and that he'd never see her again...man, the waterworks bursted forth! I cried like a little girl with a skinned knee! [Cry]

Am I embarrassed about it? No way. If you can sit and watch this movie, and not have it get to you at least a very little bit, then you'd better breathe on a mirror and check to see if you fogged it up to make sure you're still alive.

Sure, like every movie out there it's got its flaws, but once the likeability of the characters and the sympathy for their situations sets in, these flaws shouldn't bother you in the least.

History in the making folks...I'm giving this movie a perfect 10 out of 10...and believe it or not there's no barefoot girls, no shoot-outs, no monsters, no violence, and no filthy language to be had in it...it's just a great movie that I think everybody needs to see.

I watched 28 Weeks Later the other night & would give it an 8 out of 10 for the action stuff, but there were some pretty silly plot holes and I hated the ending.

Apocalyptic, end of the world movies are my favorite theme, so I'll watch anything in this genre. I love seeing cities like London and NYC with empty sidewalks. I Am Legend (still in theatres) was great for that. Hunting deer in the middle of Times Square! Love it. [Smile]

Well, those days were better than today...bare women (and even men) were considered progressive art at the end of the 60s and early 70s.
It´s only since about the last 15 years that put a big ban on bare breasts....especially over in the prude USA (sorry, no offence). Luckily over here in Germany/Europe it`s still quite liberal and even normal to show female breasts...even boring tv-thrillers show them in almost every episode...although it is getting a bit less than in the 70s/early 80s.
There was a time here when nobody would care at all when tits were shown...I even remember a children`s comedy movie that had them in it.

6.5/10

That movie was originally slated to be slapped with an "X" rating when it was to be released. Kubrick cut some of the T & A out to get it reduced to an "R." Surprisingly enough all the wanton violence didn't factor in to the "X" at that time! [Laugh]

I had just watched it again myself a few weeks ago. I think I first saw it over 20 years ago when I was in high school. If you want to get another film from that era that was originally an "X" rated one, but cut back to an "R" try "The Midnight Cowboy."

If you like the Hannibal series, did that include Manhunter? It is original to Red Dawn. Michael Mann flick always great soundtracks and lighting. Brian Cox plays Hannibal and was excellent.

If I had to choose a movie or so..just watched the Bourne series in HD for all the European cities I'd love to see!

The number 23 had parts with amazing lighting, The Suicide girl parts

Reign over Me, I know why a lot of DPs choose NY as the backdrop.

The Boxer - DDL is right up there with Sean Penn.

Eternal Sunshine - just ex cinemaphotography

inTreatment has the kwan Rodrigo Garcia as writer/director - One set so it is all dialogue and rigorous communication. "love with a sword."

Released 1971 and staring Charlton Heston. It is the second movie adaptation of the novel "I am Legend." The first was in 1964 staring Vincent Price and the most recent one last year with Wil Smith.

Very dated 1970s styles, music, and cheese. Good fun though! Give it a 6.5 out of 10.

SHOOT EM' UP - Like I've said before, I very rarely give movies a 10. This movie's storyline is o.k. But the bullshit, extreme gun slinging action is second to none... I was laughing with excitement being entertained by such OUT-OF-IT never seen before (original) action scenes!!! I think this flick has set the Action genre bar to a new level. *applause* Haven't seen a good action flick since Die Hard 4.0.... 10/10 "BRAVO" [Thumbs Up]

You mentioning that, now sorta makes me wanna watch it outta curiosity. But I won't.... although might watch it if it were playing free on T.V or the DVD store monitors.

Should start up another thread for movies to look out for that are total crap so alot of us won't waste any time on them.... don't you think? [Wink]

P.S. Hope you didn't have a run-in with Jack Black and now your dogging his movie coz of somthin' negative he said or did to you personally [Tongue]
