My man Scott Gomez would be making some history then, first Latino captain in hockey. I'd like to see it. Absolutely agree about Crosby for the Canadian team though, he's earned it.

It's hard to say. I think Crosby deserves to be captian but I don't think he will be for the reasons Danielle mentioned. Age and inexperience. I say fuck that. If Canada had have won the gold at the last Olympics, I would say yes, go with a guy like Iginla or Lecalvier or Pronger because they would have won back to back golds and be competeing in an enviroment they'be be both familiar with and successful in. However, they finished out of the medals at the last Olympics and in order to reclaim the golden glory of the 2002 team it's time for a change. That change should be putting the leadership and the flag on the shoulders of Sid "the Man" Crosby who doesn't have any bad memories from the last Olympics and instead would come into the games following Captianing his Penguins to the Stanley Cup.
The guy's a success at every level he's played and dispite the fact he's been held to almost unfair and ridiculously high expectations his entire career, the guy just keeps on meeting those expectations and exceeding them, so I have no reason to believe he wouldn't do it again if given the Olympic oppertunity. He won a silver and a gold in the world juniors and became the youngest player to ever lead the whole tournament in scoring at the one world championship he played in dispite the fact Canada didn't medal. He led his Penguins to back to back cup finals, including last years Stanley Cup Victory and was the highest scoring Canadian in the league last season and lead the league in scoring two seasons prior. The guy is a winner, and if Canada was smart they'd put the C on Sid and watch him lead by example!
As for the States, Gomez is probably going to get the C and he probably deserves it, but I'd be tempted to put it on Billy Guerin for his leadership alone. He really helped Crosby come into his own last season and his leadership skills were probably a big factor in the diffence between the 08 Penguins who lost the Cup final to Detroit to the Squad who won it in 09. I'd go with Guerin if I was running that team, put him on the roster and make him the captian and then surround him with as much young talent as possible in hopes they soak up some of his attitude, work ethic and experience.

With all the Olympic hockey action going on why I am the one to bring this thread back from the dead?
Did anyone catch Team Canada destroy Russia? Sorry guys, since my man friend is Canadian, I am partial to Team Canada...lol I love watching Crosby dominate the game at such a young age.

I try to watch every game, not just the canadian ones. No offense to the American fans on here but your fucked when we meet up in the final. We needed that loss as a team to come together, the Ruskies thought they had this game in the bag after watching our loss to the Yanks.
IFFFFFF for some reason say the Slovaks or the Swedes put's us out on Friday I hope its the Slovaks that put us out and then take gold, their hockey program has come so far in the last 10 years this would be a great reward for them!

i dont watch hockey, but i didnt see it because nbc decided to put it on msnbc, and i dont watch that channel. that IMO is a big mistake on nbc's part. if they put it on nbc, they would have made 4X the ratings it got. but im glad the us won. we have the best hockey players.

You've gotta being shitting us keyfeet. The only reason why the US won the first meeting between Canada and them is because the US wanted it more.
It's gonna be US vs Canada in the gold final, don't know if you got a chance to see the Canada vs Russia game but Canada put on a clinic as to why IT'S OUR GAME

Canada's got the much better players, but the US play a hard charging, physical style that matches up well with Canada, a similar style that Switzerland nearly beat them with actually. Styles make fights. I don't think we have a single guy on our team that plays on an NHL top line on a good team, except for maybe Patrick Kane. Not only that, but we're much younger. In 4 years, we'll be heavy favorites along with Canada.

The two most deserving of teams are in the final. I don't expect this to be a blowout like the Russian game by any means...no true hockey fan enjoys blow out hockey games.
No matter how it ends up its going to be a great end to end fast paced game, which is what hockey is all about. Can't wait! Got my beer stocked up and the pizza number on speed dial

This is gonna be a fuckin' hockey game folks. Canada should be fine but that Ryan Miller is some good. Hasek fucked us one other year and Miller's poised to do it again if he stands on his head like he did in the round robin game. Canada gotta just own the game. The US beat us in the Under 17 and the World Juniors this year, then they beat us in the round robin game at the Olympics in our own backyard. We can't fucking have that. Canada's gotta step up, realize this is our game and we need this win in order to set the record straight and assume our rightful position on top of the world when it comes to hockey. I think the Canadians are just going to pour it on early and be firing on all cylinders until something goes by Miller. At least I hope. I'm predicted a 5-3 Canada victory. As long as Luongo is solid we should be alright. Hopefully Crosby and Thornton can step up and Iginla and Nash can keep going the way they have been and we can put the USA away. No matter what, it's going to be a heck of a hockey game, but I'm sick of giving the USA credit and props on a well played victory and giving Canada credit for a strong effort in a tough loss like the round robin game and the world junior final. Enough of that shit. Nothing less than victory will do in this game. Go Canada Go!!!
