Ok, just for kicks. What videos games have you played that just all out SUCKED or made you really mad that you paid money to rent/buy? It can be any console, handheld or PC game. Feel free to post a few. Just want to see what everyone comes up with?

Friday the 13th (NES) - Oh my god... Can this game be beat? Can you actually last more than half an hour? I'd have all but the counsilor I was playing dead within minutes. Impossible!

 -

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) - Not to be confused with the one they did that was a lesser port of the Arcade TMNT game... this one just sucked! It had a top down view to go to places in the city or whichever map you were on and then switched to the side scrolling when you entered the area. It was just lamesauce after playing that Arcade one in the arcades. I'm glad they actually made that port for the NES and the SNES too.

 -

Pit Fighter (SNES/Genesis) - Plain and simple, should have been called Shit Fighter...

completely disagree about ninja turtles, i loved that as a kid

i took friday the 13th back to the toys r us my mom bought it from so agreed on that

i think that's the only game i ever had taken back to the store so maybe it is the worst game ever

i think the most overrated game ever is Halo

I liked Pit Fighter on the genesis.
Dynasty Warriors 5 sucks on the PS2. Run up to a group of twenty enemies and hack and slash them. Maybe one of them will hit back. Just so repetitive.

Pimp My Ride, the two achievements I unlocked in that game haunt my Gamerscore

A game called "Mousetrap" for the Atari 2600 in the very early 80s.

Those days Atari games still cost loads of money...over here in Germany they were around 100-200 DM per game (around $200). As a child my brother and I saved up for a game for months and then went to the shop and bought "Mousetrap". What a piece of shit! It was only fun for about 5 minutes, even by the low standards those days.
What the company had done was trick people by putting screenshots from the arcade version (which had much better graphics and more levels) onto the back of the packaging.

-Hal-

Here`s a screenshot [Laugh] Imagine spending $200 for this.

"Alex Kidd The Lost Stars" & "Alex Kidd In Hi-Tech World" on Sega Master System.

I was a big fan of Alex Kidd In Miracle World and couldn't wait to play the other "Alex Kidd" titles but the other 2 paled in comparison [Cry] .

[Thumbs Up]
 -

[Nut Kick]
Lost Stars - Anoying tunes and anoying "AAAAGGGHHHH" when you get hurt.
 -

Hi-Tech World - Too boring

Pat, I actually owned all three of those games.

Friday the 13th did suck. Pit fighter was so so. TMNT was terrible, but I played it because I loved the cartoon.

This was the Ninja Turtles game that I spent many quarters on at the bowling alley before it came out on the NES/SNES. This one I love. That other one... ehh...

I remember this game awesome Turtles Game. When you dropped in a coin/credit, it went "KAWA-BUNG-GAH!!!" [Big Grin] It was a definate hit around our neighbourhood.

About a year or so later, they changed it. Kept the same coin-op frame but changed the (Circut/Program/Rom) board to this [Big Grin] .... This was a pretty good game also, with slightly similar gameplay... Sorry to chuck this on this thread but had to reply [Blush]

Liked the balloon pumping challenging stage [Hop]

Anyone remember that 3-d hologram fighting game? It was at the arcade. To me, it was the worst game in the arcade.

What a great thread. LOL!

Off hand...it would be the first Silent Hill for the PS One. Suck-diddly-uks!!!

I bought it right out of the gate as I was hooked on Capcom's Resident Evil 2, and thought Silent Hill would be comparable. Wow was I wrong. The game blows and was so mad I wasted My cash on it.

Taught Me a lesson to rent first before I buy.

Right now, playing Resident Evil 5 on the PS3.

Regards,
2swift

PS.
Subzero...I do remember the quarter games of the Turtles and the Simpsons, too. They were a trend at the time of multiplayer quarter arcade games, like Guantlet, and the X-Men.

When I first bought an XBOX 360 Arcade(don't buy an Arcade btw) I bought a game with it too, Turning Point Fall of Liberty.

It had a cool premise, the Germans actually "won" the war by invading America and you were playing as a construction worker and you manage to take out the Germans almost single handedly...shitty graphics and just overall shitty game. I played it and wrapped it in about 2 hours and returned it the next day to get Call of Duty 4.

Here is another annoying game. I tried playing this over my cousin's house a number of times, but it was impossible! It's called Night Trap and it was for the Sega CD attachment. It was the game that caused a big ole fuss because it had a scene were a girl takes off her shirt and is in a bra. Yeah, a fuss over that. My how times have changed, huh?

Anyhow, in the game you have to go all over the rooms of the house and watch a group of kids who are staying in a vacation home alone for the night. One of the kids is an undercover agent that works with you. The house is outfitted with traps and during the night these vampire things that don't look like any vampires I ever saw capture the kids. It is your job to catch them before they get everyone.

