It's important I explain what I'm saying properly: not the game you currently play the most, maybe not even the best game of it's time after a few weeks, but the best game on your first play...

I'm gonna go with GTA Vice City,

 -

but Need For Speed Underground is a close second.

Nice one!
I'm torn between the Final Fantasy series & SOCOM Navy Seals.

I'm going to go with games that I couldn't put down and those are:

World of Warcraft

Zelda (Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess)

GTA (3 and San Andreas)

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

...and of course, Sewer Sharks for the Sega CD

 -

(Yes, I'm joking about Sewer Shark)

What about Battlefront? I heard it was pretty hot. Yeah I can't shell out for a PS3 just yet. [Cry]

Battlefront was good, but to me it doesn't quite have that story that KotR had. The story in KotR should be a movie, plain and simple. It's that good.

And while I'm at it, another franchise that I couldn't put down that I somehow managed to forget is Resident Evil.

I played both for the first time in the God of War Collection for the PS3, believe it or not. I really liked these too.

Anyone really like the Uncharted series? Those are amazing too.

My character's name in the second KotR was a tall skinny blonde that I named Paris Hilton. Then my XBox died and I never got to finish it.

Right now, I am really enjoying Pokemon Heart Gold.

...But the best game that I have ever played so far is Okami for the PS2 (and there's a Wii port, too). It's a beautiful, unique game with several inspirations from Zelda, but has it's own twists. Like being able to attack and manipulate the environment with a "Celestial Paintbrush".

I wish it sold better, but it seemed that people were more interested in more "mature" PS2 titles. A shame, too, because they missed out on a true gem.

I saw that game the other day and was telling my friend about it. I never played it, but thought the premise was neat with the painting. I just think Nintendo shoots itself in the foot WAY too much, just like Apple computers. Sure they make great stuff and make great stuff for their stuff, but no one else does and it turns people off that they're so strict on third party items.

*high-fives the fellow PokeNerd*

Oh yes, it was. The only real problem I had with the game was that it was too easy; I never died once, because you can buy so many recovery bones, and use the pouches to revive yourself should you run out of health (which never happened with me, because, as I said, I bought dozens of bones).

Well, Nintendo's philosophy seems to be "If it's not broke, don't fix it." So, if the formula works, they'll keep milking it, as seen with Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem. But they have been a bit easer on third parties: For instance, Team Nnja is developing Metroid: Other M, and it looks fantastic.

The problem is that many third partes are unwilling to develop on the Wii because of the userbase and/or limited hardware compared to the PS3 and X360.

Oh right. I don't even know how that happened.

I know that Nintendo made a deal to let Capcom port Viewtiful Joe to the PS2 to get Resident Evil 4 exclusive to the Gamecube. I don't know if there was a fall out, or Capcom was just money-hungry (because let's face it: the GCN wasn't exactly a success last gen) or catering to the fans.

#1.Tomb Raider(I played and finished this game WITHOUT THE BOOK but I did have a weapons code)...I would literally wake up out of my sleep and know how 2 solve the puzzles that were giving me problems the night before...It wasn't that I was dreaming about the game...I was just so blown away that I would actually think about while sleeping? I was so exhausted mentally that it took me years to play an RPG again!

#2 Is Grand Turismo 2...I'm a car nut so I WON'T EVEN TOUCH ANOTHER DRIVING GAME...I'm still waiting for the newest 1 to come out...I LOVE THE COCKPIT VIEW THAT'S ON PROLOGUE...

#3 Assassins Creed...I just loved everything about this game...I'm just getting around to playing the newest edition...It's cool but its not as jaw dropping to me now because its hard to top the 1st edition...

I'm a PLAYSTATION guy since PS1 and I only play Sony systems...I did have a dreamcast when it was out though...But I really got it for my son...lol
I picked these games because these were the ones that I couldn't put down...You know, playing them all night until the sun came up!

Aw man I have become accustomed to not using the book hahaha

(All my games when I was a kid were copies...and kind of...most of them now...lol so didn't come with a game guide)

I loved Tomb Raider (1,2,3), but after that, when it got less action-y and more puzzle-solving-y, I kind of lost interest...it was the perfect balance in the first 3...with that good ole farting butler you lock in the freezer an stuff [Tongue]

Video game perfection for me came in the 8-bit style.

Megaman 2

Bionic Commando

Battletoads

I still play all three of these games regularly. I have two working NES's that I installed new cartridge readers in so they work perfectly. We have almost every game system in our house. I live with 2 other gamers.

Another PS1 game that blew me away was the Scandinavian game "Kula World". Pretty hard to find on Ebay nowadays...usually costs around $100 or more.

Megaman 2 and BC I can beat silly. Battle toads I have to play emulated and save, the game has to be one of the hardest of all times. I have thrown so many systems/controllers over that game.

Nes through to the Game Cube. I have no use for the Wii and will buy it once it's replaced and I can buy it at the flea market for the $15.99 it's worth. The game cube does not do HD or 5.1... seriously?

