I have quite a few and Patrick Bateman is one of them [Smile]

Anakin becomming Darth Vader
The Devil in Tenacious D's "PICK OF DESTINY"
Lex Luthor (Hackman)
Pizza The Hutt (Spaceballs)
Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface)
Scarface "Tony Montana" (Pacino)

plus more can't think of at the mo....

My Top 5 would be;

5th) Wild Bill Wharton of "The Green Mile"
 -

4th) Patrick Bateman
 -

3rd) John Travolta as "Castor Troy" in "FACE OFF" (Initially played by Nicolas Cage) -

2nd) Simon Phoenix in "DEMOLITION MAN"
 -

1st) ... Sitting at the No.1 spot for me is definately "Dr. HANNIBAL LECTER"

Definitely a kick ass topic:

5.
 -
In my opinion, a very underrated villain, from The Patriot, Col. William Tavington. You hate his guts from the minute he shows up on screen.

4.
 -
Mr. Greed is Good himself, Gordon Gekko from Wall Street. Probably one of the more terrifying villains if you think about it, because there really are people like him out there these days.

3.
 -
Another underrated bad guy, Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York. You can't keep your eyes off of him whenever he's on screen, that's how good the character was.

2.
 -
I never really saw him as a villain, but Scarface's Tony Montana is a true bad ass. You've never wanted to cheer for the bad guy so much before.

1.
 -
When you watch The Matrix, you're just not sure whether to love or hate Agent Smith. And that's the mark of an exceptional villain.

Probably this guy...so many nightmares as a kid. It was head to head with Mr. Bateman though.

The only reason I didn't put Jason as a villain is because I believe he truly is more of an anti-hero, especially if you watch Freddy vs. Jason. Freddy and Michael Myers are more villainous than Jason, though Jason would fuck both their shits up.

You hit the nail on the head for me.

I love that big goofy bastard. Though Freddy is high on my list as well.

I'm not a big horror movie fan, so...

Sir Anthony Hopkins is brilliant - my favorite!
 -

As is Alan Rickman. (Yeah, I know Snape isn't really a villain.)
 -

Helena Bonham Carter is HAWT! (and evil)
 -

Harry Potter fan and proud of it. [Big Grin]

Also, Captain Vidal from Pan's Labyrinth comes to mind. Pure evil:

Good topic! [Smile]

I have a lot of favorites when it comes to villains, but if I had to pick one, F. Murray Abraham's portrayal of Antonio Salieri instantly came to mind.

 -

I understand that Salieri wasn't that much of a rival to Mozart in real life, but Abraham's characterization of the man could get down-right chilling at times! But all at once I found myself feeling sorry for him too...he was a very riveting character, played by a most superb actor. [Thumbs Up]

Hey Lou, I just watched "Amadeus" last week...first time for me. Amazing masterpiece of a movie!

-Hal-

My favourite villains:

 -
(Hal 9000 from "2001 - A Space Odyssee")
 -
(Hans Gruber from "Die Hard 1")

 -
(Darth Vader, obviously)

 -
(Kevin Spacey in "Se7en")

 -
(The Alien in "Alien 1")

Not my absolute favorite, but Rutger Hauer's portrayal of the Hitcher. That was something you didn't see (and still don't) at the time.

Since Jason, Freddy and Myers were bought up in an earlier post, not a favourite but might aswell bring in another villan with many parts under his little belt... Good Guy aka Charles Lee Ray aka .... Good Ol' "CHUCKY" [Big Grin]

Hmmmm yeah between Darth Vader, Patrick Bateman and Kevin Spacey in Se7en. Ed Norton was also great in Primal Fear as the killer altar bowho plays the victim but we find out is ultimately the fucked up killer.

There have been some truly wonderful selections here but I must ask: "What? No Norman Bates?...No Snidley Whiplash?"

I have to agree with the wild bill that guy was totally freaky!

my favorite villians i have two

First Scorpius from Farscape

Second the screwed up guy in the cell. the one that pulled out those intestines ........totally gave me nightmares!

Here are a few. It was hard to pick which were my favorite, but I tried to pick some that had not been mentioned:

- The Crazy 88s (Kill Bill): Just pick one, they all were cool
 -

- Davey Jones (Pirates of the Carribbean): Dunno, I just liked him
 -

- Lopan (Big Trouble in Little China): Old guy that could kick your ass
 -

- Khan (Star Trek 2): Pretty badass for Star Trek
 -

- Original Terminator, although the liquid one from T2 was badass too
 -

... and this guy would have fucked up any of the people that have been listed thus far

 -

This thread needed to be revived, and my selections need to be amended for this man:

 -

Need I say anything else? The greatest portrayal of perhaps the greatest comic book villain ever. The Joker. No further words necessary.

Very true Mic very true.... He killed without any sign of remorse and no hesitation and he even laughs about it.... Truly the epitome of evil.

I think I will change my vote too. Heath Ledger was absolutely amazing. He put Jack to shame which is saying a lot about how phenomenal an actor Heath was. It's so sad that we had lose such talent at so young an age. But at least he will always be remembered for this incredible role.

RIP HL

Heath has done an amazing job as the joker and I would have to re-adjust my villans list too to put him up there amoungst the top...... but the best? Hmmmmmmmmm I don't know [Eek!] I would have to agree with you guys for now but maybe further down the track I'll have to do a deeper analysis of comic book to cinema villan adaptations. I'm just too lazy at the mo [Big Grin]

As putting Nicholson to shame? I think so but just in case, I'll grab the original batman dvd on my day off, watch it again (as I haven't seen it since I was a kid) then I'll give my verdict on the comparison of the two.

Posted by Salvy_Mic (Member # 13384) on :

I have to say that for the record, I absolutely love Jack Nicholson's Joker. For the type of movie that Tim Burton was making, the atmosphere, and whatnot, the way Nicholson played The Joker was pitch perfect. The original Batman movies and these new Nolan Batman movies are two completely different types of movies in almost every regard. To be quite honest, about the only things they have in common is the fact they are about Batman.

It's really all what you prefer. I myself like Batman to be gritty, dark, and haunting, just like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Which means that I have to prefer Ledger's Joker. Just keep in mind that there's a reason Nicholson's Joker is considered one of the top 50 movie villains of all time by the AFI.

I certainly didn't mean to take anything away from good ole Jack. What I meant was that Heath Ledger's role of the Joker puts Jack's to shame. Not necessarily the performance/portrayal. But I do think Heath was much better overall even though he did have a distinct advantage because of the type role he was asked to play. Just to be perfectly clear I am simply moving Jack's joker from first favorite to second favorite. In case you guys haven't noticed, I am like a HUGE Batman fan.

And to footgirl...I've been afraid of her since I read the book in the fifth grade [Wink]

i like jack's version of the joker alot and that would have definitely been my first choice.

but i have to agree i like heath's version better.

but in all honesty its two completely different takes on the joker. i personally just like heath's version better.

so i would have to say the joker is my favortie villan. jack's and heath's version.