For the NES, I had and ended up hating was "Dr. Chaos". A very rare game. Had to really do some hard digging just to find out what to do next. I did beat the game though. [Violent]

What a pain it was!

I actually rented that years and years ago. I might actually have it. All my games are tucked away though and I have over 120 NES games easily. I went to a few local game stores in the late 90s and bought every NES game out (I had a checklist) that was under $2 one day. I came home with so many and managed to get my hands on some of the better ones that cost more - like Super Dodge Ball (my shit, right there!).

Whilst probably not the worst I've ever played - games I played that I really disliked...

Halo 2. It broke everything that made Halo 1 great, it removed the solo and team battle element and diluted it somewhere between the 2. It removed all the pacing and replaced it with cinematic moments, broke the plot and put much more focus on the multiplayer. It set a precedent but it was just (as a fan of the original) a let down.

Metroid Prime 3. The original 2 Prime games were about one person exploring a vast world. 3 introduced characters and spread the exploration out over a few planets = no! That isn't Metroid.

Crisis Core. I didn't see the point in this game at all.

Right now I'm playing Final Fantasy 10 and trying to unlock the abilities for the strongest weapons in the game! Man it's tough! I'm also playing Tony Hawk's Underground 2. Australia and New Orleans is tough. I also have Jackass: The Video Game. Most of the stuff I have unlocked.

I know this is an old thread, but as a long-time gamer (hell, my love for games is older than my love for feet [Wink] ), I felt the need to contribute. So... *casts a Phoenix Down on topic*

Anyway, one bad game that really stands out in my mind is YuYu Hakusho: Spirit Detective on the Game Boy Advance.

YuY Hakusho is one of my favorite anime ever, but this game is an insult. It's sloppy, the music hurts my brain, it looks awful, and it plays like absolute hell. I can't believe Atari did this to my favorite anime. It deserved better than that.

Since the topic has been Phoenix Downed (nice one, Rider Aldebaran [Big Grin] ), I think I'll contribute some of the worst games I've ever played.

1) Gears of War (entire series): the storyline is pretty average and the gameplay and weapons aren't too terrible, but I can't stand looking at 504 shades of gray for three hours. Also, every character is a WWE rip-off and I hate the way you are always crouching every time you run around. You look like a retarded turtle.

2) Chrono Cross (PS1): My gawd, what a piece of tripe this was. I was so excited thinking that it's a sequel of one of the greatest RPG titles in the history of gaming... but the complete butchering of the story, the idiotic characters, and the nearly incoherent plotlines made me wish I had foreskin that I could tear off in frustration.

3) Every Nintendo Wii game ever, except for Trauma Center, Fire Emblem and Smash Bros.

Sorry but I really hate how unresponsive and gimmicky the Wiimote is. I want to sit down and play a video game, not struggle through the retarded conrol schemes and go an entire gaming session without pressing a button.

PaRappa The Rappa and CHRONO CROSS? WHAT THE WHAT?

That hurts my nerdy heart.

Posted by Diabolicus (Member # 7743) on :

Yes, Chrono Cross. It ruined the story. I like to pretend it doesn't even exist.

Diabolicus,

As I'd agree with you that the Wii doesn't overly impress me, Zelda The Twilight Princess needs to be on your list of good games for it. That game is amazingly good.

Well, as far as Wii games where you don't need the Wiimote, what about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which is one of the best fighters to date. While you CAN use a Wiimore, it's at its best with the Classic Controller or Gamecube Controller.

There's also Super Paper Mario, though that one has way too much talking in it for my tastes (even for a Paper Mario title).

Twilight Princess was merely okay, there was still too much emphasis on waving your arms about like a ninny. It's really the console itself that pisses me off. No online play for basically all games, and when there is... you have to jump through over 9000 hoops just to suffer through a terrible lag fest that made the whole thing barely worth it. The system is barely more powerful than the Gamecube. (Gamecube kicked ass, wish I still had mine).

Posted by Patrick (Member # 1169) on :

I have to disagree about Twilight Princess being "okay." Since you didn't like it for the Wii and you enjoy your Gamecube, maybe you should try it on there and see what you think about it.

Patrick

Posted by Rider Aldebaran (Member # 38525) on :

Yeah. I have Twilight Princess, but on the Gamecube.

That said, the game itself I found to be rather underwhelming when compared to past Zelda games.

Posted by Patrick (Member # 1169) on :

I don't think it is THE best, but I still think of all the Zelda games it is certainly closer to the top than the bottom.

Patrick

Posted by Explosivo57 (Member # 14342) on :

the "worst" zelda is still better than 90% of all the other games

With the exception of the CDi titles that Nintendo denies exist. I actually have the CDi and years ago was going to buy these two games on eBay just to have them. Now if you see them, they're quite pricey.