PS1, PS2 and PSP. We have hundreds of PS1 games. I learned how to play burned games without a mod chip by tricking the laser. So I started burning games when I bought it back in god knows when. No PS3 yet, been waiting for it to get closer to $200 in Canada.

We have three Xbox 360's kicking around, 40 some games. My main one with my gamer tag isn't modded and in the living room, then there are modded ones in the bedrooms.

Best of all, to me at least, is my computer. Intel Core 2 duo E7400 2.8GHz over clocked to 3.8GHz, 4 Gigs 1066 DDR2, ATI Radeon 4890, ASUS P5Q SE 5.1 sound, logitech 5.1 speakers. I like to play Crysis, it looks purdy.

What I'm looking for are, and if there's actually anyone still reading this nerdy finger vomit, is a Turbografx 16 with Keith's Courage and Bonk. An Atari with *M*A*S*H* and ET(Specifically to see if I can figure that shit out now. Lastly, a Colecovision with the Smurfs and Zaxxon.

Here's a throwback if you don't remember the Colecovision:

Sounds great!

I have most of those consoles as well. I don`t have anything later than PS2 or Game Cube, apart from a Nintendo DS. Atari consoles are really easy to find over here in Germany, even on trashy flea markets....I just sold two old ones with about 35 games. If you`re looking for ET you`ll have to dig in the desert [Laugh] ...Atari buried a few hundred thousand copies of the game there after it flopped miserably.
I always wanted a Colecovision as a kid, but I got a Commodore 64 instead...which was probably a better choice [Wink]
The PC Engine (Turbografx 16) wasn`t too popular over here in Europe....but I think I will get one some day via Ebay. The consoles are pretty cheap but the games are incredibly expensive.

Hal,
I have all my stuff in a storage unit. When I repainted and refurnished this room, I packed up most of that stuff because I just wasn't playing it much. I won't get rid of them, just was a little much to have connected to a single TV. LOL

Oh and I forgot to mention, I flew back to Nova Scotia a few years back to realize that my parents donated our old Commodore 64 and the boxes of programs and games. We still have the C64 monitor though and it still works like the day we bought her.

Load "*" ,8,1

[Wink]

Posted by Hal (Member # 3484) on :

Shame about your C64....but if you still have the old monitor that is pretty cool, too. You can hook up most old-school consoles to it (Genesis, Master System, SNES, etc.) and usually get a better/crisper picture than on most modern flatscreen TVs. Even a VCR or DVD runs perfectly with an old Commodore monitor.
I own two Commodore monitors and have most of my stuff attached to them.

Hey den2, you got a 360?

Posted by Flip flop fan (Member # 9565) on :

Fallout 3? Really? I wanted to snap the disc in half the first time I played it. Hated how the game started linear and the original ending was seriously the stupidest ending in the history of games. Hey lets write that you fucking die when we know the story line isn't over and that we're going to put out expansions. What the fuck was that dev team smoking and where can I get some? My room mate spoiled the ending for me and I'm glad he did, I stopped playing the game till they put out the expansion that fixed the ending.

Also, the games auto save system can set you back if you're not careful, like if you accidentally shoot someone in Rivet city and then walk through a door and it saves. Or when you magically get stuck in someone's room. You go in someone's room, they leave an lock the door and never come back. Bam stuck forever, and the best part? It fucking auto saved your ass in there. I've seriously lost like 20 hours of game play through these bugs.

Basically they took Oblivion and slapped the fallout story line/mobs over it, forgot to polish it at all and put it out...

...and that's what grids my gears, Tom.

I'm dubious about those who are referencing modern games - can anyone have the perspective to see that another game felt better to play all those years ago than one you first played last weekend?

I think the same about music really - for me, I need the perspective to give a reasoned judgement rather than every week have a new "best game/song ever".

I've been enjoying COD MW2 recently, but still think I enjoyed games such as San Andreas more fully...

Red Dead Redemption is highly fucking addictive...I'm on call now for work so this gives me the perfect excuse to just chill at home and play this nonstop [Smile]

The storyline is great, LOTS to do...some people call it the "GTA of the west" but I know with GTA I was bored in about 10 minutes...GTA encouraged you to kill and destroy shit which is fine but this is more mission based and trying to gain fame and honor by doing lets say more constructive things, such as skinning pelts off coyotes you shoot, or shooting down birds to get the sharpshooter challenge.

What I'm trying to say is I haven't been this addicted on a game that ISN'T Call of Duty [Big Grin]

There are loads of games that came out over the years, from past to present, that were capable of capturing your total attention and sucking you in. I do think that some of the more modern era games, and I'm going to say modern area as Dreamcast/PS1 to presnt, gave users more of an ability to feel immersed into a game than many of the older side/top scrolling games did. But Zelda games have always managed to do this for me, even back to the first one.
