Got a question for you guys. I'm considering starting a website. I was wondering if the setting of the photographs (outdoors vs. indoors) matters as much as the quality of the model and image (high resolution, attention to lighting, etc.). Does this make sense? It'll obviously be significantly easier to find a model willing to pose outdoors in a public setting than indoors at her place or mine, and I don't even want the liability of working with a gorgeous stranger in a place that makes her even a little uncomfortable. Your thoughts?

With Thanks,
-BtA

I tend to prefer indoor, private settings myself. Too many other people in the pic is somewhat distracting.

I love outdoor photos. Like at a park or some place pretty. The lighting is great when it's natural sunlight. [Smile] I think an equal amount of indoor and outdoor will satisfy everybody.

Just because I am artsy I like variation. I do both indoor and outdoor. I LOVE doing outdoor more because you don't have to worry about setting up lighting and such. However, you have other drawbacks such as bad weather, dumb asses in public, or even shy models. Of course, Mindee said it best one day when I told her to strike a pose. I asked her when this older couple walked past us to go ahead and stick her feet out at me and spread her toes as wide as she can. She said, "I'll just do it now. I'll never see these people again." in the correct lighting, natural sunlight will provide the best possible illumination for pictures. however you still have to get it just right because too much sunlight can mess it up, but be rest assured that sunlight can get you better lighting than any indoor setting.

unfortunately, the consistency of available sunlight is the only problem. your trade-off of indoor vs outdoor should be based on consistency of available sunlight in the outdoor location you are considering.

however, i want to stress that location & lighting are not the key elements to the best feet pictures. it will be the woman, theme, and her feet that rank leagues higher when the picture is measured for it's true masterbation value in the end.

no amount of proper location, lighting, or photo quality can make up for a lack of the last 3 characteristics I mentioned: woman, theme, & her feet.

so the answer to your question is simple. yes the setting matters, but not as much as some other variables. best to get all the variables right in order to avoid lipstick on a pig, so to speak.

I agree to what has been said above.
Personally I only work outdoors, and apart from bad weather and a few weird comments in public I´ve only had good experiences. One advantage is the huge variety of background settings that you get outdoors. You can basically work anywhere...in the city, park, forest, harbour, beach, etc.
If you`re not planning on taking pics of dirty soles make sure to bring something along to clean the model`s soles ... they tend to get dirty when taking pics outdoors.

Good luck with the website!

Fantastic replies, you guys. Very insightful. I'll be starting outdoors, with more variety if / when the site grows. I'm aiming for a May launch and already have a potential model lined up.

Thanks for the replies.

I think content is most important. The rest doesn't really matter if you know how to use it.

Quality of picture, color correction and sharpness is key. I would say get the best Digital SLR you can get. Unless you already have a nice one. <2 centz>

BTW, Depending on the Processor, VISA Processing is 750.00 per year to start up and 500 bucks a year after that, just to carry the name. I am not sure if you were aware of that or not.

Thanks for the advice, BfO. I'll be shooting with my Nikon D300 and an SB-900 Speedlight if necessary. I'm considering using a macro lens too, but I haven't completely sold myself on the idea, yet. As far as sales go, I'm considering http://www.e-junkie.com/. Their price seems reasonable, and I've purchased digital goods from other sellers there without a problem before.

I have two models lined up for March. This thing's taking off.

Another +1 for indoor here. It seems more sensual and personal.

Both settings have pro and con, but the story and mood should determine where to shoot. Though I shoot Olympus but Nikon is a great camera system too. A standard zoom and tele-zoom lens and you'll have a great kit to get you going. Macro lenses can be fun but a standard zoom with good close focusing ability (of the aforementioned tele-zoom) should get you close enough with needing a macro lens. Best of fortunes to you.
