The quality of the foot websites around today is just amazing compared with what it used to be. We have remarkably classy and beautiful models volunteering for these sites, who are on par with -- or better than -- the ones doing more traditional kinds of erotic work. I think it's safe to say that foot fetishists no longer need to feel like second-class citizens in the porn world.
It looks like the wider porn industry has noticed, too. It seems to be quite common now for aspiring porn starlets to do some amount of foot fetish material, and you are beginning to see obvious nods to the fetish in porn that is thoroughly mainstream in nature. I joined First Time Videos for a stint and found that every model's set includes a few feet pics, and a good number have entire foot fetish segments (although most of it is pretty mediocre; the photographer is obviously indifferent to feet). I get the impression that FTV is one of the premier, if not the premier, stepping stone to a career in porn these days, so it's about as mainstream as you can get. Footwear in porn also seems to be trending in our direction. I'm not that old to remember a whole lot, but if I'm not mistaken, porn in the old days used to almost always have the girls wearing heels and hosiery at all times. It was virtually a requirement of the genre. Now, more often than not, the girls are barefoot. It's hard to say for certain whether this reflects increasing acceptance of foot fetish, the fickleness of fashion, or that razor-thin margins have forced the studios to skimp on wardrobe budgets. But regardless of the reason, there seems to be an increasing acceptance that plenty of porno fans want to see feet.
Slowly but surely, as the web has been a boon to the porn industry, and the low cost of setting up a website has given rise to innumerable porn sites catering to every imaginable fetish, the workings of the free market have inexorably worked to the benefit of foot fetish. There was no deliberate effort to change people's minds about it. Rather, the freedom afforded by the web to explore your private interests in a relatively anonymous way allowed people to seek out the kind of erotic imagery that, deep down, they always wanted to see, and by voting with their dollars, brought about the change through the invisible hand of the market. With enough people representing enough money demanding foot fetish material, it was only a matter of time before the market grew so big that it couldn't possibly remain in the shadows. With the adult industry embracing foot fetish, and porn itself gaining in cultural significance, foot fetish is sure to continue to become more acceptable to the culture at large. The way things are going, the time may not be long before we foot fans can enjoy the object of our admiration openly and without embarrassment.

I think what has also helped is that many celebrities have openly said they like feet. My wife, who is Mexican, has shown me many famous Mexicans who have admitted to liking feet.

Why would more celebrities be admitting to it now than in the past? Besides, people apply different standards to celebrities than to regular folks. When people found out Freddy Mercury was gay, it didn't make it suddenly no big deal to come out. Rock stars being on heroin didn't make it cool to shoot up.
