Been a cast and on crutches now for 3 weeks and another 3 to go due to a partial muscle and partial tendon tear. Any experiences?

Not myself personally, but I've got to poke fun at several friends in the past who hobbled around on crutches with gimpy legs after sporting accidents.

yeah, about 3 years ago i broke my tibia plateau and was on crutches for 12 weeks plus 16 weeks of PT. this is the worst time of the year for in one sense, but the best in another. with the nice weather at least you can wear shorts and dont have to worry about pants. hell, i even got to wear shorts to my office job. the bad side is that, depending where you live, getting around is ALOT more work and its alot hotter. stupid me agreed to visit the Bronx Zoo with my wife and kids and the day was in the 90's. i had been on them for probably 6 wks already so i was a pro at using them and had some stamina, but by the end of the day i was done. between pure exhaustion and the extreme chaffing under my arms, i couldnt have been happier when the day was over.

when i finally was given the ok to walk with only one crutch and put pressure on the injured leg, i also actually had to get comfortable walking ago. as odd as it sounds, i couldnt figure out how to to it right. that only lasted a day or so though. you might not have that problem since you are only looking at 3 months. good luck. [Smile]

I spent 3 weeks on crutches and another 2 weeks with a cane after boogering up my left ankle and knee. I was draping a tarp over a load of pipe when a gust of wind snatched me and the tarp off of the truck and dropped us about eight feet to a frozen parking lot.

Been on crutches a couple of times. Fractured my left foot in 2007 and used crutches for a little over a month. The same foot was fractured in 1993, just in a different spot and spent about a month using crutches. Going upand down steps sucks.

I should have been on crutches when I strained my hamstring badly about 4 years ago. I worked on it for almost 2 days(14 hr days constantly walking and carrying about 100lbs of gear over rough terrain) then finally went to the doc. Didn't give me crutches just pain relaxers and anti inflammatory's. I hobbled around on one leg and the guys I worked with started calling me "Fox"(as in Terry Fox).

Broke my ankle some years back and had to crutch around for six weeks; any weight on it would necessitate surgery so I was a very careful boy. I took to the crutches pretty naturally and could navigate with some grace (relatively).

I never could negotiate stairs well, however and developed a mild fear of them which I still have. My solution: just put the crutches down and hike yourself up & down the stairs on your ass.

Hmmmm that's odd, I thought you'd jump at the first post with mock smarty remarks or pics...lol. I guess that's a sign you're getting old......kidding [Tongue]

I'm still quite new to Australia and only my family back in NZ know and I know my old workmates would never stop at a chance to drive me into the ground with mockery...lol. I miss home [Smile] ..

Just looking at my hands now, they seem fine. Haven't lobbed around too much but my lefty is a lil' more callousy. I voluntarily have missed matched crutches for easier living. One elbow crutch (plastic grip)for standing up from a seated position and showering, and one full armpit crutch (spongy rubber grip)to lean on when standing.

Thanks nusuth, your story has made me feel better as I thought I had it bad. And 12 weeks??? [Eek!] that's long....

I get worried about sweating under the cast as I'm worried about getting itchy under there unable to reach the itch and also not able to wash it. It's also a little strange always showering with your leg taped & wrapped in a plastic bag Grrrrr....

I only do things that are necessary keeping crutch work to a minimum, and hold my pee until I reeeeealy need to go...lol. [Big Grin]

OUCH!! sounds like it hurt. During my injury it can get regretable looking back on the accident and how a mionor (or a few minor) precautions could've avoided this injury and long recovery period. Oh well it's a lesson learnt......the hard way I guess [Smile]

Yeah, stairs do suck. Especially if you've made it to the top of quite a few and have realized you've left somthing at the bottom [Thud] ... I haven't had that problem yet (touch wood) and always double, triple and quadrouple check before I attack any flight of stairs....

Whoa! tough guy. Strained hamstring and still pulling off 14hr shifts??? That's tough [Hump] ... Hey Reminds me of a line from the movie Predator, "I ain't got time to bleed". [Cool]

I might try the stairs on my ass on my next encounter..... Doesn't sound comfortable but as a fan of MYTHBUSTERS, I'll put it to the physical test

Yeah. Don't wanna do that again. It happened in Philadelphia and I had to drive for two days to Orlando to make the delivery and go home. Shifting a 10 speed transmission up and down, then hobbling around to untarp the load in Orlando and roll and stow the tarps then drive home. But, you do what ya gotta do to put food on the table.

Like we said in the business "Quit yer bitchin'. Truckin' aint fer sissy's."
[Cheers]

No insurance? I can relate. Luckily I've been in good health these past few years. I hope things get better for you soon, bro.

After 2 years and eight months of being unemployed, spending all of my savings, cashing in my 401k, selling anything and everything I could, I was finally blessed and got a job today. -

I've been submitting an average of 9 applications per week since Dec. of 2007, and I've been called for only four interviews. I got my state Security license last Sept.(11 months ago) and I just got hired today. I start working on Monday. So, I'm gonna get hammered tonight to celebrate!! -

Here's to better luck for everybody at Wu's... [Cheers]
