Wanted to appeal to some of the folks in the UK to see what your opinion is of the Royal Family.

From an outsider looking in, I simply don't see the value. From what I understand, the TOTAL cost to support the Royal Family edges $200M E per year.

I understand the tradition behind them, but for the taxpayers to shell out that much money for tradition seems ludicrous... especially when you consider they have no governing power.

When you consider that the Queen is not exactly poverty stricken (net worth of $450M E), and monarchy still receives such high salaries... just makes me shake my head. To me it's likely providing personal financial assistance to Bill Gates.

Don't mean to offend anyone or insult them, I just don't understand it.
